Video Content Is Queen: Why Video Is Just So Important

As you guys know Instagram Live IS my jam- if you can’t tell, well- I JUST love it. I mean there was one time where it kicked me off because I was on for too long! Imagine that. Me being intense. What a hoot.

I feel like there’s something so addicting about connecting with you guys via screen ( now I heard you can actually FaceTime via IG too! ). I dunno, it feels one on one-ish but not? Kind of like we’re all in on the secret together. Snapchat & Insta Stories are just as exciting because it’s so much BTS. The theme this year has kind of been documenting over creating, yah?

Another theme that falls RIGHT in line with that? VIDEO.

I know, shocking.

Let’s examine that closer though. Like let’s pull out our magnifying glasses, shall we? For bloggers & business owners out there…WHY VIDEO?

“BECAUSE UH NO? I can’t possibly add anything else to my jam-packed content schedule- I mean between editing, emailing, writing, posting, linking- how the hell can I squeeze video in?”

I GET IT.

But the Internet isn’t going to hold your hand & it’s essential to DOCUMENT. Not just create but document. BOTH ARE JUST VERY IMPORTANT ACTUALLY. Do both.

In any case, video is going to be the main theme for 2018.

…Well, that AND voice…but that’s a whole different post.

Anyway! Evolve & get on board…or don’t.

( But do you really want to be the only one wearing acrylic French tips when everyone else has evolved their nail situation? Evolve or don’t- but when you don’t evolve it dates you. Which is why it’s time to hop on the video train NOW! ).

But let’s get all stat-sy up in here ( BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE WE LOVE GETTING STAT-SY ) with a few of the highlights:

75 million people in the US watch videos online everyday

Embedded videos on websites can increase traffic up to 55%

SIMPLY mentioning the word “video” in the subject line of an email can increase open rates by 13%

Nearly 40% of all video is watched on mobile

…::crickets::…

Yes, those are the cold hard facts. If that doesn’t convince you to get on video- I don’t know what will! Do it today!! I tell you this because everyone should be in on it, ya know?

Oh, & we should talk a bit about distribution: you can have the best damn video in the world but if no one sees it…you’re kind of screwed. YOU HAVE TO ALSO BE A FULL-TIME MARKETER. Distributing your content is just as important as documenting & creating it. ( If you’re looking for a FABULOUS BOOK on this concept read Growth Hacking by Ryan Holiday ).

Quick TSC tip: make sure your logo is always somewhere in the video so it’s BRANDED to you. I like to add my logo or brand in the beginning & end of the video.

You should know I love this diva light with stand ( you can use it with your phone so no excuses! ) & this is the camera we like to use to record. We always prefer natural light & like to keep the backgrounds minimal. If you have a phone & no camera, use this diva light around your phone ( plus it’s $14 bucks! ). Happy filming.

Speaking of video!! Make sure you’re subscribed to TSC YouTube Channel– it’s going DOWN over there. & it’s going to continue to be updated weekly. This week: there’s a HOW TO: facial massage video & SKINNY GG CRACKER FRENCH TOAST. Also a HUGE GIVEAWAY is coming soon to the channel too- we were prepping it today. It’s like the biggest one yet. So make sure you’re subscribed, k?

Oh, & a note in advance on the whole documenting over creating thing: be yourself 100%.

The more you can use video to be yourself, the better. This is a day and age where everyone wants to see YOU- YES YOU, in your element. The big point here: you do you, boo. Get creative with the video content- stand out. Let your freak flag FLY HIGH.

I mean I never guessed I’d be popping raw garlic cloves in my mouth, showing off my husband’s new Thermos lunchbox cooler while petting a chihuahua with an acupressure pillow…BUT here we are. Life is weird.

What a time to be alive.

  1. Hey Lauryn – YES … definitely enjoyed this post! I just started my blog and would love more on your digital space research findings. Happy Friday,

  2. I guess the stats posted here would mean I am the minority but, I’ve always really really disliked video posts. Most often I just skip right past them and don’t even bother watching. Generally i’m reading a blog when i’m at work and taking a little break, or when i’m commuting somewhere (i.e. on the subway), in both of those situations I can’t just start playing a video.

All in all I just find them a super inconvenient form of delivering a message, so much so that when a post is in video, I don’t end up watching it, even if it’s a topic i’m super interested in.

  3. I LOVE this post! You inspired me to get on video via snap :). I will be posting my first YouTube video ever (EEKK) by the end of the year on a topic I really care about and is essential to my platform. I invested in the selfie light, BEST THING. I went to a wedding this weekend and sold everyone on it.

  4. I have recently fallen in love with your blog and podcasts. And you and Michael are so funny and remind me a lot of me and my bf. Love your posts and how real you are. It is so hard to find real people in this world of social media.

  5. Would love to know more about your digital research & video content! Considering starting a youtube channel and would like to hear your input on that versus a blog. You’re my fav blogger out there & I highly respect your research into your blog topics.

  6. I love your this post! you have such a world class knowledge. Before this i was afraid of making videos but i am hundred percent convinced that without video the content is nothing.
Thanks for sharing such a great piece of content.

  7. I can understand your efforts according to this article. i love reading your blog it is really amazing thanks for info. Love You and here are my sites you can visit and share your opinion as well thanks

  8. Hello Lauryn, your provided post truly great! I have enjoyed your post. As my opinion, video content is very important and helpful for the audiences. We can understand easily anything from video. What do you think? Are you agree with me?

    1. Promotional videos can foster trust as well. Some consumers are still skeptical about buying products and services on the internet because they fear fraud and cheating. But effective marketing videos present your products in a conversational form.

  9. I like that you mentioned that you can have the best video in the world, but without distribution, you will not get your message across. I like how you focused on a bit of marketing since a content creator will definitely need it. We want to do a video production business hands-on, but we do not know where to start, I think we will need a content creator nearby to help us out on this.
