All The Rage on Coconut Oil

Lauryn Evarts, fitness blogger, health blogger, diet blogger, and fashion blogger talks coconut oil benefits.

Remember circa 1990 when everyone thought fats were the devil? Remember endless promises of ‘fat free’ this & ‘zero fat’ that? “They” ( who’s “they”, anyway? ) deemed coconut oil & avocados ( << WTF! ) unhealthy.

Ya well, what an epic FAIL, 1990.

Thank God for 2013! Because coconut oil is so hot right now.

Curious on its benefits & uses?

Thought so. Check it:

Aheeeemmmmmmm.

Coconut oil benefits: it helps our bodies gain a resistance to both viruses & bacterias that cause illness. The oil also helps fight off gross yeast, sickie fungus, & aids in managing blood sugar control. It can boost thyroid function to increase the metabolism & energy. This sexy oil also helps with digestion & reduces cholesterol.

Not enough?

Coconut fats have magical, mystical fats called medium chain triglycerides ( I feel SO profesh using words like that! ). Research shows that breaking down these bad boys in the liver can lead to efficient burning energy. One study followed a babe that ingested two tablespoons of coconut oil daily for twelve weeks. Check this out: not only did she not gain weight, she actually lowered her belly fat ( << a super difficult area to lose weight ).

Cray, cray.

Not only can you just cook with the oil, you can use it superficially.

Yay!

+ DIY body scrub: make your own body wash/scrub or massage your man with the oil. Enjoy ; )!

+ Hair: it penetrates the hair better than other oils while moisturizing & promoting healthy locks. Use it for fly-always too!

+ Makeup: highlight those cheekbones! The oil has the same effect as a store-bought cheek bone highlighter.

+ Moisturizer: wanna smell like a Hawaiian godess AND look like one? Try some on your face & bod.

+ Remove makeup: remember when we talked about grapeseed oil? Well, this trick also works with coconut oil!

+ Shaving: I love shaving my legs, pits, whatever with coconut oil. It eliminates any chemicals and moisturizers while I’m shaving.

  1. I love Coconut Oil! I use it on my hair twice a week to condition it.

The one thing I have learned is that is can leave grease stains on bedding and clothing, so be aware, if you are going to sleep with it in your hair make sure its on a pillowcase that doesn’t matter or that can be bleached.

I cant wait to try it instead of shaving cream!

    Happy Oiling!

  2. Ah, I love coconut oil! There’s seriously nothing it isn’t great for. It also tastes great mixed into brown rice or quinoa!

  3. Obsessed with coconut oil! I slathered my hair in it last night and slept with it and I use it on my face and body. I have a separate jar for the kitchen and also cook with it. Probably my number one beauty product EVER because you can use it for so many different things…it also feels great on the lips, especially if your lips get too much sun! XO

  4. Coconut oil is a must have in my kitchen (and bathroom) nowadays. Didn’t know it can be used when shaving though, must try! Do we really need any other products than coconut oil? 😀

  5. the coconut oil I buy is normally hard in the jar. is there a way to make it softer or something to be able to use it on your body and hair?

  6. Coconut oil is the best! I love it for cooking and on my super dry legs. It is comedogenic though – which means it can be very pore clogging for some people, so I’d be careful with it. I occasionally for removing makeup though, because it works so well – but I always feel like i’m walking on the wild side. 🙂

  7. Coconut Oil increases your metabolism and escalates energy levels, which help decrease your unwanted fat while increasing muscle. It helps with weight loss in that it’s converted to energy not stored in the body as fat.

  8. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care so many people are using coconut oil to improve the health and appearance of their hair.

  9. I always the natural remedies and a lot of thanks for this amazing remedies as I really liked it. This is also because I love coconut oil.

  10. There is a study about coconut oil, in which coconut oil, mineral oil and sunflower oil were taken for the experiment and unsurprisingly coconut oil performs well in all the tests, coconut oil helps to hold the protein of the hair

  11. Such a fun article and you’re right – coconut oil does have a lot of uses! Of course, it is important to not go overboard with coconut oil in your cooking though. It does contain saturated fat so you should limit how much you use each day.
