This is a post I’ve been meaning to write for a long, LONG time.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR PERFUME LAST LONGER.
Let’s face it: there’s NOTHING worse than spraying a few spritzes of your favorite perfume & then ten minutes later feeling like the scent has disappeared.
This is especially dreadful for me because…I just hate deodorant.
So I really need my fragrance to last, you know? We have to be efficient in my case. Like the fragrance needs to come through BIG TIME. It needs to really fulfill its role.
Here are my ride or die tips for making my perfume last longer:
1.) Perfume storage:
So to really make your perfume last longer, avoid storing them in damp, warm places ( I put mine on my vanity by my closet, not in my bathroom! ). Also never put your perfume in front of a window- they fade! To give them a little pretty detail, display them on a mirrored platform or vintage cake stand.
2.) Biggest tip ( as always ) is OILS:
Apply some grape seed or coconut oil to your body before you put on a fragrance. The oil makes the scent stay longer on your skin. Plus you’ll be moisturized & look fresh! Oil kind of locks in the scent.
3.) Apply oil RIGHT after the shower:
After you dry off, rub your oil all over your body ( I do this anyway always ), & then spray your perfume RIGHT after. Again the moisture will keep the perfume locked in. Plus it won’t get on your clothing or jewelry.
4.) Hair brush diaries:
This one is my main trick just because it’s fun. I have two Wet Brushes: one for day and one for night. The day one has a blood orange scent, the night time one has my latest scent, SJP on it. Instead of spraying perfume directly on my hair ( it can be drying ), I spray it on a Wet Brush & brush it through my hair. So my locks smell fresh! This tip is especially efficient if you’re not a fan of brushing your hair ( cough, cough- me ).
5.) Carry around sample sizes:
OK so this is a little trick I picked up in high school. Every time I buy perfume I ask the salesperson for a sample size. Then I take the sample size & carry it around in my clutch when I go out. If I need a little freshen up, I’m good.
( If you hate deodorant too…these tips are for you! ).
Recently Sarah Jessica Parker sent me her latest scent. If you follow along on Snapchat you know I’ve been loving it for a night out. Reason being: I like a little bit of masculinity in my perfume ( I’m known to wear men’s cologne sometimes ) & this one has the ideal essence.
The scent is mysterious-ish in a flirty way & it has kind of light and dark notes ( love a contrast ). The main contrast is the grapefruit zest with black pepper- OBSESSED. So much yes. You can pick some up at Ulta. I usually stock up.
Plus if we’re being real, the bottle looks amazing on my black gothic vanity, LOL.
What’s your favorite scent lately? Do you commit to one or switch it up? I like to switch it up depending on my mood. Sometimes when you stick with one scent for too long it gets boring.
Also if you have any other secret tips for making your scent last, do tell please.
OK, with that I’m off to read ( loving Tools of the Titans by Tim Ferriss RN ).

+ white top ( I got a size 3 )| black flares | signet pinky ring ( << OBSESSED )
+ this post is in collaboration with SJP Beauty. As always, all opinions are my own.
The tip about oil is new for me! Thanks – going to try it out!

I know I’ve tried SO many perfumes trying to find the perfect one. These tips really help! xx
My two go to’s are oil and the hairbrush thing! Got all my friends obsessed a few years ago! I have always been more of a floraly Miss Dior kind of girl but I tried a sample of this SJP scent a couple weeks ago and actually just caved and bought it last night. Not what I usually go for, but it’s so great to switch it up!
Thanks for the fabulous tips, as always.
XO, Madison
They really help perfume last a lot longer! I know it’s such a versatile scent 🙂 xx
My grandma taught me to spray the perfume on your neck right behind your ears! She’s told me stories of women coming up to her at the grocery store, etc., asking what she is wearing! She loves Red Door by Elizabeth Arden and Lovely also by SJP.
I love Viva La Juicy and Fantasy by Britney Spears. Both sweet scents x
The Marc Jacobs Daisy rollerball scents also lasted me FOREVER, and are super floral & refreshing.
That’s a great tip! I’ll have to try those 🙂 xx
I love these tips! The hairbrush & oils are genius and not to mention great for your skin since like you said, perfumes can be so drying. OK so… my tip is to spray perfume on my ankles! Scent rises so it seems to last all day – I was taught that in high school and have done so ever since! Perfume wise, I am currently LOVING Christian Siriano’s Silhouette & Elizabeth James Nirvana Bourbon, in fact you would love that one, it has a masculine je ne sais quoi to it! x
I’ll have to try that! Thanks Shannon 🙂 xx
Oh that’s brilliant. I am super sensitive to cheap perfume. It gives me a major headache. I must try the SJP.. G’fruit and black pepper..so much yes. Varvatos is my hubby’s go to scent and it’s the leather, the tobacco and pepper notes that get me!!!
Definitely try it! The perfect balance of feminine and masculine. xx
I love my Dior Addict! ❤️ Thank you for the tips!
Of course! Thanks for the support Jennifer 🙂 xx
This post couldn’t have come at a better timing, I was just considering buying another perfume! And it’s more challenging here in Uganda because it’s full time summer. Thank you for the tips, super helpful. So trying them out!
So glad they helped! xx
I am obsessed with this scent! My staff gifted it to me at our holiday party last weekend and I have been wearing it ever since!
It smells so good! xx
OMG if u love masculine scents but a mysterious one like u just aren’t sure but it smells so good that u keep sniffing urself lol then u have to try santal 33 it also lasts a really long time and it’s actually unisex. It’s so sexy I die. Kind of pricey but totally worth it as they make it on the day u order it and label the bottle with the date and whatever u want to say on it. Love ur post u probably already know of the scent but if u don’t u have to try it! ? oh and what oil do u use I find a lot to be too greasy and not absorb into my skin.
Hi Lauryn!
I just saw this setting spray for your perfume, called “Fragrance Lock”. It made the Best of Allure Beauty for 2016! I haven’t tried it, but if it made “The Best of Beauty” list for the whole year it’s GOTTA be good! Just thought I’d share this with you all. As soon as I saw it I thought of this post!? I also have heard that putting your perfume on the inside of your elbows, and behind your knees is a better place to put your perfume! Experts say the scent lasts longer there!
Thanks Monique! I’ll definitely check that out! xx
You need to try ‘The Jazz Club’ perfume by Replica. You can find it at Sephora! It’s a mens (or unisex maybe??) perfume but my friends and I all have it and wear it all the time. Such a nice, classic scent
OOOH that sounds good, checking it out now. Thanks Megan x
I’ll have to give that a try! Thanks Megan 🙂 xx
Thanks for the tip on the oil! I’m loving “Good Girl Gone Bad” by Killian right now- it’s amazing and definitely want to keep the scent going all day!
Derek Lam 10 Crosby 2AM Kiss and La Prairie Midniht Rain. Have worn them for years and get compliments on the reg!!!
Oh and now I am FOR SURE going to implement your wet brush trick!!!
Thanks for giving some quality tips for using perfume for a bit longer period. We generally wear perfume not very smartly which kills the smell much earlier. So here You have defined the steps nicely. Thanks for that.
I’m a perfume addict and have a rotation of several. I apply oil and spray onto the crooks of my arms as well as on the back of my neck, chest, chin (avoid the throat as the alcohol can wear away the thin skin) and behind the ears. I’ve heard the backs of the knees are good but I don’t like to have bare legs so I never do that
Thanks for sharing such tips. Worth-sharing article. Can I use such advice for men??
Thanks for giving some tips.Because i hate when perfume is not working last longer..
