YAWN! Morning Routine: Wake Up With Me

Not shockingly, I have a very specific way I prefer to wake up. I am not a fan of waking up super early. Typically I fall asleep late ( I work a lot a night ) so I try to start my mornings with barely ANY pressure.

One day I’ll film a “Wake Up With Me” video, but in the meantime here’s a breakdown of my ideal morning:

8:30 AM: Wake up and lay in bed for 15 minutes.

I try to meditate for five minutes every morning. Before you laugh, wait. Five minutes is actually a very long time ( for me ) to meditate. I lay there not moving and try to clear my head. I breathe and make a promise to start the day with positive intentions.

8:45 AM: Check my phone ( but who doesn’t? ).

I respond to a few emails, go on social media, & make a list of five things I ABSOLUTELY have to do that day. This helps me have a productive mindset all day.

9:00 AM: Make the bed.

I’m obsessed with starting the day by making the bed. Somehow this sets the tone of the entire day. It’s such a simple task but it really makes all the difference to start the day off on a productive note. While making the bed, I usually turn on some smooth jazz or Brazilian Lounge music. This makes the whole experience more relaxing and enjoyable.

9:15 AM: Light a candle and make my TSC Detox Drink.

There’s nothing I love more than a little music, a delicious candle and my daily ritual of making a detox drink. Lately I’ve been adding a probiotic to the mix for extra support. The one I like is Zicam Total Immune Crystals, which contains pre AND probiotics so it’s the perfect addition to a morning routine. There’s something therapeutic about the whole process. The candle, the drink, the music…you get it.

9:20 AM: Eat breakfast.

As I’m making eggs or steel cut oats I simultaneously check more emails. ALWAYS multi-tasking!

9:45 AM: Workout (if I’m not working out later in the day).

I will do TSC Bombshell Body Guide, Pilates, or occasionally meet with a trainer. I workout for 50 minutes & walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes too. On the treadmill I return emails, do social media, manage comments, &/or hold conference calls.

10:45 AM: It’s time to shower and dry brush to get ready for the workday.

Dry brushing, if you haven’t tried it, is a big, thick brush that you use on your body. You want to brush in an upward motion throughout the body to help unclog pores and excrete toxins ( I do this trick too ). I sip on two iced espresso shots with pumpkin pie spice throughout the day too.

My actual “sit down at the computer” workday usually starts around 11 a.m. My workdays sometimes don’t end until 10 pm-ish ( depending on the day ). I’m really trying to get better and get off the computer at 8 p.m. but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. Also, I’m not sitting at a computer all day – there’s a lot of movement going on. Think: social media, meetings, photo shoots, video production, editing, planning, etc. It’s kind of different each day.

Anyway my morning routine is quiet, relaxing, & as stress-free as possible.

Sooo, how do you start your day?

  1. OMG ok first of all that Veuve candle is the cutest….buying one asssaaapppp.
Second of all, you make me wish I worked from home….it’s so hard to wake up at 6 knowing there’s a 45 minute commute ahead of me! I so admire your work ethic, so this post is a fun little peek into your day 🙂

  2. I actually really like waking up early 🙂 I just love it when everyone is still sleeping (meaning my husband and our dog haha ) and I have some time just for myself, before my day officially “starts”. I am so with you on the “making your bed” thing. I always make sure that my bed is made in the morning and I also love meditating for a few minutes! Sometimes I write down a few things I’m grateful for that given day and that definitely helps to set a positive attitude for the day:) I love reading posts like this one!

    1. Hi Paula, loooove making my bed. There is just something about getting into a fresh bed at night that feels GOOD. Thanks for reading. xx

  3. Your mornings seem so zen! I defintely need to start off my mornings like that more, right now I’ve been waking up at 6am to go to the gym before work but now that it’s starting to get chillier, I’m finding that harder and harder!
Also, SO happy I came across your blog, I love it =] I just stalked it all the way back to july because #obsessed

    1. Hi Rebecca, have you tried working out at home? I do the bombshell body guides at home 3 times per week! xx

  4. I wish I had your routine. Okay, ready for mine? Just before 6 am, my youngest daughter starts to wake up. 6 am, go downstairs to feed the cats. Back upstairs to brush teeth. Go and get youngest daughter and play for 20 minutes. 6:30 downstairs giving her milk and figuring out what she wants for breakfast. 6:30-6:45 older daughters wake up. Middle one has already gotten dressed. 6:45 getting them breakfast. 6:50 go and wake up hubby. (He goes to bed late due to working late). Open everyones blinds and make the beds. 7 am. Make lunches. 7:15 up to shower 7:45, back downstairs to figure out what still needs to be done. 8 am. Brush everyones hair. Send older one upstairs to get dressed and brush teeth. 8:15. Brush youngest and middle daughters teeth. Oh wait, I have to eat breakfast. Eat Breakfast. 8:35 downstairs to put shoes on and jackets. 8:45 everyone in the van and off to school. 9:10 am at Whole foods for grocery shopping. 10 am. Back home. Unload the dishwasher take youngest daughter for a walk and snack. 11:30 am lunch. 12 pm. Pick up middle daughter.

    1. Hi Jessie, thanks for sharing. Wow you’ve got a lot going on. That’s great you’re structured though I am sure it makes things easier for you. Thanks for reading! xx

    1. Hi Stephanie, love it! How has it changed your day? Do you like having that time in the morning to yourself better? Thanks for reading. xx

  5. Love your morning routine! I really need to get one of my own. But so far it’s just waking up with just enough time to get ready for work. 🙁 Anywho, do you ever eat cereal? If so, what kind is the healthiest? I know that’s random, but I love cereal. Haha. And would love to find a healthy one!

  6. Feelin’ this morning routine! Pretty similar to my own. If I don’t make the bed by day is totally off balance – how strange, right??

  7. I am the biggest morning person and have to be at work at 5 AM but I always wake up a bit earlier to write in my gratitude journal and sip on some hot water with lime and just relax before I get my day started. Are used to be a night person until I started personal training again then I had to start waking up early and going to bed by 10.

  8. Great way to start your morning! I either burn a candle as well or sage. I usually meditate for 20 minutes. By the way, your candle is adorable!

  9. I love your morning routine. I burn a candle or sage in the morning, and it leaves the apartment smelling fresh which helps me generate creative thoughts. I also meditate I try to do 20 minutes but nothing less than 5. By the way, I love your candle. Great article!

  10. Oops… I should have been more clear. When I said I loved the candle holder, I meant the glass stick that you have the candle sitting on in the photo (not the candle itself– although it’s nice, too) 🙂
    Where is the stick from?

  11. Hi Lauryn,
Such a huge fan of your blog! I read it religiously! Question abut your detox drink…Do you drink just in the mornings? Or after workouts too? At night after all meals?
    Thanks! 🙂
