Hi! After Vegas I’ve been doing a lot of research on foods that help naturally detox the system. These are five essentials I’ve been eating to flush all sin city out. Tell, tell: what’s your detox tip? Oh…& of course, water&water&more water is rule number one when it comes to detoxing!
{ Information adapted by Candice Kumai }
1.} Cabbage: this helps to release unnecessary fluids in the body. I love that it contains 92% water, which means it’s a diuretic [ << buh-bye bloat! ]. I love to throw cabbage in homemade soup or make a coleslaw salad. Plus the red [ or purple? lol ], round veggie has tons of minerals + vitamins + fiber.
2.} Garlic: call me crazy, but I eat raw cloves of garlic [ I brush my teeth thoroughly afterwards ; ) ]. Yummmm. Make garlic bread [ skinny style: Ezekiel bread, canola oil butter, & fresh chopped garlic ], add this to quinoa, or mix it in with veggies. Garlic lowers cholesterol & de-stresses the system. There’s nothing better than the smell of roasting garlic cascading throughout the kitchen.
3.} Watermelon: this fruit is also a diuretic. It’s full of water too! For a quick salad: add little lemon + arugula + watermelon slices. Other benefits: Vitamin A & C, minerals, antioxidants, and the calories are burned off quickly after consumption.
4.} Detox Tea &/or Herbal Teas: most caffeine-free teas [ especially detox & herbal kinds ] cleanse the body naturally with their polyphenols. My favorite: EveryDay Detox– it’s delicious & calming.
5.} Greens: duh! We all know this one! Greens [ like arugula, kale, &/or spinach ] supply the digestive tract with chlorophyll, which rids the body of any gross crap. Plants clean out the liver [ <<< much needed after Vegas ], cleanse the blood, & can be a natural antibiotic.
this is great information!
Asparagus is my favorite veggie, and it’s also a great, natural diuretic!
Good post. I’ve just got back from a week in Tenerife so I could do with having a few natural detoxing foods.
Thanks for sharing this information with us. I will pin this to my pinterest friends.
Green juice like it’s going out-of-style!
Juice cleanse:
Stick to greens like kale, spinach, green apples (less sugar than red) celery, parsley, lemon, lime, and ginger root. The reason I choose these ingredients is because they are low in sugar levels. Other juice cleanses such as the cranberry flush and master cleanse are very sugary and defeat the purpose of alkalizing your body.
This one is great for 5-10 days when you’ve gone off your diet for a weekend or vacay whatever but it really has all the nutrients your body would need for survival for a long period of time too. There was a study done where two test groups ate McDonalds and one group drank ‘green juice’ with their meal and still lost an average 8lbs because greens have tons of fiber and break down other foods.
For energy levels during the cleanse try Almond milk (Blue Diamond makes an unsweetened one thats really good) with liquid ginseng or shots of B12
The first couple of days are the hardest to adapt but after that its quite easy And if you go off of it don’t eat junk your body will store it. You have to smoothly reintroduce healthy food and small portions.
Enjoy!
I love everything but cabbage! 🙂 Great post.

I’m not too fond of garlic; it runs in the family, I suppose. It’s hard to avoid in America when you eat out, which is why I down a tin of Altoids after, but I don’t consume or cook with it at home. (You may guess that a deal breaker for me on a date is garlic breath, and I have the most acute sense of smell and taste ever). But I’m happily surprised to learn that watermelons are actually so good for you. I used to avoid them because of the sugar content, but well. As to greens, I just love kale; digesting it actually burns more calories than it has. And for tea… I don’t know, I feel like “detox” teas are just a marketing scheme. I like to make infusions from the mint that grows in my garden.
I’m glad I found your blog, I’m trying to lose weight myself so anything that isn’t written by companies or magasines but real people is great!
Love,
S
