When I practice yoga, I take Jeanette’s class. Not only is she a challenging teacher, she has taught me how to breathe, tighten up my core, & lengthen my body. Here we talk yoga, yoga, & more yoga:
+ Introduce yourself.
My name is Jeanette and I am a life & yoga enthusiast! I began studying yoga at the age of seventeen, then became a dedicated practitioner of yoga in Santa Cruz, California, where I underwent a teacher’s training process beginning in 2004 & received my yoga certification in Warrior Yoga in 2006. In 2011, I underwent a two hundred hour teacher training program through YogaWorks under the guidance and instruction of Stacy McCarthy & Jessica Seabern. Throughout my yoga journey, I have had the opportunity to study multiple styles of yoga including Hatha, Warrior, Ashtanga, Anusara, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Synergy, & Bikram in various settings including Northern and Southern California, Turkey, & Thailand. I have had the privilege of studying under and being influenced by several extraordinary instructors including Michael Fukumura, Reverend Tom Kelly, Jessica Seabern, Stacy McCarthy, Peri Ness-DeFay, Sensei Jeremy Corbell, and Sensei Kevin Snorf. I am also the Manager of the Haute Yoga studio in Solana Beach. She feels honored and blessed to be a part of such an incredible community of yoga. Check out my website and class schedule here.
+ Best part of yoga?
Attuning to the suttlties of life itself!!! The practice of breaking down the boundaries of the mind & experiencing deep levels of freedom through the breath.
+ How does yoga change your body?
Yoga strengthens, opens & balances the body, promoting the body to function at its optimal capacity!
+ What should you eat before and after yoga?
There are many schools of thought on this. One method is to make sure not to eat within two hours of practice & to maintain a vegetarian diet. This works for many, but NOT for everyone! You do not need to be a vegetarian to do yoga. My recommendation: eat in a way that makes you feel vibrantly alive! Allow food to by your medicine & medicine to be your food.
+ Favorite pre or post yoga smoothie?
YES!!! Water, banana, & spinach is WONDERFUL [ similar to the Yogi Green Smoothie Drink found here ]. You can add rice protein [ Sun Warrior brand, for extra protein if you want go the vegan, raw route ]. One other thing you can use is spirulina protein!
+ Effective yoga move you can do from home?
Cat/cow- opens the spine. It promotes healthy funtion in the spinal highway which makes way for healthy posture & open body!
Great post! I love gym classes, but didn’t get to love yoga till couple months ago. I guess I just didn’t click with the teachers. Now the I found mine, I enjoy yoga so much! I used to have some problems with my spine, and I don’t any more. I also should mention that I used to dance professionally and no cardio workouts or my dancing practices made me look as toned as yoga did. Great workout for body and mind!
my cousin is all about yoga, she’s been trying to get me to do it with her for forever! i’ve done it a few times and it is totally relaxing and awesome.
Yoga helped me find myself, as cheesy as it sounds. I was suffering through an eating disorder and turned to yoga throughout recovery. It helped teach me to love my body and take care of it for what it does for me, not what I wish it looked like. A few years later, I got certified to hopefully give the gift of yoga to others. Lovely post.
