Sass It Up: Old Hollywood Waves

NEW YEAR’S EVE is almost here.

Excited for champagne, good music, a new year! Anyone else?

I feel like it’s entirely appropriate to start the New Year with a new hair style. Hence the old Hollywood waves.

( How festive of me! )

Especially in love with this look because I feel like the hair is very Margot Robbie. Right though? AND YES, you can do this at-home…that’s right guys, it’s very simple to recreate these waves on your own.

Alright, let’s get right to it shall we?

You will need:

Bristle brush
Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Anti-Frizz Shampoo
Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Finishing Conditioner
Bobby pins
Pantene Smooth and Sleek 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner
Teasing comb
Clipless iron

Sassy, sexy old Hollywood waves:

1. Start fresh. Wash your hair with Pantene’s Smooth & Sleek shampoo & conditioner which makes your hair smooth for days. You want your hair smooth & sleek for these waves so this product is the perfect prep. Finish off with a 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner. This will provide you with the IDEAL canvas to begin your waves. These products contain anti-humidity technology to lock out frizz and extend that smooth style you’re going for!

2. Blow dry your hair, keep it simple here. Then separate the top section of hair and pin it up. Nothing special here.

3. Hold a 1-inch curling iron vertically, then wrap a large section of hair from the heavier side of your part away from your face to create your first curl. Repeat around head, creating all of the curls in the same direction. KEEP THE CURLER vertical.

4. Mist with hairspray.

5. Part the top section of your hair to the side and repeat the same steps.

6. Use a flat brush to gently brush out your waves, starting from the root from the end, to create the wave pattern. If your hair tends to use its curl, use your fingers. Want more volume? Use the teasing brush to tease it.

7. Lastly pin back one side of your part with a couple bobby pins. Add more hair spray.

So easy, so fun. I feel like this is kind of a spin on the typical, basic bitch curl.

Plus, I ordered the Pantene products from Amazon, as in straight to my door. I’m so last-minute.

For the outfit here, I threw on a top I wore a few years ago. A metallic get-up for NYE is always good because it’s sparkly without the glitter. The lipstick I’m wearing is BRIGHT pink & it looks very party-esque. This particular color makes teeth appear whiter too. It’s the perfect pink in my opinion. To finish it off I did tons of mascara & some double-sided pearl earrings. Thankfully I had a good spray tan level 1 here too.

By the way, when I’m rocking this hair style I really commit to it. Like I wear it for a few days…like 5? LOL. It’s one of those hairstyles that lasts in the best way possible.

Sometimes, days later when the upper part gets messed up I’ll throw a beanie on & TA-DA it looks chic again. YES PLZ.

Ok, that’s it. Easy waves for ya.

What are your NYE plans? Give me all the juicy details. Live it up!

Cheers guys, lauryn x

nye-non-sparkle-vibesBetween the wedding, starting the podcast & getting ready to launch some fun new products for you guys 2016 flew by! SUBSCRIBE to the TSC newsletter now because I have a secret I’m sharing ONLY in the newsletter this TUESDAY. SO EXCITED. Now that we’re back I’m ready to focus and kill it in 2017. Which brings me to NYE.

If you follow along on Snapchat ( un: laurynevarts ) you know I LOVE retirement vibes. It’s safe to say I’m over the crowded club, the sequins everywhere & the high expectations. New Year, New You. YAWN. You can change whenever you want to change. Excuses are like assholes, everyone has one!

Anyway, I plan on keeping it pretty mellow this year by spending time with my HUSBAND (!)Pixy & Boone. Think Bossanova, oysters & some chilled champagne.  Just because I plan to take it easy doesn’t mean I won’t get dressed up. It’s always fun to play a little dress up & have some fun. But I am OVER sequins. Let’s avoid that please? Thank you.

Here’s what I can’t wait to rock for a non sequin NYE:

You can find most girls in sequins, glitter or some sort of all black look for NYE. I LOVE contrast which is why I can’t wait to rock this bright pink dress. You will make a statement against all the glitter & black. Plus the deep v really showcases the girls in the most flattering way.

I love playing with texture & this gold and leather wrap choker is just that. It’s perfect for layering and wearing with a plunging neckline.

These gold bar earrings are minimalistic & timeless. These are a steal that you’ll wear over and over again.

Keep your phone, lip stick and wallet close by with this festive gold clutch.

I JUST talked about this IT CC Cream & how it has changed my skin/makeup game. Really though I can’t stop. The wet beautyblender & CC Cream together make for this dewy, glowy, Snapchat-filter finish that you will become addicted too. To be real, I’d rather not do my makeup without this CC Cream honestly. It’s that good.

{ 6 FIND the metallic pigment kit HERE }

Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath created this insane metallic pigment kit. It’s perfect for brightening your lids, creating gilded lip looks, and adding some shine to your shoulders. I’m going to try rocking the silver metallic lip this NYE.

{ 7 FIND the silver bodysuit HERE }

A bodysuit is one of my favorite ways to get dressed. They’re easy and so chic. I’m DYING over this silver metallic bodysuit. Rock a high pony to show off the open back.

{ 8 FIND THE dark green nail polish HERE }

A clean manicure is a must. When I was in London EVERYONE was rocking this dark green nail polish. It’s moody in all the right ways.

I’m over stacking multiple dainty rings & bracelets. This gold hand chain makes it easy to have both in one. Plus I don’t need to worry about losing all of those rings. LOL.

{ 10 FIND THE Velvet booties HERE }

I’m having a MAJOR velvet moment right now. From shoes to jackets, if it’s velvet I want it. This pair of vampy red booties with a glitter heel are already in my closet.

I know we’re talking about NYE but can you believe Christmas is just a week away? Hopefully you haven’t been procrastinating on your holiday shopping. BUT if you have I got you covered.  Check out my huge ass gift guide PART 1 & PART 2 and for all of the men in your life look at Michael’s Him gift guide. If you’re REALLY last minute ( shipping fees get crazy! YIKES. ) go pick up a book from our book club. Easy.

Don’t forget, subscribe to the newsletter for a secret announcement on Tuesday ; )

A Touch Of Glam For NYE

top ( sold out but similar ) || black skirt ( similar version for $29 ) || arm band

I loveeee ( like loooovveee ) New Year’s Eve.

It’s so fun to get dressed up & feel all girly especially knowing the next day is a new year/fresh start.

And honestly, there’s something refreshing about a new year while you’re rocking glitter & feeling confident.

When it comes to makeup/hair/outfit on New Year’s, I’m veryyyy specific.

Typically I go for Marilyn-esque hair, a red lip, a little glitter, BIG ( BIG/HUGE/FLARED) lashes, a pop of gold, a flowy skirt, & a glass of bubbly.

For this NY look I curled my hair two days before, slept on it, brushed it out a little bit, & sprayed it with a bunch of hair spray ( totally feeling a deep, deep side part for 2015 ).

For my makeup: I used this red lipstick & Kylie Jenner-over lined my lips with this liner. I LOVE this red lipstick because it doesn’t do that flake-y thing…no one wants flaky, New Year’s lips.

Ok, so LASHES ARE KEY. I’ve been using Urban Decay’s ‘Perversion’ for the past six month ( see: totally used bottle, lol ) & it’s literally the best mascara I’ve ever used. If you’ve read The Skinny Confidential Book you know I like to prime my lashes, curl them, add mascara, & repeat so the mascara needs to be the ‘right mascara.’ Meaning it can’t be clumpy or gooey. This mascara’s texture is a serious dream come true.

For an extra pop this NYE I’m thinking of trying these fake lashes with a pop of glitter. Fun right? Sometimes I’ll even cut the lashes in half for a more flared look.

Soooo, here’s specific directions for makeup:

1.) add primer, foundation, & bronzer ( a little contour never hurt a flea ).
2.) fill in brows.
3.) add red lipstick AND THEN lip liner. I like to do it the opposite way!!
4.) prime lashes, curl, add mascara, repeat.
5.) use fake lashes to capture that flirty, flared look.
6.) add a little silver glitter underneath the lower lash for a total NYE look.
7.) sprinkle a little clear glitter on your chest or mix it with arm/leg lotion for some extra sparkle!

Outfit-wise I’m OBSESSED with the gold-lamé look. It’s sort of 80’s but at the same time classic. By the way, this top isn’t a top…it’s a leotard!! To complete the look I added some Nippies ( because duh ) & a black flowy skirt, & an arm band.

Sooo ta-da, that’s how I get New Year’s Eve ready!

Would love to hear: what’s your favorite NYE look?

WTF to Wear For NYE? I Gotcha Covered.

December 31, 2013

Lauryn Evarts talks diet, fitness, and fashion.

1.} I’m not a sequinie-sequin girl, but this black number looks vintage-ish/spicy.

2.} Latest fav: a super hot pink lip ( think Khloe Kardashian-esque ).

3.} Pair this dress with a red lip & a high, top-knot bun & you’re golden.

4.} If a lipstick color could be my boyfriend, I’d choose this crimson color.

5.} A maxi is different & unexpected for NYE, which I love. I just bought this one– the fit is to-die. Changing it up for NYE is always fun : ).

6.} Again I’m not glitter crazed, but this hottie mini screams par-tay without being overly sexy. Love. Personally I would do a size up, so it’s not too tight but not too loose.

7.} This dress does it for me. If I could hand pick one NYE dress, this is it. Bible.

8.} I’d pair this delicate cross over blouse with super tight, super long maxi skirt. Sahhh cute.

So. WTF are you wearing on NYE? Tell, tell.
