Two Hair Products YOU NEED

Updated: October 4, 2016

Wait. You guys know the whole washing hair thing really isn’t for me.

In fact, the dirtier, the better ( so sue me? )……….I feel like the longest I’ve ever gone is 2 weeks? A week & a half is fun too. If I’m lucky, once a week it happens. But that’s just if I’m lucky.

If you follow along on Snapchat, you can see I love a good week & half-ish blowout. For the record, a blowout is a luxury I am 100% willing to spend money on. The reasoning behind this theory is actually very logical. When I get a blowout, I get one hour to myself. The hour is extremely productive because really if you think about it, I’m killing two birds with one stone. E-mails, check! Conference calls, check! Fresh / ready to go hair, check!

( Side note: scheduling conference calls in the first half of the blowout is my favorite thing ever, try it ).

Really though, you walk out of the blowout feeling like a real Pantene Pro V commercial with a full, uninterrupted hour of work behind you.

You should know, typically Drybar in Del Mar has amazing WiFi. The champagne is always a plus too. Unless of course it’s 11 AM & you’re feeling more of a cucumber & lemon water moment.

The logic behind this is simply that the alternative to a blowout is to waste an uninterrupted hour of work on washing it myself – and my hair never looks as good when I’m doing it myself. The hour of work is worth the dough. Time is money, right.

Is this theory off-base? Thoughts?

Ok well let’s get right into the whole reason you’re reading: two hair products.

These are two products that I literally bring in my purse to the salon OR use at home. They’re nothing fancy. Straight to the point actually. I’ve used both of these for YEARS & honestly haven’t ever swayed. It’s like a bad boy, motorcycle riding hottie ex-boyfriend you can’t quit. I always go back, you know?

The first product is SO MUCH YES: purple shampoo.

Every girl needs some purple shampoo.

That’s right, even if you’re brunette. Why? Because !!! It takes the brassiness out of hair. Just ask my friend, Erica from Fashionlush. You know the orange-ish, sometimes yellow-y look? Well purple shampoo dilutes that while kind of cooling it down. Personally red / orange tones are not flattering on my skin ( which is also why I always ask for spray tan shades that don’t have ‘red tones’ in them ) so the purple shampoo removes all those unflattering tones immediately.

I use it every OTHER week, not every time. It’s overkill. You’ll also need conditioner because purple shampoo NEEDS something moisturizing to compliment it. Lastly, make sure you leave it on for a hot minute. Don’t rush to rinse it out, you know? Just let it chill so you can soak up all of its magical goodness.

This one is $10.76 & it’s the holy grail of shampoo in my opinion ( << nothing sponsored, just LOVE ). I pair it with this conditioner ( $9 bucks! ) — there’s a set deal too if you want. Use both every other wash for best results.

Ok on to the next:

When I was introduced to THIS little gem, I immediately fell in love.

First of all, this makes your hair smell amazing. I swear even when I’m not wearing deodorant ( ….LOL ) people will comment about the light, fresh smell. It’s not attributed to anything but this thick dry finishing spray.

The best thing about this product though is that it sort of gives waves with that chic, edgy vibe. It’s hard to explain but it takes the 4-year-old curl out of the equation. Basically makes the curls less precious? My waves DO NOT LOOK the same without this product. After waves are added to my hair I add this thick dry finishing spray to complete the look. I spray it about 6 inches from my hair & kind of shake up the hair. If you’re curious about more hair details: sex pot curl breakdown here, video tutorial here.

It gives the perfect finish to a wave or curl. SO IDEAL.

Honestly I wouldn’t even want my hair done if I didn’t have this product. It’s that good.

Oh, if you’re going to get this, no need to buy the full size. Just get the travel size. It’s less expensive & fits in your handbag so I actually like the smaller size better.

What is your holy grail hair product? Don’t get too crazy, you know I hate to wash my hair so an expensive shampoo is not my favorite! HA.

Talk tomorrow, happy Thursday!

Ride Or Die Hair Tools No One Should Be Without

Updated: March 28, 2016

hair tools | by the skinny confidential

Drybar Hold Me Hair Clips Moroccanoil ® Tourmalite Ceramic Hair Dryer Wet Brush Detangle Hair Brush T3 Single Pass X Straightening and Styling Iron | T3 Twirl 360

These hair tools are 100% essential.

Think of them as your ride or die hair tools. They’re always there for you, and are capable of getting any job DONE.

No woman should be without these hair tools. Here’s why I’m obsessed:

Alligator Clips: I’ve talked about these little guys A LOT. Alligator clips are an essential tool for the sleep bun, AKA  the best way to attain soft, pretty, kinda unwashed hair curls. I always have an alligator clip handy. They’re probably my favorite hair tool of all time honestly.

Morrocanoil Hair Dryer: This isn’t your average hair dryer. This little baby packs a serious punch. This hair dryer is professional-level and allows for maximum absorption of water to minimize static and leave your hair smooth and shiny from root to tip. AKA, less fly aways & healthier, longer hair!

The Wet Brush: If you don’t have a wet brush, GET ONE NOW. I’m not kidding. This brush is a total game changer. It miraculously detangles the biggest, dread lock knots, without doing damage to your hair. As soon as I got my hands on one of these, I ditched all of my other brushes. Once you go wet brush, you never go back.

T3 Single Pass Straightener: This tool will save you SO much time. Especially if you are someone that straightens your hair often. The single pass straightener is all about being quick. You don’t have to straighten the same clump of hair 50 times, only once.

T3 Twirl 360: When I say this curler is unlike any other, I mean it. It’s patent-pending because it has a built in motion-sensing technology with a barrel that spins with the flick of your wrist. It makes curling EASIER because you don’t have to move and twirl the curler yourself. I’m into it!

Well there you have it, the hair tools that are absolutely ESSENTIAL.

What are your favorite hair tools? Share them below, I’m looking to add to my list!

Kitten-ish Sexy, Valentine’s Day Hair

Updated: February 8, 2016

lauryn evarts hair tips | by the skinny confidential

Valentine’s Day is coming & I’m all about some feminine hair.

Some of you guys asked me on Instagram & Snapchat how I did this hair on NYE…& I DIDN’T. My friend & hairstylist, Shawn Knudsen did ( she also did my hair for the cover of LOCALE Magazine too! ). So I went straight to the source to get some spicy, kitten-ish Valentine’s Day hair.

Meet Shawn, a bubbly, perfectly blonde beauty who’s amazing at doing hair:

Hey guys! I’m Shawn.

I started out by giving Lauryn a side part. A side part as opposed to a middle part gives this look a sexier edge. Lauryn & I always talk about how we prefer our “good side” to be the side that we won’t be pinning back.

I love a swoop bang on my good side. It photographs better for me.

Anyway, then I curled her hair. I used a one and a half inch curling iron by Hot Tools. This gives a bigger curl. I like to call it a “Kardashian curl”. Which makes it look like a really killer blowout.

So after putting curls into her hair, I then did an easy, yet so pretty, half pinned style by taking the section on the side I was going to pin. The section is from her hairline right past the back of her ear. That section will be the pinned part. Rather than just pin it we made it a little more intricate looking. I took three horizontal sections at the hairline like I was going to braid them.

Instead I took that middle strand and pinned it straight back tightly. Then with the two other strands I crossed them over the middle strand to give it the X look & secured with bobby pins.

Try to pin the bobby pins out of sight, nobody likes bobby pins showing.

Also, I always like to mess with my curls to let them fall a tad as well. Lauryn loves when I mess them up, she never likes perfect hair.

Lastly, I finished with some flexible hold hair spray to tame any fly-aways…& BOOM you have yourself a sleek and chic look, perfect for a date night out or a lunch with some girlfriends.

Here are the steps simplified:

1.) Pick a side part.

2.) Curl hair away from face ( soft Kardashian curl ).

3.) Section side to be pinned into three strands horizontally  ( top, middle, bottom ).

4.) Pin middle strand straight back & tight.

5.) Crisscross top & bottom strand over middle strand to make X shape.

6.) Bobby pin & spray.

Products used:

Paul Mitchell Worked Up ( workable hairspray )

Kevin Murphy Doo Over Dry Powder finishing texture spray

Drybar alligator clips

Hot Tools one and a half inch curling iron

Lauryn again! To maintain the soft curls Shawn gave me I do what I always do: The Sleep Bun ( at night ). All smiley today too because the curling iron of my dreams just came in the mail last week!! I’ll be filming some fun shit with it.

Also, I just started using THIS TEXTURIZING SPRAY & I am in looooooveeeeee with it. I can’t live without it. Not sponsored, just realness. It’s TO DIEEEEE. Seriously changes the hair game. It’s a bit of an investment for hair ( $39 ) but it’s worth every fucking penny, trust me.

If I decide to not wash my hair for a week ( which I literally do all the time ), I throw a little dry shampoo at the root. The stuff I use is like $8 & old school called Psssssst. Sometimes old school is the best. Super simple.

Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t make your curls last.

Washing your hair is such a bitch sooooo having Shawn curl my hair means no washing, no upkeep, no hassle for like a week.

By the way, The Nanz goes to Shawn to jazz up her bouffant ( I can’t ) & loves her.

To book with Shawn, e-mail her: knudsen_s@hotmail.com & or contact her via Instagram. & of course, let us know what other hair styles you’re interested in seeing.

Happy Thursday! lauryn x

Date Night Hair | Part 1

Updated: September 29, 2015

The Skinny Confidential x Wella.

The Skinny Confidential x Wella.

Call me weird but date night is an important part of my life.

It’s an opportunity for me & Michael to go out and talk ( without our phones ) or any other distractions. We typically order a nice bottle of red wine and split an appetizer. Usually we try ( keyword: ‘try’ ) to avoid any convo about work too.

But let’s talk about pre-date night.

Like, you know, how to prepare.

If you know me, you know my middle name is procrastination so prepping isn’t exactly my strong spot? LOL?

Top three priorities:

AKA: duh, duh, & DUH.

Those three things can change your look and don’t require 5 million hours of prep.

Let’s start with hair.

I get a lot of questions on hair so I figured a visual would be the best way to explain. For date night, I utilize the five minute to fab rule. All I do is spray my hair with a little oil ( lately I’ve been loving the Wella Professionals LuxeOil Leave-In Conditioning Spray ). I like to put the oil towards my ends so it seals in/repairs any serious split ends and leaves my hair smelling great ( AND gives Michael a reason to lean in a little closer ).

If you’re afraid of oil on your hair, DON’T BE. It makes such a difference if you’re using the correct kind. And it also matters where on the hair you place it. Obviously you don’t want to rub oil on your roots. Keep it towards the ends of your hair & you’ll be a very, VERY happy camper.

After the oil I put my hair in to a low Sleep Bun.

  The Skinny Confidential x Wella.

The low Sleep Bun allows me to keep my hair off my face while I slab on some quick makeup. Also it primes the hair for exactly the look I’m going for.THENNNN I go in for makeup. Think: quick Laura Mercier foundation, a little brow powder, my prime/curl/prime/mascara method, & last but CERTAINLY not least a bold lip. A bold lip looks like I put a million hours into the look when really I’ve had 20 to 30 minutes to get ready, on a lucky day.

After my makeup is done I’ll throw on a baggy, chic blouse, some tight jeans, and PUMPS!! Pumps are quick to throw on & they add some height which scream sex appeal.

Now it’s time to undo my hair. As you can see from the photos I take out my Sleep Bun clip, shake out my hair, & add the magic ingredient: the Wella Professionals LuxeOil Light Oil Shine Spray. It’s paraben free & absolutely perfect for adding shine to the Sleep Bun wave.

The Skinny Confidential x Wella.

The Sleep Bun wave is the perfect, effortless hair do for date night. I can’t wait to show you guys the final look…

Stay tuned for date night, part two later next week!!

What are your sexy, sassy date night prep tips?

x, Lauryn

P.S. Speaking of date night, Wella is partnering with Match.com to encourage woman to show off their date night hair! Submit your date night look when the contest kicks off next week & follow @WellaHairUSA for more deets!
