Ahhh!! Prepare for picture overload.

Since the cat’s outta the bag that Michael & I don’t live together, today I figured I’d share a peek inside my home.

Obviously it’s feminine because before moving in with my man, I wanted to live…well, pretty.

Little backstory: my stepmom, Julie has a blog called Burlap & Crystal. She specializes in home design. The second I moved into my place I called Julie. We were so excited to work on this home project together. I feel like the whole time we were on the same wavelength. Our goal: for each space in the house to tell a story. So each nick of the house is essentially a different experience i.e. the bar cart, desk area, patio. Julie said:

“if I had to put a label on Lauryn’s style, I’d say it is a multi-dimensional combination of glam meets bohemian with an occasional visit from a rocker.”

She also went on to say: “we really worked together to accomplish the ultimate goal…a home where Lauryn walks in the door and feels…completely at HOME.”

You can read about Julie’s experience here

First off, we did a lot of bargain shopping. I’m kind of obsessed with mixing high end & low end pieces. I mean…let’s just say I’ve never met a Home Goods, Marshall’s, or Target I didn’t like. I swear all three of those stores always have the best finds.

So when we first started styling my home we decided to add a lot of pieces you won’t really expect as home decor. Such as? Whelp, white gum balls, shoes ( yes, shoes ), purses, & lipsticks:

Some of my favorite finds:

Lipstick holder

Coffee table books ( Chanel // The Skinny Confidential Book }

A gold bar cart ( << on SALE! )

Pretty candles

Diffusers

Rose gold cutlery

Another big piece of the home decor puzzle was the desk.

Since I’m constantly on the computer ( like, it’s actually embarrassing the amount of time I spend hooked to screen ), I wanted a very zen, white space. White is calming. So we choose pieces such as my grandma’s vintage monkeys, a Brigitte Bardot piece, & tiny healing crystals to style the desk:

It was really important to me that the house didn’t feel clutters. So we kept things simple but also made sure that there were little interesting trinkets everywhere. & of course, each trinket tells a story.

One of my favorite pieces in the house is this tiny, teal unicorn. It’s so simple but so cute. Michael & I found him in New York City ( similar avail here ). He sits on my desk & watches me blog:

Julie painted me the above patio set—she’s seriously so talented! She found the chairs & table at a consignment store for $300 bucks & really gave them a personal touch.

Also, call me weird but I wanted a fully styled closet.

So now my closet has shoes displayed, vintage Barbie pictures hanging on the walls, & little gold necklace holders. Shocking but the closet is my favorite area in any house…

…besides the kitchen. I love the kitchen too. We went for a minimal look using ‘contain, keep, crush’ kitchenware, a giant white tea kettle, & a big round ‘lazy Susan’ which holds a couple pale teal bowls & rose gold cutlery.

Around the house are gold touches but I tried to avoid gaudy gold. I especially love the gold bar cart & this little foil print that I found on Etsy:

Ok, so I’m a big fan of pieces that are different heights in the home.

If you look closely, everything is different heights.

For instance, there’s a super tall candle holder on my living room table. But then I had shorter candles, a medium sized diffuser, & stacked books that were lower to the table. Mixing up dimensions make all the difference when styling a room.

Kate Moss was kinda a theme in my house too. Her style is so spot on that I wanted to have a couple black & white photos of her in her high fashion days.. I also love a woman’s body ( << the body is a beautiful thing!! ), so you’ll find a lot of feminine ( sometimes nude! ) figures/watercolors around my house too.

As far as the bedroom, I decided not to share because ya gotta keep some stuff private ; ). Putting my bedroom on the Internet just didn’t feel right.

Oh! And case in anyone’s wondering…Pixy resides in her printed tipi where she conducts some serious monkey business:

Anyway I hope you enjoyed my home tour. Special thanks to Julie— she’s truly freaking amazing.

  1. The FIRST thing that caught my eye was the bar table, I cannot believe it is on sale too! Perfection 😀
    Love your apartment, absolutely beautiful!

  2. Now I’m not just saying this, but I think your home decor is flawless! I’m actually moving places in September and I’ve been on the hunt for decor pieces, mainly white and uncluttered too, and this post has truly inspired me. Thanks! X

  3. This is so so beautiful… I’m preparing to decorate my bedroom at the house I am leasing near my university and am SO inspired by this.
I love the personal knick knacks – they compliment the room and add a personal touch without any clutter. AH. So in love.

  4. I just love your home – and where oh where did you get those keep, contain, crush containers from?! #need!! It’s so great you could work with your stepmom on your home, as an interior decorator I know my favourite clients were those that I was closest with so I knew I could really add those personal touches that make a house a home! Happy Friday girl XO,D

  5. A girl after my own heart! That is why I have stayed in Real Estate for 37 yrs. I love helping and protecting people when they are buying or selling homes and I am obsessed with interior design that illustrates homeowners personality!

  6. I love your place! as I was looking for style inspiration for my home, I stumbled upon this blog and blog post. The funny part is I know Julie and have always loved her style and how she is so creative. Tell her I said hello!

  7. I love your home! It’s everything I would have wanted for my apartment when I was living on my own. It would be interesting to see how you incorporate your feminine style in to your new home with your man.

  8. I love everything! I tried clicking on the link you provided for the bar cart but it didn’t work 🙁 would you kind telling me what it’s called or another link please? Thanks! ^_^

  9. I looove your space. When I lived in my apartment alone, I decorated my bedroom mega-girly. Flowers, all white bedding, sparkly, pink and gold everywhere. Good thing too because when my bf moved in last year, that room became his office and all the redecorating has been so full of compromise. He STILL thinks our place is too ‘girly’ but I don’t even think there’s a spot of pink left anywhere!

  10. Thanks so much for always sharing your amazing style! I feel totally inspired to do a revamp of my condo now. I’m kind of dying over the Keep, Contain, Crush jars and the white mug with the metallic lipstick imprint. Where are those from? They’re fab!

  11. I realize this is quite the expired post, but I was sifting through old posts looking at (drooling over) your home decor style and stumbled upon those white glass containers that I LOVE. (The ones labeled ‘keep’, ‘contain’, ‘crush’, etc.) I was wondering where you found them. I’ve seen similar dishes with the same black font, and adore the simplicity of them. Thanks Lauryn!

  12. Hello Lauryn, I love your home decoration. It is looking awesome. Your wallpaper is so much attractive. You have decorated your room with awesome photographs. Thanks for sharing such a nice blog.

    1. The building plan for the house should be complete, exact and followed until the end. Numerous changes and unexpected modifications in the plans could lead to a blown budget. Thus, make sure that you have a clear and exact plan from the construction to the labor to get the job done.

  13. Home decorating can be very fun but yet challenging at times; whether it be with western decorations or rustic home decor. Western home decor is decor that will give your rooms a look and a feel of warmth, invitation, and loaded with charm. On the other hand, rustic decor is a type of decor that will reflect a love of the outdoors and it also makes the home welcoming and homey.

  14. I found your apartment simple yet elegant. You know what I’m in love with white background. It gives me a feeling of comforts and cleanliness. It freshes the eyes who views it.

  15. You can do anything when you are staying alone. Like me, I wonder what to do when I’m alone. I’m thinking of cleaning, redecorating, or improving my house. But, sometimes I have no ideas where to start. Glad, I was able to check your blog for more tips.

  16. The reason why most people love to go outside their home is that they are boring or stress, alone and wanted to have companions, and feel anxious about the house that they are living in. The way of design the home becomes the big point to stay inside your home.

  17. Elegant home, it is really a combination of glam and bohemian and a rocker! I like everything that I see in your pictures. I loved the furniture. How I wish I could have the same house as you. The styling techniques are genius!

  18. Such interesting information! I am planing to move to my own home so this is so cool for me! thanks for sharing
