Spray tanning is one of those things that can turn out absolutely amazing & provide a slimming effect or it’s a shit show & you end up resembling an Oompa-Loompa. It is an unbelievable solution for when I want to give off the illusion that I “dropped” a cool five pounds. Depending on the season I average about three tans a month at Tan @ the Islands. Also, I never use the tanning beds because no one wants wrinkles or skin cancer!
Tips for a Successful Spray Tan:
+ Always make sure the tanning product is by Versa Spa or Mystic Tan.
+ Exfoliate/shower [ shave, loofah and scrub your face & neck [[ the Clarisonic is fab for this]] ] pre-tan. SHAVE too.
+ Remove all lotions, make-up, & jewelry before the tan.
+ Use the barrier cream on the insides of the hands.
+ Slap on Sticky Feet to protect the bottoms of the feet.
+ When spraying is complete: wash hands, wipe off your feetsies, & pat the rest of the body dry with two towels.
+ The neck area needs extra patting.
+ Keep the spray tan solution on for at least six to seven hours before a shower.
+ Do not wear white clothing after the tan.
P.S. Always get a mani afterwards, not before. The tanning solution ruins it. Get a pedicure on an entirely different day.
thanks for the great tips! as I have a wedding coming up so these are just perfect for my spray tanning 🙂 thanks
We should do a guest blog post. You’re both awesome. xoxo
Love me some spray tanning… have been going to Tan @ the Island for YEARS… the Versa there is fantastic. Love your blog, Lauryn!!

Thank you Kaitlyn. Can’t wait to feature you :).
I have been a spray tan lover for quite a while, and have recently started using the tanning towels. Regardless whether i get the versa spray tan at the salon or use the towelettes I can’t find a solution for the HAND situation :(. I wash mine just as you do..but then I have a line on my wrist where the tan cuts off..and people notice. Any suggestions before spring and summer is here??
Use a barrier cream ( only on the palms your hands though ) and then wash your hands after the spray tan. If your salon doesn’t have barrier cream, order it on Amazon!
Hope that helps babe. X.
I’m sure everyone is different with how their body takes a spray tan but what works for me everytime is coating a layer of the chapstick Carmex on my nails and immediatly wiping them after the spray. as for the hands rubbing lotion on the palms will keep the tan from sticking
Sometimes after a week or two after a spray tan, it seems to rub off on my neck. Do you know how to prevent this???
Thank you very much for giving this awesome post, it is a great way to fully enjoy it.
Amazing tips. I don’t want to end up like Oompa-Loompa lol! Thanks for sharing.
