Sound Bowls: The Best Buy of 2020

Sound Bowls: The Best Buy of 2020

My friend Claire Grieve sparked my sound bowl obsession when she posted about them on Instagram when she was sharing her morning routine. There she was sitting cross-legged on the ground, fresh-faced, banging her sound bowls, making the most beautiful sound EVER.

LIttle sidenote: Claire’s energy is out of this world. You have to check out her podcast episode on The Skinny Confidential HIM & HER where she talks all about anxiety & the mind/body connection.

Anyway, back to sound bowls. She inspired me to get my own since I’m so much about a morning routine & love a vibe, always. It also didn’t hurt that Claire’s sound bowls were beautiful, white, & frosted. Like, let’s just say I thought the aesthetic would match my bedroom perfectly.

Sound Bowls: The Best Buy of 2020

But first…

A little background on sound bowls…

“The first singing bowls were said to be made in Mesopotamia over 5,000 years ago. As such, singing bowls are believed to be one of the most ancient artisan crafts in human history. Although folklore about the artisans behind singing bowls existed in the later centuries, knowledge of that folklore unfortunately died along with the singing bowls’ succeeding owners.

The very first singing bowls were said to be made of pure copper and produced for both medicinal and musical purposes. In fact, they were produced primarily inside the homes of the artisans. Knowledge about the metalwork was passed on from generation to generation, although eventually this knowledge chain was broken. Some time later, singing bowls began to be made of brass, which is a combination of various earth metals, including copper. Some anecdotal references say that 2,000-year old brass singing bowls appeared in a Chinese region called Tibet at the dawn of the last century.” { via }

After doing a ton of research I found out that not all sound bowls are created equal. It was kinda crazy to find out that there are 3 tiers of bowls at 3 different price points. So if I was getting into sound bowls for the first time, I would personally go for tier 2.

Tiers of Quartz Crystal Healing Bowls:

♡ Tier 1

This Deep Sound Singing Bowl is a pure frosted quartz singing bowl & comes with a mallet. In addition, it’s used for meditation & chakra clearing sounds. It is 7 inches across the top, 6.5 inches high & has a slightly rounded bottom.

♡ Tier 2

These frosted bowls from crystalswithpurpose are known as “Featherlight” Opaque Quartz, which is formed in a unique method that creates millions of microscopic gaseous bubbles in the quartz matrix. These bubbles diffract light, clouding the quartz to its opacity. In fact, this style of quartz is used to dampen UV rays. In addition, featherlight singing bowls range from 6-10” in diameter.

Each of these bowls comes with an o-ring & suede mallet so you can play it as soon as it gets to you.

A bit about Quartz from crystalswithpurpose:

Quartz is the most powerful healing & energy amplifier on the planet because of its unique crystaline form. Because of it’s high energy vibration, Quartz is in practically everything- from watches, to computers, to even the human body. It absorbs, stores, releases, & regulates energy & is excellent for unblocking it.

At a spiritual level, Quartz raises energy to the highest possible level. At a mental level, Quartz aids concentration & unlocks memory. Quartz emits strong healing & cleansing energy that eliminates negative energy & raises the vibration of your living space. If your spirit needs illumination, it brings clarity to matters you are seeking. Its ability to be programmed for manifestation is unlike any other stone. It will help you manifest your intentions with crystal clarity like never before.

The process in which the clear bowls are manufactured generally puts them in a lower octave range than bowls of the same size in the frosted style. The deep tone of these bowls has a profound calming effect that is well known with this style of bowl.

The quartz is made into rods that are blown at extreme temperatures of 4000˚ F (2000˚ C). Pressurized air is used to blow the quartz into shape while rotating it on a lathe. The bowl is cut to height and the cut edge is sealed with the hydrogen flame. Featherlight Singing Bowls are known for their clear tones and long sustain. They are truly very light in comparison to the traditional frosted crystal singing bowls.

There is so much good info crystalswithpurpose’s Etsy page. The shop owner, Jenni, says that if you need help finding a specific note, tone or gemstone to email her at crystalswithpurpose@gmail.com so she can help you.

She offers gemstone infused bowls too.

Think: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Rose Quartz, Citrine, Garnet, Blue Tourmaline, Lepidolite, Carnelian, Obsidian, Sunstone.

♡ Tier 3

These beautiful & luminescent bowls emit a healing matrix of sound wherever they’re played. Creating a deep & expansive sound that will also harmonize the body’s deeper tissues & liquids.

The effects of playing classic frosted bowls in the home, office, or group settings can help ground & promote stable, peaceful energy. For instance, the highly tactile & light-filled classic white frosted bowls are evocative of ancient temples, sacred sound ceremonies, excellent for meditation, & healing practices, sounding the sweetest pure & relaxing resonances.

This Set includes 7 ascending Musical Notes from:

12″ C Root Chakra

11″ D Sacral Chakra

10″ E Solar Plexus

9″ F Heart Chakra

8″ G Throat Chakra

7″ A 3rd Eye Chakra

6″ B Crown Chakra

2 mallets & 7 rubber bases included

Basically, each of these boost the whole chakra, healing situation. They’re sort of luminescent & give you this ‘healing’ feeling whenever they’re played. I’m still learning, but you can watch this tutorial on how to do it if you decide to get them.

The sound that comes out of these bowls is such a deep, large sound that just makes you feel harmonized with your body. I know that sounds kind of crazy, but I’m telling you…these frosted white bowls will promote the most peaceful environment & fill you with so much good energy.

All about the chakras & their musical notes:

The Crown chakra is positioned at the top of the head. It is associated with cosmic awareness, highest spirituality, and complete integration with Source. The musical note is B.

The Third Eye chakra is located in the center of the forehead. It is also associated with intuition, understanding, visualization, and inner vision. The musical note is A.

The Throat chakra is positioned in the base of throat. It is associated with communication, expression and speaking one’s truth. The musical note is G.

The Heart chakra is positioned in the center of the chest, usually shown to be even with the nipple line. In addition, the heart is associated with compassion, friendship, empathy and the ability to give and receive love. The musical note is F.

The Solar Plexus chakra is located midway between the end of the breastbone and the navel. It is associated with issues of personal power, emotions (especially blocked emotions), passion for living, and the ability to protect oneself from being the target of negative or aggressive emotions. The musical note is E.

The Sacral chakra is positioned in the area between the navel and the pubic bone. Depending on which sources you read, it can be shown to be centered on the navel itself or to be aligned with the sexual organs – ovaries in women and testes in men. It is associated with creativity, sexuality, relationship, and money. The musical note is D.

♡ The Root chakra is located at the base of the spine. It is associated with issues of survival, drive, ambition, grounding one’s energy in the physical dimension, your life forces, and balancing experiences that create “fight or flight”. The musical note is C. { via }

For me, the biggest benefit is that it totally relaxes me & the whole frequency of the room changes when I play them. So if Michael pisses me off & I want to stab him, I just go bong my sound bowls.

They’re set up in my bedroom, 3 in a row, with these little black coaster things under them so they don’t roll around. In fact, they’re all lined up with their mallet & I absolutely love to play them when I wake up in the morning after opening the shades. Then at night, I turn on my salt rock lamp, the red lights & play the bowls again. In fact, it’s just the most meditative sound.

If you’re not ready for the big purchase of a frosted white set, there are also little brass Himalayan bowls you can buy too. Their sound is so amazing too.

So that’s how I’m staying zen as fuck in 2020. In fact, everyone needs this frequency right now. It’s so important to make your home & bedroom a sanctuary.

By the way, sound bowls would be SUCH good holiday gift- like, you can’t go wrong.

Ok, off to bang my bowls.
