HI HELLO WHAT’S UP!
After our podcast with Dr. Mona Vand we decided it would be fun to collaborate on one of our favorite topics: SKIN CARE. But on video!
You know it’s good because I finally met my twin who is just as obsessed with skin. I mean, she even hit a car trying to protect her skin. I’m honestly jealous.
No really, I am actually jealous.
In this video we discuss the importance of creating a routine, MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF sunscreen, facial massage, & our favorite products. REMEMBER prevention is everything. If you take care of your skin now you won’t have to fix it later. With that:

Skin always starts from the inside out & since Dr. Mona came on the podcast to talk about beauty, skin, AND wellness, I asked her for her grocery list. Here’s what she said: “This is my ‘bulk’ grocery list. I didn’t include fresh produce, apples, mixed greens, etc. The reason being, this is a big list that you don’t have to do very often, and you can keep in your house for a couple of weeks at least. The idea is that you’re never in a situation where your kitchen is empty and you have to resort to junk food. By having these things in your pantry, you will always have a healthy option. The fresh produce stuff is something you can buy on the fly, & to be honest, finding these at a farmer’s market or local grocery store is probably better quality and less expensive.”
I ASKED FOR HER VERY IN-DEPTH LIST, & SHE DELIVERED. HERE YA GO.
DR. MONA VAND’S FAVORITE GROCERIES:
Super-foods:
• Cacao
• Spirulina
• Organic dried green juice packets ( less expensive than green juice, and great for travel ). I like the brand Organifi.
Things I always have in my kitchen (these last a long time, so buy with your “bulk” groceries):
• Spices ( turmeric, cayenne, cumin, etc )
• Beans and lentils ( dry/raw, not canned )
• Nuts & seeds, raw ( hemp, flax, almonds, walnuts, etc )
• Vinegar – balsamic, red wine, and rice vinegar are my favorites
• Low sodium tomato sauce
• Almond butter ( raw, unroasted, unsalted )
◦ Apples
◦ Bananas
◦ Pears
◦ Clementines AKA ‘Cuties’
◦ Lemons / limes
◦ Frozen fruit
• Veggies that last for a while:
◦ Onions
◦ Garlic
◦ Sweet potatoes
• Tea ( it lasts such a long time, and each has it’s own benefits. Always great to have on hand ):
◦ Herbal
◦ Green
◦ Black

• Mustard
• Nutritional yeast
• Gluten-free oats
• Vegan dark chocolate
• Salad dressings ( I dilute them with lemon or lime juice, so a little bit goes a longer way). Below are my favorites ):
◦ Light Italian
◦ Light balsamic
◦ Vegan Caesar
• Sprouted Bread ( keep it in the freezer so it lasts longer and you can always have it on hand. it tastes best when toasted, so freezing won’t make any difference! )
• Vegan protein powder ( This is a must. I recommend one scoop after any kind of weight training, and it’s also an amazing addition to a meal replacement when you’re too tired or busy to cook. My favorite brands below. )
◦ Vega One
◦ Vega Sport ( higher protein, better as meal replacement )
◦ Garden of Life
• Almond or coconut milk ( some brands don’t have to be refrigerated until opened, so I always keep extra in the cupboard. When your kitchen is empty and you have nothing to eat – oatmeal or a smoothie is always an option! )
Go-To Snacks:
• Dried edamame ( ‘naked’/’unseasoned’ )
• Vegan protein bars – brand: Pegan
• Raw vegan bars – these will vary, so anything with whole ingredients/no processed sugar
• Dark chocolate – brand: Lilly’s ( it’s only sweetened with Stevia )
ALRIGHT, I hope you have really enjoyed the collaborations with Dr. Mona on the podcast & on YouTube. Make sure you listen to her episode– it’s a good one.

I needed this post today! I actually listened to your podcast with Mona yesterday and was thinking last night about how many good skin tips she had, so I was so happy to log on this morning to see this more in-depth post/video! Ever since starting birth control when I was like 18, my skin has been so acne prone and now that my husband and I are trying to have kids, I obviously stopped taking it and my skin has been trying to adjust to that, so I’m currently in the process of developing a new skin routine that works for me WITHOUT hormones (thank goodness). So thank you so much for this!
Thats amazing! So glad you found this podcast helpful, thanks for the support. x
Just on time! My skin became so terribly bad in the past couple of weeks and I just don’t know what’s happened… It used to be fairly good with no extra care and now it’s just a mess. Thank you so much for this post!

Awesome tips! Wondering about malodextrin in the Light Italian dressing. I’m severely sensitive to MSG. It literally makes me pass out. This sounds similar.
I tried the sunscreen you recommended and I really really liked it. Unfortunately, I had to switch it out because I realized it contains oxybenzones and octinoxate. Those type chemicals are not only responsible for massive coral reef die off, but they are bad for our skin. When they react with the sunlight, the resulting chemicals damage our natural antioxidants. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022202X15424960
Consider researching this and finding a good physical blockade sunscreen that contains zinc oxide. Chemical UV blockers tend to oxidize and do weird things with our skin. This is my favourite zinc sunscreen right now. I am so sad because I really like the other one and it seems so good for the skin, but after reading a bit, I just feel like its safer to not. https://www.amazon.com/Tinted-Facial-Sunscreen-Protection-Foundation/dp/B01N81AV6S/ref=sr_1_6_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1515420655&sr=1-6&keywords=beauty+by+earth+facial+sunscreen
That garden of life vegan protein is amazing. It has great probiotics and made me feel so good
Agreed, love that protein. x
The calm magnesium stuff is also very anti-aging because every DNA repair enzyme needs magnesium
Amazing, thanks for letting me know Kelsey! x
Looooveee the skin care tip! I needed this in my life! Thank you❤️
Absolutely LOVED reading this! Nutrition plays such a huge roll in attaining healthier skin, and many women are so unaware of that. Thank you for sharing! xxx

Great video! Love all the tips & products. After cleansing with oil & regular cleanser, what is the order of products you use? Serum, then..? I’m confused! Could you break it down or list exactly what products in order? Thanks 🙂
I go: serum, oil, then lotion & eye cream.
Hi Lauryn! I found you through Dr.Mona Vand. I love love love all your content. How do you feel about birth control? I have read that it keeps you young, because it causes water retention. I feel like it’s made my hair thin out throughout the years and I have mild acne.
Loved your this episode. Love your skin care tips. Thanks for sharing. here some tips about skin care https://www.brightbeautytips.com/take-care-skin-30-home/
Hey! Love your YouTube channel! I went through a binge watching session that you mentioned a great book to read about skin care or facial massage, but can’t seem to find the video again. Know what book I’m referring to?
Hey Sharokina! Here ya go.
What cacao brand do you recommend for the quinoa oatmeal Dr. Vaid spoke about?
Great piece of information over here.
In my point of view, Aloe Vera gel is the best remedy for flawless skin. Aloe Vera gel reduces dark spots and scars and evens out the skin tone. It also moisturizes the skin, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, and heals the damaged skin.
