Shock Your Taste Buds With This Vanilla Frapp

It all started in line.

The line that wrapped around the block ( but not really ) at Starbucks this morning.

Three people in front of me order caramel .

Mmmkay…

And then to make matters worse a ten year-ish boy in back of me orders a strawberry CRAPPuccino.

IS THIS REAL LIFE?

Usually I would whistle, advert my eyes elsewhere, & act like I heard nothing but today was different.

Different because…I just can’t.

To tell you the truth, I’m surprised Frappuccinos are even legal. They’re honestly filled with so many nasty-ass GMO’s/chemicals that I’m shocked they don’t use Frapps as car fuel…actually- false, I’m surprised they’re not used as rat poison.

Ok, so today I’m taking a stance against Frappuccinos.

After sweating & perspiring ( wouldn’t you if four people in line casually ordered a Frappuccino? ), I ran ( ran, ran ) to the local health food store & stocked up on TSC Frapp essentials:

The Skinny Confidential shares a Frappacino recipe.

1.} 1 packet of vanilla chia Vega plant based protein powder

2.} 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

3.} A couple shakes of pumpkin pie spice

4.} 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

5.} 1/2 banana

6.} 1 splash of organic vanilla extract

7.} 2 tablespoons of chia seeds ( FIBER!!! )

Directions: add a handful of ice & blend. Add a cute pixy straw to sex it up.

Phew!!!

Soooo glad to get that off my chest.

This drink is seriously amazing if you’re in a pinch & need something filling ( << the chia seeds x the 15 grams of protein really get the job done ).

And promise, you won’t miss Frappuccinos at all.

What’s your favorite blended drink? I’ll try to post a TSC version!

Happy Thursday,

xx L

P.S. add peppermint extract for a pop of mint! x.

  1. It’s not the prettiest drink but it sounds yummy, and so healthy. I need more healthy versions in my life. Personally I love chai lattes. I’m aware they are full of sugar, so I rarely indulge. A healthy version of those would be amazing. (I’d drink it daily) xx

  2. Thanks for posting this recipe! Honestly I love McDonald’s shamrock shakes but never order them because I just can’t deal with myself afterward haha. I’ve tried a couple at home “clean” versions, but none have been too impressive to me. Any ideas?!

  3. I can’t wait to try. You always manage to enlighten my world with yummylicious things. I love fraps and haven’t had one in years due to sugar and calories alone. I love your blog it’s always exposing me to a better world

  4. Lately I have been making at home mocha frappes with
4 oz Seaworth organic cold brew
4 oz unsweetened original almond milk (making sure it is without carrageenan)
    1/2 frozen banana
1 tblspn of Jems raw hazelnut cacao butter

(when I’m having an extra sweet tooth kinda day I add a little drizzle of Seaworth’s Organic Coconut Syrup)

  5. Lauren, this is a fantastic post. Love the name “Crappuccino”! My favorite blended frap alternative is very similar to the one you posted:

    1 c. of almond milk
    1 shot of coffee
A tiny spoonful of cocoa powder
    1 drop of vanilla extract
    1 scoop of protein powder
    Handful of ice

And if I feel on the wild side and that I deserve a special treat, that a small dollop of Nutella might go into the blender as well.

    Thanks for sharing this recipe!

  6. Lately I’ve been addicted to toffee latte cappucinos from the gas station (i knowww awful) but sooo good! any healthy swaps for that glorious toffee flavor?

  7. Why do they even call them Frappuccinos? They are milkshakes. Let’s face the facts. Now, I love a good milkshake as much as the next guy but it doesn’t mean you order it as a drink. It’s dessert! I love me some pie but it doesn’t mean I get one to go for the drive to work. Sigh. I feel ya girl.

  8. I love love loveeeee chai tea lattes (esp. iced!!!) but they are so fattening at starbucks (with nasty chemicals I’m sure) would love a post on that!!! xx

  9. I work at a local organic juice bar and we make faux fraps like this all the time! I like to add a shot of espresso too! Love to see you spreading healthy yummy secrets like this!

  10. For all the people who are asking about healthy chai lattes, lately I’ve just been getting the chai tea bag, add 2 shots of espresso bc I like the caffiene, then add in my own almond milk and sweetener! That way it’s much healthier and around 50 cals if even that much

  11. Yum yum yum!! This sounds AMAZING! The amount of crap they put in those frapps is wicked gross, haven’t had one since high school

  12. I love the more chocolaty version of this! I have (1) cup of cold coffee, (2) bananas, splash of homemade almond milk with (1) scoop of chocolate vega protein powder. Blend it up with some ice and you get your sweets fix with out all the nasty additives! And great for after an intense workout for recovery!

  13. I’d like to try this one day soon. I admit that I really like the strawberry frap at Starbucks but I know it’s sooooo not good. While I can try to convince myself that I don’t buy it because it’s unhealthy the truth is that what keeps me from buying it is the ridiculous price. If it were cheaper who knows what would happen. So all this to say, have you got any healthy strawberry frap alternatives for me? 🙂 I’m trying to embrace the healthier lifestyle but sometimes I’m weak.

  14. Great recipe, love the benefits of the chia seeds! My spin on this, because I have a small dependency on caffeine, is instead of regular ice I made coffee cubes and added them to the blender. It’s super easy–a cup of coffee poured into a flexible ice tray. The tray I use is actually a mold for cake pops, bigger cubes and easy to remove!

  15. Just found your blog. Cannot wait to try this because yes I’m guilty of frap ordering at SB. They’re soooo good…. I’m trying to eat real food & be healthier. Baby steps right??

  16. I love the cafe vanilla frapps! I actually prefer my morning coffee black so I’ve always justified it because I only get maybe one a month as a treat but I know they’re bad! I’m thinking if I added a shot of chilled espresso to your recipe, it would be close! Thanks for this!

  17. dear lauryn,
i literally tried this frappucino the next day & i loved it but look what i just found,
i had to share this one with you !!!

i mean its crazy if there would be antibiotics in it or some chemical, but i still think it might be better than all the non-vegan versions of chemical protein or nutritional shakes but i really hope you read it!!
<3 keep it up!! follower since the start& ongoing !
