The best ambience/sushi in San Diego? Katsuya by SBE. It turns out, this restaurant made it entirely possible for me to become even more addicted to sushi, miso soup, & edamames. Recently my BFF, Steve & I walked over [ it’s down the street from us- yay cocktails {!!!} ] for dinner & drinks. Normally, I am a beer/wine/homemade cocktail kind of girl, but I decided to give Katsuya’s drink list a try. I ordered the “Burning Mandarin,” which was a spicy, jalapeño-infused martini with no overbearing sweetness. This restaurant is a must if you’re ever in the area!
+ Quick skinny tip: sushi is incredibly easy to modify. Have fun with it. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not have brown rice or cucumber wrapped rolls [ <<<<< if possible, try sushi with both of these ], however they did have a fab veggie roll! I love to get edamames with no salt & low-sodium soy sauce, cucumber salads, miso soup [ protein!!! ], & the 96 calorie Sapproro Light beer.
Pick the roll you like & modify it with light sauce, no cream cheese, extra avocado/jalapenos, shredded carrots, and/or no mayo. Try to stay away from fried food too. For more sushi tips, click here.

Obsessed with Katsuya, I used to go all the time in Hollywood but haven’t been here yet. Double date! Xo.
Wow, really makes me want to dine there tonight/soon!!!!
You have to try it!
Looks yummy!
Thanks Anita!
I will definitely try this place! My parents have a house in San Diego, and we visit pretty often. I will be sure to stop by Katsuya next time we are in the area! Do you have any other SD area restaurant recommendations? (a personal FAVORITE of mine is Bernini’s in La Jolla — their salmon avocado salad is TO DIE FOR!)
With love,
Erica
