Well, hi.
Just in time for summer, this post is very necessary. A QUESTION I get frequently, one that slides into my DMs is: HOW DO YOU APPLY SUNSCREEN WHEN YOU HAVE MAKEUP ON? As a total SPF psycho, it’s shocking that I didn’t have an easy answer.
It’s a hard question. For a while I did the whole sunscreen powder thing but I felt like my makeup was flaking off a bit & it just gave me this dull look. You guys know I’m all about DEWY.
I’ve also done the old reapply sunscreen move on top of my make up. But that’s no fun- especially because it screws up my makeup & gets your hands messy if you’re on the go & don’t have a beautyBlender on you. HOWEVER a while back I discovered sunscreen MIST.
THAT’S RIGHT, MIST.
Doesn’t something about the word ‘mist’ make you feel whimsical? I love it. Anyway, moving right along. Let’s get into the whole mist thing, K?
Sunscreen Mist: How to Reapply Sunscreen When You Have Makeup on
A SPF mist is ideal for touching up throughout the day- one that you can throw in your bag & GO. Of course I like to use sunscreen first ( not a mist ), then apply the makeup, & go. Always love a caffeinated sunscreen & more recently been trying this Bliss Block Star one & LOVE. But later in the day around 2 pm- the mist is IDEAL. In fact, it’s perfect. You can even mist your neck, chest, shoulders- you know I go crazy & even do my arms.
Well sometimes. Not yesterday. Yesterday I was wearing driving gloves. But that’s a different story for a different day?
A few years ago I made a little video about this, & full disclosure, I was using SUPERGOOP’s Setting Mist at the time. After digging around lately though, it looks like they’ve reformulated it & the product is now called Re-Setting Mist. I haven’t tried it, but the reviews are not so great. Sorry to say.
Ok, so the video tutorial is still a great step-by-step on how to apply sunscreen without fucking up your makeup. But we’ll get into a list of new mists that could totally work for this too.

So those are some options that I found for you with great reviews & SPF 30 or more. As I said, I haven’t tried any of these yet but they all look like good options. Bonus points if one of these is scented – perfect for those you who don’t love deodorant ( ME!!! ). But if you have sensitive skin definitely avoid a scent.
I HOPE THIS POST WILL REMIND YOU ONCE AGAIN: to bring the sunscreen situation down. So many women cover their faces but forget their chest! Hands! Neck! Arms! Boobs! YOU GUYS THIS IS WHY I WROTE GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE SUN. I am a big fan of applying sunscreen everywhere. Like I even went as far as tinting my car windows. I wear this obnoxious face mask in Cabo. If I need some light I still wear a big hat or visor & stay in the shade as much as I can. Let’s be preventative right?!

I used to be into the spray sunscreens, but after doing some research, found out that while the ingredients are safe for your skin, they can be really harmful if you breathe them in. So make sure you hold your breath whilst spraying 🙂

I never apply sunscreen because I always think it is so dull in Britain that I don’t need it – never have I been more wrong and this has really inspired me to get on it! Lovin’ the youtube videos, I’m definitely into them and look forward to them every time! Can’t wait to get my mist on!

Hey girlfriend, thanks for the awesome post!! I love the Supergoop mist, and have also been obsessed with the Coola Makeup Setting Spray lately too! It’s a kickass multitasker for both sunscreen AND finishing your look. It also feels AH-MAZING after you spray it on because it has cucumber and aloe to cool ya off 🙂 My makeup doesn’t budge after I use this gem!
