The Skinny Confidential shares her tips for olive oil ice cubes.

That’s right, you hurrd. Olive.oil.ice.cubes.

These aren’t like, ice cubes to casually throw in your passion fruit tea though.

These are special, magical ice cubes that will make your hectic, crazed life easier.

Because that’s what TSC is all about…making YOUR life easier.

Life’s hard enough already, thanks.

Anyway. Back to these weird-ass ice cubes.

The Skinny Confidential shares her tips for olive oil ice cubes.

Here’s a lil back story: I have this seriously bizarre obsession with spaghetti squash. I eat it allllll the time. My friends will call me on a Monday night & they’re all, “what up?” And per usual I’ll reply “just cooking spaghetti squash, e-mailing, & watching Real Housewives.”

Cooking spaghetti squash is my thing. I add a bunch of arugula underneath it ( fills ya up, big time! ), pile on the squash, & add a little Rao’s super spicy arrabbiata sauce with lemon, chili flake, a sprinkle of fresh parm, & some fresh basil..superrrrr satisfying.

Ok, wait, I’m off topic ( WTF’s new though? ).

So the problem?

Whelp, the herbs, der.

Think about it: if I’m cooking spaghetti squash three to four times a week like an OCD weirdo, I want fresh herbs.

Not some canned shit that’s labeled McCormick. I want balls-to-the-walls, real deal basil. In fact, sometimes I’ll even buy a little, cutie basil plant…because why the hell not?

Sadly fresh herbs go bad. & they go bad fast.

This is where the olive oil ice cubes come in.

When cooking my spaghetti squash, I like to heat the Rao’s sauce up with a little olive oil. So by freezing the herbs in the olive oil ice cubes, I preserve my herbs longer & don’t have to worry about them turning a nasty color.

See? They’re still pretty green.

And since I’m always one to add a little flare, I threw in some pomegranate seeds ( antioxidants!!! ). Pome seeds rock my world & I love them on EVERYTHING. Pasta, salad, oatmeal, sparkling water, etc.

Ready For Your World To Be Rocked? EVOO Ice Cubes. Yupppp.I’ve used my ice cubes for salad dressing ( they just need to be warmed ) & on pizza ( POME seeds x a tad EVOO x basil?!!! OMG ). Do whatever your little heart desires with these magic cubes.

Directions: grab some non-GMO, organic EVOO, a handful of fresh pomegranate seeds, & diced basil ( it’s up to you on how much; get crazy ) & throw it all in a silicon ice cube holder…wait a few hours…& you’re golden.

  1. Seriously, you are a girl after my own heart lol I just told my coworker about my obsession with spaghetti squash and how I buy the stuff in bulk at whole foods. Never thought of doing this to preserve herbs, but can’t wait to give it a try this weekend!

  2. OMG. brilliant! I almost never buy fresh herbs because they go bad so quickly. I hate feeling like I’m throwing money away when food goes bad. This is such a good idea!!

  3. This is such a cool idea! Freaking genius! I am totally going to be doing this soon — maybe doing some frozen coconut oil and mint together would be cool for smoothies!

  4. I love making these! I do the same since they are so great for cooking. I sometimes make ones with cilantro and lime as well! Pome seeds though is def new to me and I need to try that! Thanks for the great read 🙂

  5. OMG MIND BLOWN. I’m going to start doing this all the time now in order to use fresh herbs instead of my dried up Trader Joe’s ones. YAY! Thank you soo much girl!

  6. Just don’t use parsley in your ice cubes. They have certain soil bacteria which produce toxins, and they can make you very sick! Some of the soil bacteria can not be cooked away, so they will survive! Always use fresh parsley!

  7. For convenience you can buy herbs, garlic, and onions chopped and frozen like that…it’s an Israeli brand and since I’m far away from my freezer (like 150 miles away, lol) I can’t get the name for you. Trader Joes also sells frozen fresh herbs. Super convenient especially for us east coasters who like to taste summer all year!

  8. This is so cool!!!!

Hoe did you come up with this?

I have the same problem with herbs going bad and hating dried sht., plus the love for EVOO.

I will definitely give it a try tonight and will try with different herbs. I’m sure it will turn out as cool as it sound!

    Thanks!

  9. I have a garden and love saving my fresh herbs in oil ice cubes. I throw mine in the food processor first, though. Then I add a little olive oil while the processor is chopping… It makes a rough pesto. That way you can pack more herbs with less oil into your cube trays! Sometimes I will add garlic or nuts too. I love using them to make my egg whites in the morning. I have never tried pomegranite seeds… But I will now!
