Peel Pads ALL DAY, EVERYDAY

WOOO WOOO WOOO WOOO….!!!

Am I fired up for this post OR WHAT?

Sure I had an espresso shot or three but that’s neither here nor there- the real reason I’m tapping my toe is because HELLO PEEL PADS.

Durrr.

Don’t know what peel pads are? Well I’m about to rock your world.

If you’re into our podcast you know EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE because of my ride or die friend & skin expert, Dr. Dennis…who happens to be the creator of these pads.

Here’s the thing: no one is paying me to say this. I just really like them. I like them so much they get their own blog post. Speaking of liking stuff so much: I am working on creating a TSC MASTER LIST of all my absolute favorites. Favorites that I keep coming back to. Favorites that everyone needs. So stay tuned & please comment below if you have specific products you want me to feature.

Ok tangent.com today. Moving right along, PEEL PADS.

To back track, you may have heard of Dr. Dennis through the post I did on FACIAL STEAMERS. Remember that one? Basically I talked all about why I just fucking love my facial steamer. Anyway- these peel pads are the perfect addition to your skin care routine. And you know, it’s kind of one of those things that you try & YOU JUST LOVE IMMEDIATELY.

As you know I’m a huge fan of SKIN. Skin is in. It’s so cool to lead with skin I feel. Like instead of makeup, let your skin lead. Nothing better than plump, dewy, youthful skin. AND THESE PEEL PADS ARE SO WORTH IT. Like screw shoes- I’ll take the pads!

With that, I’ll let Dr. Dennis Gross himself break down the peel pad situation for you:

WHAT DO PEELS DO?

Resurrect radiance, reduce wrinkles, & refine pores ( YES PLZ?! ).

WHY ARE PEELS IMPORTANT?

A gentle peel is one of the best things you can do for your skin – the newest formulations offer great results without causing irritation. Every skin type can benefit from a peel. Peels aren’t just about exfoliation – they are about changing your pH to help rev-up collagen production. The fresh layer of skin that’s revealed after peeling is able to absorb vitamins, antioxidants, anti-aging, and soothing ingredients more effectively because the dead surface cells that can inhibit product absorption are removed. So much builds up on the surface of the skin – dead cells, bacteria, cosmetics, serum – and the peel gently detaches these cells, leaving healthy cells intact, ready to absorb your other skin care products.

WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD I LOOK FOR?

Peels containing alpha and beta hydroxy acids are an anti-aging staple because they provide both instant and long-term results. The best alpha and beta hydroxy peels contain more than one acid and are delivered in two steps. The key is to blend acids because it has a different benefit and will help improve the complexion better than using a highly concentrated glycolic peel. These acids immediately remove old, dull skin, exfoliate, rejuvenate, brighten. In the long-term, they help to even skin tone and smooth texture, making the complexion appear younger and more radiant.

WILL PEELS HELP IMPROVE ACNE?

Peels can be great for clearing acne — the chemical exfoliation step kills acne-causing bacteria. In my practice, we offer medical facials to address breakouts. The protocol is to steam the skin, extract, peel and moisturize. As the peel exfoliates, it also keeps acne-causing bacteria from re-entering the pore.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I EXFOLIATE?

I recommend to my patients to incorporate a once-a-day, gentle, two-step chemical peel with a blend of alpha and beta hydroxy acids into their at-home regimen. If you want to use these acids to their best advantage, the key is to blend multiple acids together. It is far better to use a gentle treatment on a regular basis rather than applying a harsh acid in one concentrated treatment.

HOW DO I PREP FOR AN AT-HOME PEEL?

Cleanse routinely and avoid physical scrubs or using wash cloths, which might be too harsh. Always apply a peel to thoroughly cleansed skin to allow the ingredients to penetrate effectively. Avoid washing with excessively hot water which can create redness and don’t rinse after either step.

WHAT ABOUT POST-PEEL?

Peels should be applied first, followed by serums, moisturizers, and makeup. Avoid the use of toners afterwards, which can be drying. There is no downtime following use of my cruelty-free peel pads– they are gentle enough to use daily, and in conjunction with other skin care treatments.

I really like his Vitamin C serum– it’s delicious. Makes your skin all plump. And then of course you know I love my oils always, a lot of sunscreen, light masks, pimple cream, & TONS OF FACIAL MASSAGE!! On the podcast Dr. Dennis talks about the importance of Vitamin C– which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you listen to for maintaining that youthful, pretty skin.

You can find the peel pads here– I started with the originals. Don’t mean to brag but now I’ve moved up to the extra-strength. DON’T BE JEALOUS! You’ll get there, I promise- & it will be worth every second.

Enjoy- these are so good. Definitely will be part of The Skinny Confidential Master List. Off to yoga after IG LIVE– see you there! 5 pm PST every Wednesday.

SKIN IS SO IN:

  1. I love Dr. Gross! I’m currently using the gentle peel pads and will move up to original strength when I run out of these. My question is- can I put retinol on after using the peel pads?

Also, I highly recommend the Dr. Gross Hyaluronic Marine mask. It’s an incredibly hydrating mask that’s BRIGHT BLUE and is soooo satisfying to peel off.

    1. Hey girl,

I’m pretty sure it’s safe to use a retinol after, but you should wait at least 30 min to let the ingredient of the peel pad really sink one. One thing my esthetician told me was to alternate, and do the peel pads every other night, with the retinol in between. I built up to using the extra strength pads (and use them every other night) and then when i added my retinol back to the mix, i started with the retinol just one night on the first week (not on a night i did the peel pad), then the second week i did the retinol two times (again, alternating nights with the peel pad), then the third week i did the retinol three times that week etc. etc. I found that worked really well for me and didn’t irritate my skin.

Last tip! there’s another blog (beautyeditor.ca) and she has lots of articles on how to layer active ingredients, so that’s a good resource too!

    2. Shelby- Thank you sooo much, that’s exactly the info I was looking for. Last night I ended up doing the ultra gentle peel followed by Skinceuticals 0.5 retinol and topped it off with moisturizer, waiting about 30 minutes between all 3 steps. I will definitely alternate days when I increase the intensity of the peel pads and will for sure check out the blog you recommended. XO!

  2. I started using these peel pads after your interview with Dr. Dennis Gross on the podcast. I LOVE them, my skin feels so tight and glowy all day after I use them (:

  3. I couldn’t agree more!! I never had great skin, and at 29 I just had an awakening. I bought a box of these pads and after a few uses my skin totally changed! After finishing the first pack I switched to extra strength and added in vitamin C serum, which was a game changer as well. For the first time ever I’m actually happy with my skin and I never thought I’d be able to say that!

  4. Thank you so much for posting this, Lauryn! I NEED these in my life! My birthday is this weekend and I think I just found a giftie to request from my sweet hubby. 😉 Your tips and insight are so appreciated, as always! Can’t wait to see the TSC Master List and please keep the goodies like this amazing product coming. I am especially interested in any and all worthy beauty finds that are cruelty-free – just like these pads from Dr. Dennis!!

  5. Ladies if you only follow one tippety tip from Lauryn let it be THIS ONE. I wish I took before and after shots because in only 4 days of using the extra strength pads + vitamin C serum (go for it, my skin is ultra sensitive and I had 0 issues) my forehead wrinkles dramatically decreased. Like I went from on the verge of getting botox to feeling like I didn’t need it at all. This shit is AMAZE

  6. Thank you sooo much for this article! Some much valuable information that I learned and can’t wait to start incorporating some of these products!!

  7. I have sensitive skin so I just used the sensitive one for the first time today. Should I have started with the universal one?

  8. I find your language so unprofessional. It’s not becoming. You should consider your viewers and how you are being preceived. It’s not lady like.
