Shrink Your Muffin Top for Summer

Lauryn Evarts, fitness and health blogger with skinny tips and tricks on how to help you lose weight.

In the latest issue of US Weekly they did an article on “Foods That Whittle Your Middle,” which I wanted to pass along to all of you! Summer is around the corner and while I know everyone is busy, it’s important to fuel the body properly & eat healthfully. This article broke it down in a clear, concise way with foods that I am sure most of you have in your fridge [ at least, I hope you do ; ) ]:

+ Grapefruit: it’s filled with water & fiber. Eating half a grapefruit with meals promotes weight loss. As seen above, I add flaxseed to my grapefruit with a dash of Stevia to enhance the taste.

+ Spinach: it’s seven cals a cup [ uncooked ]! Spinach has tons of folate which lowers your stress hormones [ <<<< that makes you gain weight in your mid section- you want as low stress hormones as possible ]. Add it to smoothies like this oneΒ too.

+ Eggs [ cage free ]: they contain B12, which is an energizing vitamin that helps boost the metabolism & burn fat. Protein also keeps you full.

+ Chili Pepper/Flakes: I die over spicy food- it’s my favorite. Add these to hummus, salsas, pizza, etc. to spark the metabolism & increase calorie burning.

+ Dark Chocolate: the perfect dessert in moderation & a healthy fat [ other healthy fats: avocado, olive oil, nuts, & olives ].

++ Extra foods that shrink that annoying muffin-y looking crap that hangs over the jeans: Greek yogurt [ it’s filling ], berries [ loaded with fiber ], & pineapple [ eliminates bloat ].

  1. i love this post! i am always looking for ways to lose the muffin top! your blog is adorable & you are so pretty! glad i found it! xo

  2. Dark chocolate is a great suggestion and loaded with antioxidants as well. Whenever I get a craving for chocolate I melt a little sugar free dark chocolate in the microwave and dip a ripe banana in it, which sweetens it up nicely too. Delicious, nutritious, easy and filling!

I’ts good they mentioned bloating. A bloated stomach can add inches to your waistline so it really is important to know what foods, like pineapple, help to eliminate it.

  3. That smoothie looks like a good trick to know. Question though, could you add protein powder or would that lead to a weird taste/consistency/eliminate the purpose?

  4. I have spent all morning and now the start of my afternoon*sorry work* on your blog. I absolutely love it! Such wonderful content!! Very happy I found you on Eat yourself skinny πŸ™‚

  5. I’m not a big fan of grapefruit at all, but lately I’ve heard people talking about grilled grapefruit, which apparently caramelizes the natural sugars, maybe I’ll have to give it a shot now…

  6. Hey! Love this blog, quick question: in the pic above with grapefruit and flax seeds, the seeds are not ground up. I’ve been told flax seeds need to be ground up (I grind mine in a coffee bean grinder), in order to process through your body properly, thoughts?
