        { quick attempt at a 4th of July cake }
Currently: in bed, watching Damages, blogging ON MY IPHONE. I can’t find my computer charger anywhereeee so oh well, I’ll update you guys through my phone. Please forgive any typos. This was quite literally ‘sent from my iPhone.’ Sound fun?
I have a bunch of thoughts on this post & don’t know where to begin, so I guess I’ll start with this: as you know I’ve been down on my ass for a month straight. The surgery I had has been a super intense recovery because it was bone surgery. On my face. I’m healing…but it’s certainly a process.Â
Quite honestly when I booked the surgery my ego was involved. I thought “oh I’ll heal faster than this 8 week recovery timeline, I’ll juice & take arnica & exercise & just kill it…”Â
Well. That’s cute but the body heals how the body wants to heal & let’s just say it’s taking time. It’s taking patience. And it’s not going as quick as I anticipated.
But!!! That’s ok.Â
Because I’m looking at this fun-filled summer of healing as a lesson. Lesson 1? PATIENCE.
I’ll keep you updated along the way…because there’s about 3727261 more lessons to be learned from this experience.Â
{ oil diffuser…that I’m SO excited to blog about— stay tuned }
{ TSC bookmarks make reading pretty }
On another note, let’s talk about boredom! A bunch of amazing friends have texted me & said “are you SO bored?”
No.
I’m not bored.
In fact, what inspired this post is I’ve never been bored. I can’t remember the last time I even said “I’m bored.”
The feelings I’ve felt through this experience are far from boredom. Some being depressed, annoyed, anxious, calm, frustrated, weak, tired, shocked, relieved, inspired, fragile, motivated, upset.
No boredom though.
Even though I’m on my ass, there’s so much to do still: read, write, cook, clean, plan, email, talk, hang out with my dogs, etc.
{ lately on Instagram | dress here // lipstick here }
I guess the point of this post is: are you bored?
If so, why?
What’s boring you?
Also, from your perspective: should I be bored? Is it weird I’m not bored being locked in my house, having so much downtime? Maybe feeling bored is good for you?
The whole feeling of being bored just confuses me. There’s so much to do! So much to read! So much to talk about!
Being bored…is boring.
Thoughts?
Hope you guys enjoyed my iPhone rant.
Off to eat strawberry ice cream ( this is totally acceptable at 11 pm when your mouth is banded shut, k ). X

Love how you don’t get bored…I find that I am incredibly productive when I am healing from something like this. It forces me to sit down and work on things when normally I would rather be on the go! Thanks for all your positive inspiration 🙂
I feel like I’m constantly too stressed to be bored, there is always something that can get done. Hope you’re starting to feel better!

I love this perspective! Thanks for sharing and helping shift my mind from “I’m bored” to “Am I bored? What could I be doing?”
I totally agree! I don’t ‘get’ boredom. I always have something I want to do, or learn, or create. If I’m done doing one thing, it’s on to the next!
I once heard,”Only boring people are bored”. With that said, you are so fabulous, love all your realness!
I always say the same thing! Really don’t understand boredom. There’s not enough hours in a day if anything. I think perhaps boredom happens to people who stop dreaming. This all might also stem from me being an only child, entertaining myself, ie: playing board games alone hah.
Sending you healing energy and a little bit of recovery progress everyday.
Ps: you’re killing it and are an inspiration. Don’t ever change.
Great post!!:) I can so relate because recently I’ve been having to learn about patience too… I’m known for being kind of impatient, I want to get things done and have results right away! Needless to say things in life do take time, so I’ve been having to learn to be patient and go with the flow.
I, too, am obsessed with my yl diffuser. Get better soon xo
Hate boredom 😛 but lately I’ve been on my feet for so long!
This post couldn’t have come at a better time. I am between jobs and just waiting on the new one to start. I have been finding myself complaining about being bored. You’ve inspired me to go, do things, and just enjoy the silence. Thank you.
I’m glad this resonated. : ) x
A great reflective post! Thanks for being so candid on here!

Your quick attempt at a fourth of july cake turned out gorgeous! I love how you style all of your food!
Makeda
Thank you! It was box cake ; )
You know, I don’t understand how you can be bored either. There are literally not enough hours in the day to read books and just get shit done. And can I add one more rant? k. People are always amazed that I haven’t had cable tv for YEARS and that I don’t watch shows. What is so hard to believe about that? I fill my brain with knowledge & read when I have time to spare. k /rant
Feel better babe & glad you’re keeping busy! xo Annie

I love that you don’t have cable! How is it? Is it hard? Thanks for the kind words Annie! x
Hi Lauryn,
I’m totally feeling you there. I injured my foot last year, and the following months were emotionally and physically trying. At the worse I was forced to spend weeks on bed rest, couldn’t stand long enough to do much more than reheat food for months and at times it was too painful to even sit in a chair. I binge watched Scandal, HTGAWM, House of Cards, MasterChef, Sense 8, House Hunters, House Hunters International … This for a girl that usually only watched television while in a hotel room… When my cabin fever got out of control my hubby would pull the car out front, and I would sit in the above ground parking while he did the groceries. Change of scenery! woo woo!
But if I have to look at things on the bright side, I’d say that gained a lot from the process. I’m certainly more appreciative of my health. I’m more aware of the challenges people with disabilities face. And I’m even more grateful for/to my patient husband! Through Sickness and Health! …
Good to luck to you. You’ll get there sooner or later. Listen to your body and give yourself time too heal.
xoxo,
Thea Mrs. Flirty Foodie
This was so sweet. It’s so nice to have a strong teammate. x
Great post….I’m inclined to believe that people that are bored are boring people. It is an easy fix. Attitude adjustment….make living life fun!!!
: ) xx
I think its awesome that you don’t get bored. Sounds like bliss!
Boredom for me is a state that is brought on by not being challenged, motivated, or participating in activities that are aligned with interests.
Currently, I am SWAMPED at work. Like, can’t keep my head above water and drowning in an ever growing project list. But, I am bored to death. DEATH. The duties and responsibilities are unchallenged and really mundane. (Yes I totally know, it’s clearly time for a career change)
Anyway my point is, I think the lack of boredom and not even truly understanding the concept of it, is great! Sounds like you surround yourself with projects that interest you and are self aware enough to continually challenge yourself.
Being bored is completely boring. Kudos to you that you are staying engaged and as active as possible even during challenging moments.
I do get bored. I love having lots of energy, but boredom strikes when my body is tired and can’t keep up or my mind is zonked from a long week…that’s when I feel bored b/c I’m not doing things that stimulate me.
I’ll keep this post near for inspiration on things to do!
XO,
Catherine
Try listening to a podcast, I’ve been super in to it lately!
Happy to hear you don’t get bored. I am the same way, there isn’t enough time in the day to do all the things I want. I get pretty annoyed by people who complain of being bored too (looking at you husband!), I wish I had more friends who kept busy.
Lauryn! You are absolutely too incredible! I’ve been traveling the last few days and noticed a huge boom in sales for my Beautiful Day Planner. I had no clue why until I sat down on my computer to catch up on some fave blogs this morning. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you are enjoying it! I hope your recovery is getting easier, and you can start feeling like yourself again soon. I totally know where you are coming from on not being bored. I first took the plunge to set up my business when I was on sick leave from my full time job for a few days after getting my wisdom teeth out. Feel better fast! xoxo
Such a big fan of yours- goodspeed on your recovery! I had the same surgery when I was 17, and while I was out and about after 6 weeks, I would say it took a full 6 months for my face to ‘settle’ (although at 17 I was clearly still growing and changing anyway!) Hang in there, ice, and continue all your healthy habits and AMAZING work.
Ahhh thank you Tatum! The recovery for this is GNARLYYYY. I would love to talk more with you about your surgery. What’s your e-mail? x
Being bored is a concept a business owner will never understand another day in their life. Since I became one myself I’ve never NOT had something to do. There’s always something to do, to learn, to see . . . so no, I don’t think it’s weird at all!
