The deeper into my twenties, the stronger the epiphanies.

Lately it seems I’ve had an epiphany every other week. I mean, seriously I’ll get that feeling of “aha!” during the strangest times.

Whether it’s eliminating a toxic friendship, realizing a certain trend doesn’t work for me ( hello bandeau dresses! Ouch! ) finding ways to manage my time better, &/or recognizing the importance of appreciating the small/tiny/little things.

Emphasis on: seeing the importance of appreciating the small things.

Some of the small things I’ve been really enjoying? The sound of my garden fountain while making breakfast, doing something nice for someone else, stretching, a cold/refreshing drink, listening to Brazilian music throughout the day, using my new popcorn machine, watching Mad Men in bed, cooking, clean sheets, lighting lavender candles around the house to promote zen vibes, sleeping in on a Sunday ( delicious, right?! ), spending more quality time with inspiring people, cinnamon in my daily espresso shot, &/or walking Pixy mid workday.

Basically taking it down a freaking notch.

Life will grab you by the balls if you don’t sit back & take it all in once in a while, ya know?

Naturally I’m a very OCD, type-A kinda girl, so taking it down a peg does my body good.

Because WTF is life about if you don’t appreciate the lil things? We tend to get so caught up in picking an Instagram filter, working, &/or what’s happening tomorrow, next week, or next month.

I want to focus on today.

On that note, what are some small things you take time to appreciate?

Tell, tell.

xx. L

  1. Good for you! You deserve some R&R. Lately I have really appreciated my yoga classes and grocery shopping. I know this is so weird, but reading food labels and picking produce really relaxes me.

    1. I live in Miami and lately the weather has been AMAZING! I have really enjoyed working outside on my balcony for a few hours out of the day to get a little change of scenery and fresh air. It’s awesome.

  2. Thank you for this reminder to appreciate the small things in life. Those “a-ha!” moments are certainly powerful. The small things I focus on lately are the beautiful weather, walks with my dog, my body’s ability to do Pilates and other workouts, and of course quality family/friend time. No time for drama or toxic people in life, for sure.

  3. You’re so right – enjoying the small things is a must! Summer weather always helps me slow down a bit and get outside more. It’s so worth it! Xo, S

  4. After spending most of my 20s partying(not the good kind) I appreciate waking up in the morning feeling rested, savoring a good cup of coffee, and setting my (good)intentions for the day. 🙂

  5. It’s so hard to enjoy the little things in today’s world, so happy you have found the time to! I appreciate the reality check I should probably take a step back and try to “live in the moment” more. Being a busy college girl who still isn’t sure about her future sure doesn’t help. But hey at least I can say I tried right? haha 😀

  6. I LOVE this…such a great thing to keep in mind and I TOTALY agree.

I’m getting married in just a little over a month (CAN’T believe it came so quick!) and reading this the first thing that came to my mind was how little I’ve appreciated my body. I’ve been so in this mindset of wanting to get in the best shape of my life for my wedding but being SO lazy about it….like disgustingly lazy. My motivation is lacking which is crazy since i’m getting MARRIED! But then I had a thought…so many people out there have injuries or illnesses that keep them from even being able to use their bodies and I’m over here being Ms. Lazy-Bones totally taking for granted that I have a perfectly healthy working body. Yeesh!

Thanks for this eye-opener of a post girl!

  7. Taking a step outside, walks along the beach, spending time with my dogs winds me down they are so in tune with everything! Reading a good book and taking a moment to just breathe and be in the moment xo

  8. Hey Lauryn,

Love this post! A little over a year ago I picked up a cute journal from the store and started a Thankful Journal, and every night (well my goal is every night) I write things that I was thankful for. Sometimes I get deep and sometimes its silly i.e. wearing leggings all day, fuzzy blankets, avocados. Anyways, I found it really help put things in perspective. Sometimes people can get caught up in buying the next super cute outfit (guilty), or anything that life puts in your way. The Thankful Journal I started was so helpful in realizing everything I need to be grateful for and how wonderful life can be. It especially good if you had a bad day, because even if you thought it was a bad day, there are always things to be thankful for. It makes that day a little less bad/frustrating.

It’s also fun to look back on, and see how things may have changed. I hope you found this helpful!!

    Happy Vibes,
    Kayleigh

    1. I love this idea – thanks for sharing! I try to list all the things I’m thankful for everyday when talking with God but I always feel like I’m leaving stuff out. I think writing it down would be helpful.

  9. I love it! I think my favorite thing that you said in this post is spending time with inspiring people. I want to try to do more of this. I love to inspire others, but I love to be inspired too. 🙂

I go through fast paced times and slow paced times. I think my favorite thing to do is go to the beach and just listen to the waves, or drink wine on top of my care while watching the sunset. I don’t do these things enough, and it’s right at my finger tips here in San Diego.
