Something that reallllllllyyyyy bugs: hateful, mean comments on social media.

It seems like the more followers you have on Instagram, the more hateful comments.

The other day I signed on to Instagram to see a top blogger getting annihilated in the comment section.

I just don’t get it…if someone doesn’t have anything nice to say, then why say anything at all?

If I don’t like what’s someone’s promoting on social media, I’ll ignore it or unfollow that person.

It’s real simple.

Like, is it necessary to say “just die,” “you’re a fat pig,” &/or “eww you ugly B.”

Ultimately I would never go out of my way to write something hurtful. It’s a total waste of time & it’s combative…and just plain hateful.

At the end of the day, it’s like, uhhh, please find a hobby besides being mean to famous people on Instagram.

Point: negativity breeds negativity. Positive vibes always win in my book.

I mean…right?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Ok, rant over.

x L

  1. Social media definitely brings out the ugly. I would never say anything negative about a person on social media-especially on their posts. People need to get a life.
P.S. That shirt is so cute!!!

  2. It’s the insane amount of negativity and hate from internet trolls (particularly anonymous comments) that make social media almost unbearable. After 4 years of blogging, I finally stopped in 2011, in part because I was sick of the hateful comments. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this too 🙁

    1. Liz- I know I don’t know you but don’t stop writing!! To me it’s obvious why you were being attacked:

      1) What you were saying was important enough and had enough substance for people to come against
      2) People want attention and will get it through whatever means possible. Even if its negative.

You have a voice and a perspective that deserves to be heard. Don’t let those punks dictate the outcome of your life, no matter how small.

      Don’t stop! Believin’! ..Or writing.

  3. Agree! If you don’t like someone, don’t follow them! Simple as that. It says a lot about someone if they to through all that effort to beat someone else down. It’s easier to be mean from behind a keyboard, but remember there’s a real person on the other side.

  4. Girl I totally hear what you are saying about negativity! There is enough negativity in this world that it sickens me to think that people go out of their ways to talk trash on social media! There is absolutely nothing productive to come out of being negative. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all!” -(I think Thumper’s mom said that in Bambi)
Anyways, love those coasters mon! Andddd I am really enjoying reading through your blog and following along, keep up the good work! 🙂

  5. So many famous people on Insty get trashed so bad! I’ve been noticing lately on Facebook that people are really trash talking each other on controversial articles that get posted. It’s really crazy and sad. It’s like everyone’s just super bored or something. Not cool.
    Anyways, love the boots!

  6. Love your booties!

And YES! It breaks my heart when people are mean! Just unfollow! Choose love! Be happy! Or keep your mouth shut 🙂

  7. I totally agree with you! If you can’t say something nice then don’t say it at all. It’s really that simple 🙂
    x

  8. Ugh, yes! I can’t believe people would waste any of their time being negative to other people. Please fill your time with something productive, something that makes you a better/happier/healthy person!

  9. Love that top and ALL the decor in your place! So cute!! And I agree, just don’t say anything or stop allowing someone if you don’t like what they are saying or posting, simple as that! I would say its the jealousy talking with those people….. 🙂

  10. I mean honestly people think they are so tough behind a keyboard….I doubt they would have enough to say it to your face…..totally lame such wasted energy hating on people…..they clearly need to focus on what’s going on in their lives before they try to comment on someone else’s. Those booties are fab btw 😉

  11. OMG this is off topic but the free people boots on the bottom scroll are not only TO DIE FOR but they are also on crazy sale down to $99!!! Needless to say they are on their way to me and I only hope they wait until Monday to arrive so I can hide them from my husband!

  12. Where do you buy Pixy’s clothes? I have a chihuahua and only find cheesy looking outfits. Hers are so cute!!!

  13. Negative, hateful comments are really inappropriate and completely uncalled for.

What really grinds my gears though is when you provide legitimate feedback on someones’ blog, or post a difference of opinion, and they flounce and cry butthurt. There is a particular blogger who I don’t follow, but does pop up through retweets from another friend. I once challenged her opinion and views on her blog in a very nice, levelheaded way (where it was appropriate to do so as she was inviting conversation in the comments) and then she flounced all over twitter, twisting my words! It was a sight to behold.

(Sorry this was so long, it’s a subject I have a lot of feelings about ;))

  14. Yeah, what is UP with those people?! I feel like certain websites/networks get especially ugly…like YouTube and Instagram. It’s so sad that anyone would waste their time trying to make someone else feel bad. Do you have any tips for getting over the haters and not letting them ruin your day?

    1. Kill um’ with kindness. They’re clearly unhappy with something going on in their own life. Keep killing it with your awesome site, Charlotte! <3

  15. Completely agree on the social media front, it’s nice to be nice and if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Nobody has time for that kind of negativity x

  16. Right on sista! It’s just the ignorant people sitting behind their computer feeling empowered. Keep doin your wonderful thing!!!

  17. I love the pic of Pixie’s dry cleaning! The cutest pic ever! I think she needs her own blog! You’re inspiring and awesome. I’m eating much cleaner since finding your blog, and recommitting to becoming more fit. Luv your style!

  18. Agreed on the negative comments on social media. I saw one of my all time favorite bloggers get trashed this week because she put a picture up on Insta of her super cute matching toenail polish and sandals. They’re feet who cares what they look like and they’re shoes, who cares where they came from whether they are courtesy of the designer or if she bought them herself. I used to prefer Insta over Facebook because it was all about pictures and happiness but the mean things people say can be outrageous anymore. Hopefully people will grow up as social media isn’t slowing down any time soon.

On a happy note, love love the coasters!

    Xo!

  19. I think the problem in today’s society is that there is no accountability. The people that are mean and abusive only would NEVER have the balls to say that shit to someone’s face. The internet allows people to be anonymous. I agree though, STFU if you don’t have anything nice to say.

  20. Ok those coasters are amaze, I literally almost bought the same ones yesterday! I should have.. Amen about the negativity and mean comments! People need to just choose to be kind, this world would be a lot prettier, and skinnier :-*
