For the last three weeks I’ve spent one day a week working out with a trainer.

Like, a balls to the walls, gnarly-ass trainer.

And?

I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve never been so sore in my life.

Butttt it’s the good kinda sore. An addicting sore. The type of sore that makes you crave/want/need more even though you can’t bend over to tie your hot pink Nike’s.

I love it.

I mean, clearly I had plateaued. And honestly? The experience reminded me how important it is to switch up my routine every couple months.

The body gets bored with the same, old workout- ESP day after day after day. Changing it up shocks the body, speeds the metabolism, & defines new muscles.

So.

I challenge you to try it. Switch up your usual workout routine & see if it makes a difference. I bet you’ll be so, so sore too.

But the good kinda sore ; ).

  1. Ugh, you just reminded me how desperately I need to mix up my workout routine. I haven’t been sore in a long time. I spin constantly because I love the spin classes at the fitness studio I work at, but I haven’t strength trained in forever! I miss feeling sore! I just get so addicted to the sweaty, heart-pounding, super hot feeling of a spin class.

  2. Happy you have an amazing personal trainer who is kicking your BOOTY! The best feeling in the world is doing something like that for yourself and leaving feeling greaaatt! Sending you even more AMAZING training sessions xo Love + Shine CourtStar

  3. I completely agree. I’ve been doing the same routine for awhile now and even after what I thought was a good workout, didn’t feel like I did anything. Do you recommend working certain body parts each day? I try to stick to 3-4 days a week.

  4. ohhh yess! I love that sore feeling. there is nothing like working with a trainer 🙂 I do twice a week and try to mix up my classes a lot which I do one a week of.

  5. 100% agree! Doing the same workouts get you no where – sure the same workouts may give you results for the first 2 – 4 weeks but after that results hinder and that’s when people quit – meanwhile it has nothing to do with the workouts – its just the fact they aren’t changing things up.

  6. Totally agree! After running for the past 9 mths or so I’m taking some time off for the summer and giving Bikram Yoga a try. I started this week and 2 sessions in, yep, definitely sore in all new places! I’m not totally sold on it yet but it’s a refreshing change of pace!

  7. Is the recipe for ‘Sunday’s breakfast’ (the quinoa pic) posted somewhere? Looks delicious!

  8. I am in desperate need of shaking up my routine. I’ve been stuck at a plateau for months now and I need to get my life back together so I can feel that good kind of sore again! I miss it!!

  9. I’ve been moving my workouts outside and out of the gym. Love it! That magazine kitchen looks like the house from YoungHouseLove 🙂
