[ Today’s snack: blue corn chips + hummus + lemon ]

I heard the best eating tip the other day from my girlfriend, Stefanie: don’t eat straight out of the bag. Simple/stupid, right? Think about it: when you eat from a bag, a container, and/or jar- you’re bound to overeat. Buy portion-sized bowls [ think miso soup size ]- it provides accountability & allows you to practice portion control. There’s absolutely no reason to watch TV or read, while mindlessly stuffing chips from an extra large bag, down your throat. My snack today [ ^^ see above – I ended up scooping the hummus into the bowl too ;p ] was the perfect post-lunch bite- not too big, not too small.

What’s your favorite, easy eating tip?

  1. Long time reader but never commented, HAD to comment on this post! I recently hit a plateau with my work out results and actually put on a few pounds. I realized that I wasn’t snacking betweent meals and was coming home from work starving and would go through my pantry ravenous for an “energy” snack but was consuming much more calories and sugar and fat than I thought . So instead when I come home I portion out my snacks on a paper plate and drink a big glass of water with it, it gives me energy, I gradually increased my work out intensities and I’m getting past that plateau and never allow myself to get too hungry because it just makes you crazy when you do that. To avoid this comment from being pointless, a tip I have is in addition to portioning snacks really thinking about what you want your snack to be is crucial just like meals, if you want Chips and guacamole fine and if you want M&Ms that’s fine too but portion it and eat a carrot with it lol it’s much more satisfying and I was surprised at how little I needed to snack to feel satisfied and energized!

  2. I make sure to always eat the healthiest things on my plate first. That way by the time I get to the less healthy things I’m getting full and don’t eat as much!
