{ Ok, so quick story: my friend, Erica & I always say WWOD to each other when we’re in a pinch for fashion. What’s it mean? Well, obviously: ‘What Would Olsen’s Do.’ You know, like MK & Ashley Olsen. So a typical convo would be “should I wear these houndstooth jacket with these snakeskin boots?” & she’ll say “WWOD.” Are we weird? LOL. Anyway, on my birthday she gave me the sweetest, most special gift: she handmade this embroidered cloth with our little saying. It currently hangs in the closet next to vintage Barbie. It’s so cute, right?! }
Lately I’ve been allllllllll about ‘mocktails.’
Mocktails look like a cocktail, kinda taste like a cocktail, & require a little garnish like a cocktail…
…but they have no alcohol…that’s right: zero, zilch, zip, nada, nothing. Hence why they’re called “MOCK-tails.”
Get it?
Clever, right…( but kinda not really ).
This skinny mocktail contained: two big splashes of guava kombucha ( but use whatever flavor your little heart desires ), one cup of sparkling water, one tablespoon of chia seeds, & tons of Meyer lemon over ice. Garnish with a lemon slice ( if you guys are interested in more of my mocktail recipes, let me know below— I have a bunch! ).
Ever since I came back from our Palm Springs getaway, I’ve felt a strong need to clean out my system.
I like to check myself before I wreck myself & practice super strict discipline every once in a while.
So basically this month there will be no frisky cocktails nights or vino girl nights.
{ Lately: over perfectly curled hair, I’m all about the bed head/air dried look }
{ Summer reusable ice cubes…& hey, they don’t dilute wine— genius, right?! }
And honestly with no alc, I feel amazing! I’ve lost some weight, my skin is clearer, & I literally hop out of bed like Jack in the Box.
Even though I love a little wine every now & then, cleaning out my bod a couple of times a year is a good reset.
Ya know?
Anyway, this month I’ll be staying in a lot & doing some major reading. Some of the books on my list: anything Bret Eastern Ellis, The Goldfinch, The Book Thief, & Restless Souls: The Sharon Tate Story.
Does anyone else have any amazing, must-reads?? Please share— I literally LOVE book recommendations! ( I’m specifically a huge fan of non-fiction & autobiographies- #TSCbookclub ).
Happy Monday! x.
{ I cannot tell you guys how obsessed I am with acrylic storage…the obsession is beyond scary …they’re just so perfect for organization! }
{ Pixy’s endless summer }
If you like Bret Easton Ellis’ work, read this piece he wrote for the Daily Beast a few years back when Charlie Sheen had his epic meltdown. He categorizes old vs new empire. Based on your writing style, I think you’ll like the content/possibly use it for context.
It’s much better than the Canyons if nothing else

If you haven’t read anything by Jon Ronson, you might want to check him out. He has a few non-fiction essay collections, and his latest is called Lost at Sea. It’s great! Also, Devil in the White City is another amazing non-fiction book!
The Husband’s Secret and Big Little Lies are great summer reads. I’m going to enjoy your “mock tails” today! Sounds yum!!!!
My all time favorite genre is memoir/autobiographical! You should check out The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls and The Gin Closet by Leslie Jamison. They’re both sort of dark but really, really good. Happy reading!
I will def check out! I love dark; lol.
I’ve been interested in doing the same kind of cleanse like you’re doing so I would love some more mocktails recipes!
WOW. Your skin is so vibrant in that picture! Flawless.
Loving the mocktail recipes, please post more!
Thank you!! Will do a tutorial.
Love the quote. I’m reading a great book now called “Beautiful Ruins” by Jess Walter, which is a story set in the islands of Italy in the 60s as well as modern day Hollywood. The storyline is twisting and turning and at its heart, its a romance. Have a great day!
I have this book and need to read it!
I’d love to hear some more mocktail recipes! I’m feeling the need for an end of summer clean out as well.
Def!! Will post soon. x
The Untethered Soul by Micheal Singer – blew ‘ma mind! Teaches you a whole new way to look and journey through life 🙂
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand is an awesome read if you like autobiographies!
That little cloth is absolutely adorable. I as well look up to them for fashion. I mean why can’t I just have their whole entire wardrobe? Haha I hope you love the Book Thief! I am in love with that book and the way it is written is so unique! In the beginning of the book it is so confusing. But keep pushing through, because it gets a lot better!
Hope you enjoy it, AnnCates xx

The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty is amazing!!
Lauren,
If you like autobiographies, I recommend Getting Life by Michael Morton about his 25 years in prison as an innocent man. It puts life in the “free world” into perspective!
And can I just say, when I get frustrated with my job, for some reason your blog always puts be back in good spirits! So, thank you:)

Please share what makeup (brand and shades) you’re wearing! You look like you’re absolutely glowing! You inspired me to make a guava kombucha mocktail, and I’m sipping it right now — it’s amazeballs! Would love more recipes and book recommendations. I’m reading The Silkworm right now. It’s really good!
I’m actually going to be doing a TSC YouTube channel & I will share EXACTLY how I get the dewey look. In the meantime, all my products are found in my book babe!! xx.

The Empty Chair by Bruce Wagner. Two mini novellas/memoirs that BELONG together. I could not get over it. I have read about a dozen books since and none have measured up.
Putting this on my list ASAP. OMG you guys gave me so many good ones! x.
HOW do you not drink every weekend even with social plans!? I love to drink socially and every weekend I find myself out to dinner, lunch, brunch, you name it with a drink in my hand. I would love to cleanse my system as you put it, but where do you find the willpower!? Tips appreciated!
Hahaha!!! I will do a post this. I typically carry a wine glass around with sparkling water & a splash ( I mean a SPLASH ) of pinot grigio. Looks like I’m drinking but not really. xx.
I loved the Goldfinch!
Recent faves—
Fiction: Big Little Lies (so great!)
Nonfiction: Furious Love about Richard Burton and Liz Taylor (so fascinating!)
Just finished Goldfinch! It was really good, long but I liked it a lot. I reread the last few pages twice because I loved what the character had to say! The next two books on my desk right now are City of Thieves and This is How you Lose Her
The Book Thief is amazing. If you like YA, Delirium is my favorite series. On The Island by Tracey Garvis Graves is a great easy summer read.
More mocktails please! I’m 18 weeks pregnant and they are saving my life?. I get so sick of water.
