FINALLY!

IT’S HERE GUYS: THE BIG REVEAL.

Julie & I have been working on this project for months & we’re so excited to finally show you.

BACKSTORY: I have known Julie ( also known as @JULESWICK on Instagram– follow her for so much inspo ) since I was like 20. She used to do my makeup when I loved way too much bronzer & a tadpole brow…things have changed- thank God. Julie was a head makeup artist at MAC before she went out on her own as freelance. She’s by far one of the most creative people I have ever encountered. AND SHE JUST LAUNCHED HER NEW BLOG, DEUXALITI, WHICH YOU CAN ALL GO STALK NOW. Anyway when I was in NYC recently I worked with Julie because I had some events & needed makeup. Welllllll…one of the appointments happened to be at her house ( which was just the most chic loft ever- I’m sure you can imagine ) & I saw how she stored her makeup. I WAS FUCKING BLOWN AWAY. It looked JUST like this post but it was super makeup heavy. I asked her if she could come to San Diego to help me do my own JULES WICK MAKEUP INSTALLATION SITUATION & she flew out to San Diego to set it up. Her & her fiancé, Jason Naylor ( who, SURPRISE !!!, is also an artist. Stalk his art at @jasonnaylor ), worked for SEVEN days until like 1 in the morning to set this up. CRAZY. They cared so much about every detail & really tailed the whole installation to my taste.

My vision was to have the installation focus on makeup but REALLY focus on SKIN. Skin is obviously a huge part of my life so it was important to me for the installation to showcase this. I also wanted pops of pink ( I know weird ) so Julie & Jason went to The Container Store & found all these pink office supplies ( you can shop below too ) to incorporate into the installation. I loved the idea of utilizing office supplies in a makeup installation. Like how fun is a pencil holder for beautyBlenders?! Or a pink paper holder for displaying the makeup you’re using? THEY EVEN used a paperclip holder as my facial massager holder- but CUT the holder to perfectly fit my massager. HOW FUN.

Truly Julie thought of every detail. I could not be happier with how it turned out.

Everything is displayed from masks to cotton balls to my white blow dryer in a creative way because of Julies. She even did a The Skinny Confidential GIVEAWAY drawer for you guys! Also what I loved is she used the men’s shoe boxes I had & recommended a year ago in the display- so we didn’t waste anything.

WHO CARES ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE BUT CLEAR LIPSTICK CAPS?

To me, this made the whole thing come together. This may sound weird to you. I just love details & this was a detail that SCREAMED chic to me. Like I said, Jules initially showed me her installment in NYC & this was the one detail I was SO fucking excited about. I think every girl should get these clear lipstick caps to display. Do you love?

Jules really paid attention to how she laid out the colors of the lipsticks too which I thought was super creative. The clear makes it easier too for when you’re running late ( ME, ME, ME ). YOU CAN JUST GRAB YOUR COLOR & GO. Also does anyone else find it annoying to have to open the lipstick to see the color? SO!!! With clear lipstick caps you keep it efficient- just how we like it.

MAKEUP ORGANIZATION- TSC STYLE:

Some tips to organize your own makeup installation?

1.) START WITH A BASE:

Start with a closet. You can find one at IKEA- we shared info below. And use the closet to create your own custom makeup or skin installation. If you can’t do a closet, do men’s shoe boxes. I did that forever & it worked well. You can find more on that here.

2.) ADD A DETAIL:

Of course adding a personal detail is so important! Pick a color scheme, add some flair, personalize it to your taste. Like I said we used a lot of pink & black ( WHAT UP TSC ) & put a heavy emphasis on skin.

3.) CREATE A STATION:

You want a station to do your makeup. Mine pulls out so I can do IG LIVE’s easily or YouTube videos. Plus it’s great for day-to-day. I can pull it out, leave my favorites on there, & shut it quickly when I leave.

4.) THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX:

Incorporate pieces that aren’t necessary for makeup. The WHITE LIES jar is something we initially had in the kitchen. But now it’s in my installment. We also featured WOO ( coconut sex lube ), some of my favorite perfumes, & even have a Beauty Blender display. I love to bring contrast to everything I do.
