People are extremely interested in juicing. Healthy Bitch Daily & I decided to collaborate again to bring you all the deets; get excited!
How do you do it? What does it involve? Is it healthy? Ok, ok, here’s the answers:
1.] Juice isn’t a food group. Despite ads, articles and wild claims, juice is not something you ever need to consume. It is not necessary to juice. However, it’s an easy, quick alternative to eating actual veg off a plate. Sometimes I am lazy with my veggie intake & would rather plug my nose, & slurp it down.
2.] All juice is not created equal. So you want to shed those lb.’s & get rid of the nasty crap in your bod? Then get excited on organic products. It’s essential that your juice is made from organic veggies because they contain no chemicals. Organic is totally worth the price & effort.
Also, if the ingredient label begins with fruits or starchy vegetables- check yourself, before you wreck yourself. Keep it strictly lean & green.
With spices, lemon, or lime juice [ plus the occasional addition of green apples ], you can create a drinkable, tasty juice. Still feeling like you need added sugars? Add raspberries, strawberries, or bananas.
3.] Myth: juicing requires an expensive juicer [ & other advertising lies ]: Look, whether it’s a juicer, a blender, and/or a combination of the two, there are key things to navigate. Make sure it’s clean before it’s put to use. Also, you be the judge: how much of what goes in is actually coming out as juice?
4.] Juices do NOT have a life of their own. Juices do not stay fresh forever. Never drink a juice that has been sitting in your car, chilling on your desk, or even one that is laying on a bed of melting ice. If you’re juicing yourself, always keep your produce clean. And? The juice loses its nutrients fast; smile & drink it down the hatch!
5.] They do NOT complete you. But, they are delicious, nutritious, & an energizing addition to your nutrient intake every day. If you’re consuming a green juice with no starchy vegetables, then you’re all good. If your juice contains all fruit, then the portion size should entail four to eight ounces, depending on your activity. Remember, it also counts as a carbohydrate serving.
Side note: if possible, add bee pollen, protein, or seed grains to your juice. Lastly, if the juice doesn’t contain healthy fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, &/or oils, then eat them along with the juice [ you need these essential fatty acids ].
What’s your favorite juice recipe?
Thank you for affirming my healthy view of juicing. My juicing journey started as a way to calm my acneic skin by increasing the nutrients that promote beautiful skin. Although it didn’t work to the level I hoped (I wanted to stop taking antibiotics for acne, and I have, but juicing alone didn’t do solve it),I continued to juice because I loved it. I like how energetic it makes me and how tasty and filling it is! And it’s good for me too? Wow. My fav juice is kale, turnip greens, bell pepper, carrots, and sweet potato.
I’ll have to try your fav juice…thanks Tam. : )
Just had a gorgeous vegetable juice with ginger (gotta have ginger or lime for an extra kick!) this morning… Always feel 100% better for including one.
Absolutely LOVE your blog!
Yum!! Thanks Anna ; )
including one in my day, I meant to say!
I’m a huge fan of your blog. Juicing is so awesome and my fav go to is 1/4 canteloupe and 1/2 cucumber. Delicious!
Thanks Brandee! That sounds delectable- I’ll have to try it! xo
Just found your blog! Absolutely love it, and so helpful.
following immediately, and would love for you to check out my blog fashion415.blogspot.com
Thanks lady! I’ll check out your blog too!
It’s true that you do not need a juicer. I actually used my blender for years until I got a juicer for a Christmas present. I actually ended up liking my blender more- it was far easier to clean up.
Love it!
Wow, I really love your blog! You are such an inspiration for me, I love healthy choices and training. So many good tips, love it! Thank you and keep up the good job 🙂
Thanks Emca! xo
Like you there’s definitely occasions when I don’t feel like chewing through a salad and would rather just juice and “slurp it down.” Your side note is a good one. I throw my juices in the blender and always add a few sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, (pepitas), and a spoonful of flaxseed oil as well.
: )
Nice reading to many good ideas about juicing. Can someone help me with what are the vegetables to juice for diabetic people. Please.
