Just because you’re eating sushi, does not make it healthy. There are often many misconceptions when it comes to devouring the Japanese cuisine. A few weekends ago we went out to Katsuya; naturally since it was a Saturday, I was having a cocktail, so I picked from the menu carefully. Here’s some of my sushi rules:
How to Eat Sushi- Healthy Style:
+ Start with edamames with no salt or a ginger dressed salad.
+ Miso soup is amazing: it aids in digestion, strengthens the immune system, & has tons of probiotics & B-Vitamins. Drink up!
+ Always use low-sodium soy sauce [ the green cap, not the red! ].
+ Wrap your rolls in cucumber or brown rice.
+ Eat tons of ginger. Benefits? It reduces inflammation, relieves stomach aches, & helps with headaches.
+ Drink light beer- if you’re a beer + sushi type [ my favs: Sapporo Light or Kirin Light ].
+ Tofu is fab: protein!
+ Sashimi is your friend- yellow tuna sashimi with wasabi is amazing!
+ Add jalapeños or wasabi to your rolls: spicy foods help fight cancer and they’re filling.
+ Order the banana tempura, but ask for it lightly fried.
Kampai!
I haven’t had sushi in so long. This post is suddenly making me crave it. 🙂

although i adore miso soup, i’m super weary of the sodium count. what do you think?
Yum, I love sashimi!! So delish. Miso soup does contain sodium, however, I feel like the benefits out way the sodium count.
: )
I haven’t had sushi in so long. I didn’t have it while I was pregnant (just had baby number 2) so I am due for a sushi date with the only person who will go with me – my sis!

Awesome post Lauryn… We cooked sushi yesterday night and enjoyed it a lot. Added avocados to it as well 🙂
Useful post & now you’re making me hungry with beautiful pictures! I LOVES sushi, so we eat it fairly often. My favorites include salmon, spicy tuna, edamams, especially topped with jalapenos. Yummy!
ugh yum! thank you for reading!
Hello Lauryn, although sushi is super delicious it’s also very high in calories. But there are just so many wonderful guides out there are very simple to follow that are also consider “keto” or vegetarian. However although high in calories they are also great food that contains a lot of omega 3 and reduces inflammation 🙂
