There’s absolutely nothing better than a bowl of extra hot tomato soup.
I meannnnnnn? Right?
Like I’m so in to the whole grilled cheese on spelt bread with a delicious bowl of tomato soup.
Problem is it’s difficult to find time to make homemade soup.
So when I found a non-GMO, no added MSG ( EWWW MSG ), no artificial flavor boxed soup with NO chemicals or preservatives, I was over the moon.
Why?
Because I can trick Michael, duh.
So here’s what I did: I heated up Imagine’s organic creamy tomato soup, stove-top style. Chopped up some raw garlic ( << YUM ), grabbed some fresh rosemary, a bunch of Meyer lemon, Parmesan cheese, and my secret ingredient: TRUFFLE SALT…and made “homemade soup.”
Yes. I lied to my fiancé ( let’s hope he’s not reading this little posty-post ).
He came home from work, hungry & hypo-glycemic ( << what’s new? Typical male ).
And there I was: standing barefoot in the kitchen, wearing a hot pink apron, carefully stirring my soup. I had grilled cheese sandwiches on spelt bread sliced in ‘soldiers‘ & my homemade rosemary tomato soup that “I spent allllllll day cooking.”
Of course he was obsessed with my hard work & the amazing soup.
Healthy, delicious, AND EASY!!!
So thanks to Imagine’s organic creamy tomato soup, I may or may not be ‘making my homemade tomato soup’ on a weekly basis.
Sorry I’m not sorry.
What’s your favorite fake ‘homemade trick?’ I need some more ideas. LOL.

Nordstrom has a fab tomato soup, since we don’t have a Nordys here in my college town, I CANNOT wait to try this!
YUMMMMMM
Thanks for the trick, will be added as one of mommy’s day surprises! As my momma is a big fan of tomato soup and juice!!
xo
Do you really have a spoon that says “The Skinny Confidential” on it? How cute!
It would not occur to me to fake soups though. There is nothing easier and faster to make. My tip for tomato soup especially: Make a gallon when tomatoes are (seasonally!) available and freeze it.
brilliant move. i had grilled cheese and butternut squash soup last night 🙂
Haha I love the one from Trader Joe’s. Paired with some crusty hot bread, it tastes delicious.

Yum this looks delicious! One of my favorite meals is taking Black Bean Soup from Trader Joes and using my slow cooker to put chicken, peppers, onion, tomatoes and organic corn and letting it slow cook for 8 hours! I then use Gfree tortillas and make skinny margs for a taco party! Seriously the best tacos ever! Thanks for sharing your tricks 😉 xo C
I LOVE Imagine soups. Their Cream of Broccoli is really good too. I usually chop some kale, bell peppers, squash, along with some already made quinoa, and pop in it. I heat it all together and it makes the soup more filling and I get my daily veggies out if the way.
Thanks for the nice tip. I bought some butternut squash from Trader Joes yesterday, thanks! how do you keep your teeth so white? When I drink orangey soups, colorful foods it stains my teeth. I don’t trust those chemicals to bleach my teeth. I’m all about natural and living with less toxic chemicals in life
Such a great idea! I am definitely trying this. xoxo

You, girl, are f-ing hilarious. <3
Lentil soup is delicious, too!
Hi! This post made me laugh!
I have faked a gourmet scallops&quinoa dish for my boyfriend… I have bought microwaveable quinoa packets (Costco has them, they also have a delicious quinoa and brown rice blend) and quickly heated that up as I am cooking scallops on stove in avocado oil (you love coconut oil, so use that if you prefer!) sea salt, and then depending on my mood/craving one or more of the following: black pepper/cayenne pepper/garlic powder (aka season scallops to your taste!)
A “ghetto meal” is quinoa with a sunnyside up/fried egg on top… for when you are craving carbs and warm goodness. I am Chilean and on my trips to visit relatives my mom and I bring back a spice called “merken” I have no idea what this would be in English. But I like to add this spice, cayenne, and pepper to the egg, in order to add a little kick and metabolic boost to the food!
Another meal that my bf faked for me was salmon + spinach… I arrived at my boyfriend’s house to find him preparing a romantic dinner… the fish was delicious. I was so impressed by the marinade… he started to laugh and finally admitted that he had asked him mom for good salmon and she had recommended he get frozen salmon with a lemon marinade… He then got strawberries and walnuts and added that to the spinach salad. The whole combo was delicious with the fruit and citrus. It’s his signature dish he makes me when he wants to have a date night hosted by him!
Have a great night!
This recipe looks amazing, can’t wait to try it!

I’m addicted to soup at the moment.
I’ve been making this Green soup all week for a bit of a health boost. It’s yummy and full of nutrients

I looove tomato soup–can’t wait to track some down! I’m also a long time reader of your blog and feel like there have been more sponsored posts recently (I also <3 skinny cow!). I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.. xx
Haha love it how he didn’t have a clue!!
I’m the same though, sometimes you just need to throw something easy together but still have it taste amazing – that’s what I aim for in the majority of my soups! Who has all the time it takes to slow cook it? Definitely not me!

I am completely addicted to the Panera tomato soup and grilled cheese. Any time it rains I want to go snag a table by the fireplace and enjoy a nice warm tomato soup, but it is so cream filled that I just have to say no! I am so thrilled that you have provided a good alternative.
I’ve def done this. I do the same with red beans and rice and add chicken sausage for a great Cajun style meal.
Ohhh that soup looks good!! I wish we had that in the uk, would be a perfect cheat meal for when people come around haha! http://snapgracklepop.blogspot.co.uk
I just posted a kale chips recipe which i would love if you could check out!
I live in Boston and have been living off of this soup all winter. Not even kidding I have four in my cabinet right now.
Happy Planet soup!! Not sure if it’s only available in Canada but they make fresh, all natural soups that could fool anyone that they’re homemade!!
Great idea and post. It is so much better to fake something until you can make it, then not make it in some shape or form. Seems both delicious and nutritious.
Great recipe. I love tomato!
