Friends don’t let friends eat like shit!
Thank God my family & friends are health conscious. Having healthy people around makes it so much easier to fuel my bod with the proper nutrients. My GF’s & I are always sharing health tips, tricks, & exchanging new/healthy product discoveries.
Lately I’ve received a lot of e-mails that go something like this:
“Hey Lauryn, I’m really into taking care of myself & eating healthy. My roommates make snide remarks because while they’re eating cookies & chips, I try & pick better options. Sometimes it’s to the point where I give in to eating the shitty foods so they lay off me. Any tips?”
Here’s my tip. Find new friends.
Kidding [ sort of. ].
No really, here’s my tip: tell your friends not worry about what you’re eating- because when Summer 2013 rolls around you’ll be feeling confident & bikini ready. I mean, they should really worry about something else.
Harsh?
I’m all about balance, so having people around me who are balanced works best for me. If your friends can’t accept that you don’t want eat sugary, processed crap, then that’s their own f’ing problem. Like, sorry I’m not sorry that I eat fresh foods.
“Good food is wise medicine.”
Say this: DBJ of discipline!!! ; )))

I work with many college students across the country who have put on upwards of 70 pounds thru their college years. it has taken , in some cases almost two years to take off this weight as weight gain at this rate causes many metabolic syndromes, including type 2 diabetes!!! This makes losing weight sooooo hard ! I tell all my college clients to ask thier friends why it matters to THEM what they eat??! Worry about yourself. Take care of yourself! These college “saboteurs” will be out of your life soon enough and you will be left with the aftermath of this weight gain. Getting jobs, partners, even friends becomes a nightmare with all this extra weight. F***k them.Take care of YOURSELF!!!!! I will speak to college students ONLY for free..(201)306-4709.Excuse my language…my heart breaks for the plight of these young people.
Good for you! What a great service!
Love it. So true. It’s fun to indulge in some French fries with girlfriends once in a while but it makes it hard when your friends are always eating junk around you. Balance is key to being healthy AND happy. That’s also why I try to pick and choose what I actually love enough to indulge in. For me, it’s French fries! But I Only eat them on occasion and I make baked sweet potato fries at home a lot to satisfy my craving!!!

My favorite is chips and salsa! I can’t stop… : (
Oooh, the chips and salsa from Chili’s is so addicting. LOL. On another note, I have a section of my blog that lists a few posts that are currently popular and almost every day one of your features from my blog is listed. My readers love you! TGIF!
Amen sister! How true is this?! So annoying! But whatever, don’t give in!
: )))
Absolutely Agree!!! People make snide remarks mainly because they do not have the self discipline themselves to make the changes to look/feel better. Those remarks are just to bring you down with them. But if you eat healthy you’ll feel as light as a feather 🙂
Negative Nancy’s– I’d rather feel light then heavy any day!
great post! I totally agree with you 🙂
🙂
Love this. I always tell people to eff the eff off when they criticize my “picky” eating habits. Pshhhh
HAHAH! Love it. Pshhhhhh
I really need to get back into this! At home my family ate super healthy, but since I’ve moved in with my boyfriend who is the pickiest eater, and only likes mostly-unhealthy prepackaged crap I’ve fallen off the wagon a bit. I have been getting better, and improving his diet little by little but the first two weeks was haaard. I almost feel like “eat shit, feel like shit” should be a printable in our kitchen!
Thank you for posting this, I hadn’t really thought about my eating habits recently.
❤stephanie
I want this printed out too! LOL. It’s a great reminder.
Whenever my husband complains about what I make for meals (typically healthy veggies) I tell too bad, kitchens closed, you want something else make it yourself. Most of the time he eats the meal I made him anyway hahaha 🙂

LOVE IT!
you should post a lentil recipe!! 🙂
Definitely will. I’m getting reallllll into lentils lately.
Hey Lauryn!
Would you agree that dairy and wheat and supposedly eggs are bad for your joints?! Since an injury last year my knee hurts sometimes. I cut out all processed stuff and I don´t do dairy because I am lactose intolerant but I LOVE eggs and now I heard that eating eggs is related to joint pain but it´s the best protein source, don´t you agree?!
I LOVE eggs. I haven’t heard anything about them being bad for joints. They’re my favorite protein source.
Couldn’t agree with you more. I think sometimes friends make these rude comments about your healthy habits because they wish they had the dicipline to do the same. ohhh and you wait until bikini season! xox
YES !!! Love it.
I was bad for years … so I could have been one of Gladys’ clients. But a year ago I took charge, dropped 50lbs, and am now at my perfect, ideal weight. But I’m that girl who gets the salad with the dressing on the side at the restaurant, or who often brings her own meal to dinner parties, or offers to make things for dinner parties so I can bring something healthy that I know I can eat. I get razzed for it all the time, but I don’t ever want to resort back to my old bad habits, so I just learn to deal. And I’m slowly converting others to my way of eating by showing them that healthy foods can be delish! Love this post. Hopefully it will encourage others!!! 🙂
Pretzels are not really healthy…they’re simple carbohydrates…and juice is loaded with unnecessary sugar!!
Agreed! I have a few of them- instead of all of them- with hummus and Suja’s juices are sweetened with Stevia instead of sugar ; ). That’s why I love them so much!
Hi Lauryn,
So pleased to read this, my friends are always teasing me for picking salad when we go out to eat, but after seeing this, I just feel even better about picking those healthy options. 🙂
Yay!!! : )
I have this problem with my boyfriend. When we first started dating I had awful health habits. Now I workout out, eat healthy, and take supplements. He gives me crap all the time and is constantly stocking our house with shitty foods. He is always waving brownies or pizza in my face. It is distracting, annoying, and bad for my overall health. Any suggestions?
I would ask him what upsets him so much about you being healthy? Ask him “don’t you want me to be alive and healthy for many years?” “Don’t you want me to look smoking hot in my jeans?” As I said in my post I believe that when people “pick” or “nag” abut something like that, they are embarrassed about something lacking in their own life, and you making these lifestyle choices causes him to be different than you. It probably scares him. If he can get you to stop being healthy, he can stop feeling bad about not being healthy!! Hang in there, don’t give in.
Xoxo Elizabeth 🙂
It’s so strange how people will make you feel bad for making healthy choices, this happens a lot with female friends I think. I will choose something healthy while out to eat with friends or family and I get scoffed at with statements like “that’s it? Get something better” I think it comes from a place that they want to justify their unhealthy lifestyle, and if you are eating healthy and taking care of yourself it makes them aware of their shortcomings. I say be proud of your choices, don’t give into peer pressure. They’ll get over it, or get out of your life 🙂

My favorite quote right now is: “At first they will ask WHY you’re doing it, and then they will ask HOW you did it.”
I love this! It is so true. No matter where you are or how busy your lifestyle you can always make healthy choices. No excuses!
Some great advice here and I totally agree. Who cares what your friends say about your healthy eating habits? It’s not their business if they aren’t going to be supportive.
On the other hand, I have a huge issue because I am currently living with my parents and they are the most unhealthy people I know. It’s really discouraging because they’re older and refuse to change while poking fun at me for eating healthy. What would you do if your own family was the problem?
The same tips apply to anyone around you that has unhealthy habits : ). Do what works for you! Not anyone else. Hope that helps, babe!
Hello! I came across your website today while I was looking for recipes and stuff to kick my family back into shape because they asked me to. Thank GOD now I can finally get rid of the chips in cookies in the pantry. Anyway, I turned 15 recently and since last July I’ve been trying to lose weight! I was mildly obese during my childhood because liking food a bit too much runs in the family, but unlike my sisters, I didn’t like sports as a child. Anyway, I’ve lost like 15 pounds and I’m looking a ton better but I would still like to slim down like 10 more and have more definition in my abs and legs. My legs is where like all the bad stuff goes it’s really freaking annoying but it’s reality sooo. I was just wondering what you would consider the best way to get rid of this extra fat? I’m going to start working out in the mornings starting tomorrow & maybe going for a jog in the afternoons or something. Thank you so much!
**and cookies. there aren’t any chips in my cookies hashtag gross
My friend is shit.
