OK, OK, OK, we need ( need, need NEED ) to talk about deodorant.
It’s something we’ve never discussed on The Skinny Confidential.
Here’s why: I don’t know shit about deodorant.
I do know, that there is aluminum in deodorant used by women all the time. GROSS.
Let me back up though. We all know that Snapchat has become a super fun outlet for me & in Cabo and over the weekend you guys saw Michael making fun of me.
LOL. Basically it went like this:
Exhibit one:
us in Cabo stating on his Snapchat that I ‘forgot’ deodorant again. He doesn’t look shocked. Because I always ‘forget it.’
Exhibit two:
him staring closely into the camera, under the sheet, seriously looking like the main character in The Blair Witch Project, giving an Academy Awards ‘thank you’ speech to TSC readers who oh-so-sweetly ( seriously, thank you ) private Snapped me their favorite organic deodorants.
Exhibit three:
us walking after a day of brunch ( …it was hot out, guys ) & me putting my arms around him attempting to do a romantic, cutesy Snapchat…when he says: “looks like you ‘forgot’ the deodorant again.” To which I reply: “EW, babe- I hate chemicals!”
OK, sooooo here’s the thing: YES, I hate chemicals but that’s life & they’re in everything. If I can avoid them, TALKING TO YOU CARRAGEENAN-FILLED ALMOND MILK, I will. But some things I just can’t compromise on. For instance, I’m obsessed with Cheez-It’s, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer ( OBSESSED ), sunscreen, & protein In & Out Burgers. So if anyone is confused, I do use chemicals ( I think practically everyone does in some way ) but I try to stay away from the ones that don’t make sense to me ( AKA I buy organic, opt for organic house products like apple cider vinegar, & always remove my makeup with raw avocado or grapeseed oil ).
Life is a balancing act & I do the best I can. I do what works for ME. Do what works for YOU, always.
Because I’m certainly not perfect, don’t pretend to be, & don’t want to be. BORE.
BUTTTTTTTT.
I have a weird thing going on.
Deodorant gives me the hibbie jibbies.
Am I the only person on earth who feels like this?
HELLO? Anyone out there?
Actually, I’m not. Kourtney Kardashian agrees— she doesn’t wear it either, so maybe I’m not a total weirdo?
There’s something creepy about putting something in your arm pit SO close to your boobs & lymph nodes. I just don’t like it. Aluminum in deodorant is not for me.
Everyone is going to tell me to wear organic deodorant.
I can absolutely assure you I’ve tried Crystal, LAVANILA, Herban Cowboy, & every organic brand at Whole Foods ( see widget for ones I’ve tried ).
Nothing works. For me, at least.
Like I’m still sweaty. Not like dripping, but a little, you know?
Maybe you’re like a superstar who doesn’t really sweat & smells like a fresh periwinkle tulip ( lucky B ).
For years I’ve gotten e-mails asking “Lauryn, what deodorant do you use?”
EER, UM, WELL………..
Technically if I really have to use it, I use Dove ( green cap only, what up ). My friend, Jen, did some research because organic deodorants make her sweat as well, and this one had the LEAST aluminum in it.
But if I’m not going to be next to anyone other than Michael………..then maybe I’ll just skip it & add some coconut oil for freshness.
( Sorry babe. I know, you’ve had to endure this horrid truth for the last 6 years & I feel very bad for you ).
SO. Since the Snapchat stories came out, I have gotten 300-ish Snaps recommending deodorants. Instead of trying them all, I decided I’d turn to the people who always give me just insane advice…YOU ( I mean have you seen the latest TSC Instagram on get well soon tips? LIKE GAH, you guys are good. I’ve tried 4 of them today & I’m slowly feeling better ).
The Skinny Confidential is a compilation of my tips, tricks, professional advice, every day women, doctor recommendations, wellness gurus, supermodels, actresses, beauty experts, magazine clippings, online research, books…but it’s also your recommendations too.
Seriously. I’m not just saying that. Really, I don’t think you guys know how many products you’ve turned ME on to.
So on that note, today I’m not giving advice, I’m asking for it.
Throw all your organic, non-aluminum deodorant recommendations ( I need a STRONG one apparently according to Michael ) out there along with any facts. According to many sources aluminum in deodorant is the DEVIL so I’m open to anything & everything.
Ready, set, GO.
Sick & totally sweating from bed, lauryn x
+ see here to read an open letter on my stance on chemicals | more on armpits here.
Hi! I’ve heard that the aluminum is what keeps you from sweating, so any deodorant that doesn’t have aluminum will not prevent sweating, it will just deodorize your sweat and make it smell okay. Thanks for your time!
its like we are the same person. aka-awkward. i know. 😉 hello Gemini soul sister. hope i run into you one day and get a sweaty non-deodorant hug. xo
I gave up wearing deodorant a while ago – I never really got on with it, so I’m now permanently without. I workout 6 times a week, Olympic weightlifting, cycling and dancing, but I still never wear deodorant. I don’t smell either – and I frequently get my boyfriend (who is also my trainer!) to check (sorry love!). It helps that I don’t really sweat either – I sweat more with deodorant on.. I also wash with baby wash…it’s much gentler on my skin, and smells divine! When I did wear deodorant/antiperspirant, it would be from a brand called Mitchum, in Powder Fresh (which smells like baby powder…sense a theme here!). I’ve just checked it on this link http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ and the powerful all day long protection is only rated a ‘1’. Hope that helps 🙂
I swear by PiperWai! I’ve used it for 5-6 months and it’s been put to the test in hot yoga and summers in Georgia. You apply it with your fingers and rub onto your underarm, but it absorbs so quickly. High recommend!
Yes, agree, love PiperWai!
Agreed! PiperWai is amazing! It’s a game changer for sure- I love it. http://www.piperwai.com/
Love love love PiperWei! Obsessed.
This is great news bc I just ordered some yesterday! Thanks for the tip!
Yes!! Love this too!! Pipewai for the wind!
THANK YOU for suggesting this, I’ve been recently turned off from deodorant, but I need it. I absolutely can’t go without it and can’t really handle the smell, no offense to anyone else I swear. But it’s nearly a necessity for me. I’m going to order some right now.
Yes! I’ve tried every natural deodorant and Piperwai is the only one that works! They were on Shark Tank, so orders got really backed up, so I rec ordering a couple at a time.
PiperWai FTW! I sweat like a dude, not exaggerating, and I smell like one when I try “all natural” deodorant. Sorry not sorry, the struggle is real and most of them don’t work. I have tried literally every organic homemade chemical free deodorant on the market (because, what you said) and a girlfriend let me borrow hers when I forgot mine on a weekend trip. Anyway…IT WORKS. For real. Apparently they were just on shark tank and it was backordered lightyears so I ordered a shitton BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST AND I WILL NEVER USE ANYTHING ELSE! I think it’s charcoal based. Anyway…do it.
Thank you for the suggestion! My husband found a natural deodorant that he LOVES (Native), but it gave me a nasty red rash. So my quest for a better option led me here. I saw that PiperWai doesn’t have any Baking Soda in it, and is even gentle of Eczema. Giving it a try!
Oh, I’m so happy you brought this up! I’ve been searching for an organic or at least aluminum-free antiperspirant for about a year now. There have been some major fails, but one that worked pretty well is this: http://www.trulysnaturaldeodorant.com. Unfortunately, the baking soda in it gave me a major rash, so I had to stop using it for now (I’ve also not tried it in the midst of summer, so that may be a different story). Right now I’m trying something called HyperDri (you can get it on Amazon). It uses Peptides instead of aluminum to shrink your pores and keep you dry. Downside is that you have to use it for about a month before it starts being fully effective. I’m about 3 weeks in and can definitely tell a reduction in sweating. Recently someone told me though that any product that keeps you from sweating is bad because it keeps your body from flushing out toxins. Can’t walk around smelly and with pit stains though, so maybe this one is a good compromise?
Truly’s is awesome! I’ve used it for years and its the only thing natural or not that has worked for me. Its made of all edible ingredients so no worries about chemicals or toxins.
ok so I am the same as you, hate putting chemicals in my pits! I use the crystal when I know I won’t be sweating up a store aka casually hanging out at home. I have found it doesn’t hold up in sweaty workouts or when you are going to be out and about all day. The one deodorant I use on the regular is Kiss my Face active life it is the best I have come across, depending on which scent it rates between a 1-4 on my skin deep app (which btw I highly recommend if you don’t already have it, it rates products based on its high health concerns, cancer risks, allergy etc it was made by the EWG). 1 is the best, which I usually try to go for but I like how the app breaks it down for you.
Hey Lauryn!! I’ve been trying to find a natural alternative for awhile now and have finally found one that I love. I sweat A LOT so it’s been hard for me. But check out Schmidt’s, made in the US. They just came out with sticks, but before had jars. So you can totally choose your preference. First I bought the pack of jars and tried them all out to see which one I liked best, then bought my favorite stick, which is the Lime one! Good luck and let me know what you think 🙂
http://www.schmidtsdeodorant.com
I also love this brand and the lime one! Highly recommend 🙂
I also love this brand, but have to stop using it after a week or two, as it gives me a horrible, itchy red rash under my arms!
Thank you for a brand rec! I just ordered my first stick.
I personally use Ponyhuetchen – a Swiss company – and it´s a deodorant cream that´s all natural and organic.
The thing is there is a difference between deodorant and anti-perspirant. With great deodorant, you won´t smell but you will still sweat a bit which also you should, it´s only natural and important for your health – especially since the skin is the largest organ and just detoxes constantly – especially with the lymph nodes so close!
Anti-perspirant will also prevent any sweat (those often have loads of chemicals and also aluminium which is supposed to prevent sweating altogether). I honestly haven´t found an anti-perspirant that´s organic and all natural and works for me.
But all natural deodorant like Ponyhuetchen, the very popular Soapwalla deodorant cream (which I liked but turns out tea tree oil irritates my skin), could be a true option for you, even though, technically you´ll still sweat but it will be much more bearable!
I used Ponyhuetchen back in Germany and can highly recommend it. Do they deliver to the States?
‘Salt of the Earth’ natural deodorant. I actually heard Kourtney K uses it haha! You’ve probably already hear of it, but from what i’ve seen it’s got no aluminum in it at all, and the lavender and vanilla scented spray is so nice!! I absolutely LOVE all your posts like this, and i defo ordered some silver spray last night after watching your snaps with it haha!!
So any deodorant is going to leave you sweaty. It’s antiperspirants that block the sweat, and I don’t know any that don’t contain aluminum. So while it sucks to sweat, after a couple of weeks using a more natural deodorant the sweat stops smelling bad as long as you, you know, bathe regularly.
Got it!! This makes total sense. Thank you! : )
Hi Lauryn! I agree with Amanda. Most products on the market are antiperspirants/deodorants. The aluminum physically blocks your pores from sweating (a natural cooling and detoxifying process of your body), which is the antiperspirant part. Deodorants don’t block your sweat, but help keep you from getting stinky.
I’ve used Real Purity from Amazon, which has worked fairly well. I also noticed my boyfriend’s Dove + Men Care deodorant isn’t an antiperspirant, and it has a much stronger scent since it’s for men. It’s not natural per se, but is at least aluminum-free.
You can also go super-crunchy and make your own deodorant with ingredients like coconut oil and essential oils if you google it. I hope this helps! 🙂
Lauren
HI, Lauryn! I’m a green beauty blogger and finding a good, effective, natural deodorant is a big one here in the green community! Some of the ones that I have tried personally or know works for other green bloggers are: Meow Meow Tweet (they have one without baking soda in case that is an issue for you), Piper Wai, Schmidts, Primally Pure, Bare Bones Body to name a few. I can do a bit more digging for you too if you’d like! 🙂
This stuff is amazing! The cream consistency is a little strange at first but its just as good as the regular stuff!
http://meowmeowtweet.com/products/deodorant
Meow meow tweet is the JAM!!!!
I am also her to extol the many many virtues of Meow Meow Tweet’s deodorant. Only natural one that has worked for me and boy I’ve tried a bunch
Hey Lauren! I’m actually allergic to the majority of deodorants (even the organic ones) so I totally feel you here. My dermatologist told me years ago to just start using baby powder and that’s usually what I stick with unless I’m going to get super sweaty. In that case, I use clinical stuff. But The Honest Company has some great organic and talc-free baby powder that I just throw under my arms most days. It usually does the trick. Good Luck!
So glad you posted this. I need this advice too! I’m currently using tom’s unscented deodorant from trader joes and it is NOT working for me – aka still sweating AND smelling. Please help ladies!
I’m allergic to aluminum and it makes my armpits itch so on a day to day basis I use Arm and Hammer Essential Deodorant but for workouts and if I’m going to be hot most of the day (summertime) I use Degree’s spray deodorant. It has less aluminum. And I am a SWEATER and I like both of them!! Good luck on your search 🙂
I would recommend Meow Meow Tweet’s grapefruit deo without baking soda with you have sensitive skin. I tried other natural ones like Soapwalla (didn’t work for me) and Schmidt’s (LOVED the lime one and worked well) but I ended up with a rash due to the baking soda. I’m currently trying Love Fresh’s minty baking soda free stick but its so-so with staying power. I always go back to MMT’s grapefruit one. Even the bf uses it!
Piperwai ! It was a success story on SharkTank and it’s super affordable. The scent comes from essential oils, contains no aluminum and uses activated charcoal for the absorbency. i LOOOVE it. Check it out!
I keep hearing this is amazing!! Will have to check it out!
I can totally relate! LOL. I hate chemicals too, but I am with you on the “life is a balancing act” thing. So I feel like at times (when I have too much caffeine, stressed, or am working out really hard) I sweat a lot. Most times, I still sweat, but just a regular amount. I digress…Primal Pit Paste (in lavender) is what I have been using for about a year now, and I love it. They have other natural scents, and have the option of a stick or a jar (I use the jar). I use it day to day, and put it on twice a day for when I’m sweating more. So far, so good! Let me know if you try it, or if you find anything else that works for you. xo.
Try a spray on deodorant. I had an ex-boyfriend who researched stuff like this a lot and I would trust him with my eyes closed on his reccs. He told me to not worry about anything else and get spray on deodorant. His whole family does that too. Look into it! I use secret spray on.
Well deodorant isn’t going to help wetness, and tbh, you don’t want it to. Antiperspirant is what stops the sweating and that involves aluminum which some people feel links to Alzheimer’s. Regardless of how linked they are, sweating is good for ridding yourself of impurities, and once you stop using antiperspirant, your sweating levels tend to lower.
What causes the stink is bacteria forming in the moist areas–so deodorants with anti-microbial qualities like tea tree, rosemary and patchouli tend to help there. I used LUSH’s deodorants like The Greench and T’eo (http://www.lushusa.com/T'eo/00433,en_US,pd.html) and it really helped me break the cycle.
Primal Pit Paste in Lavender – the boyfriend did an arm-pit smell test and it passed with flying colors! And it’s coming to Whole Foods Markets in San Diego super soon!
Do you still sweat? : )
Not really! It’s my go-to. Can’t live without it.
Just ordered the primal pit paste in Jasmine. Heard lots of good things. Can’t wait to try it!
Hi Lauryn-
I battled for years to find the right deodorant and a friend introduced me to an all natural, organic deodorant from a company in SoCal called Windecker Farms. Tou can find them on IG and online. I promise once you try them you’ll never go back!!! Best decision I’ve ever made. Been using them for over a year and totally in love!!! Love their deodorant and handmade soaps!! Try them- you won’t be disappointed!!!
Hi!!! I can help!! Last summer – IN MY KITCHEN! – I created an aluminum-free, chemical-free, toxin-free organic HOMEMADE PROBIOTIC DEODORANT!!! Since developing, I have sold thousands of sticks all over the country & it works for MEN & WOMEN!!
Here’s the Deal:Most all drugstore deodorants contain these 5 potentially dangerous ingredients:
1. Aluminum, which has been linked to seizures, breast cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, bone formation disorders, and kidney problems
2. Parabens which can throw off your body’s hormonal balance
3. Propylene Glycol which is a neurotoxin that could cause damage to your central nervous system
4. Phthalates that can increase the likelihood of cell mutation and disrupt hormone receptors
5. Triclosan which is a pesticide!!
Here’s a link to my Etsy store for more information & ordering!!

Happy to answer any questions!!
<3
I am a very happy customer of Tiffany’s! Her products are amazing 🙂 Highly recommend!
Ok sooo I am italian and can be seriously stinking. I’ve found the magic formula I SWEAR to you!
TOMS for antiperspirant + a spritz of NYR organics lemon and corriander deodorant for scent (essential oils)
Then I do an Aztec clay mask on my pits, YES my pits, like I once a week. I sometimes even use the clairsonic on them!
Yes, this is real life.
xx
SO intrigued about the pit mask!
Nutribiotic Deodorant, Mango Melon, 2.6 Oz
Soapwalla’s deodorant cream! It’s kind of annoying because you have to apply it with your fingers, but Olivia Wilde recommended it and I’m obsessed. It’s made out of food grade ingredients & it’s vegan. It lasts all day and through workouts.
Another tip is if you apply hydrogen peroxide to your armpits, it kills the bacteria that make you stink. BO is from bacteria, not sweat, so killing the bacteria takes the smell away. It doesn’t usually last all day though. I like to do this if I’m staying home all day. It feels detoxifying almost.
I would recommend Piper Wai, it was featured on Shark Tank and it an all natural product! Activated charcoal included! OR I would recommend Primal Pit Paste, they have a ton of different scents to choose from.
Both are a cream that you have to apply by hand which may feel a little awkward but no chemicals makes it worth it!
Alright Guinea pig. When you figure it out you need to do an updated post. I hate wearing deodorant for this reason too. Just so weird. I hate it. So let us know!
I will DEFINITELY do a post update! : ) You can count on it!
I am SO with you! I absolutely hate putting chemicals on my skin, but it’s kind of impossible to avoid every last one!! Balance, right?!
My deodorant at the moment is from Arbonne… it sounds kind of random but I completely, 100% fell in love with a ton of Arbonne products recently (and no, I’m not even a rep! 🙂 ). Their company philosophy is amazing, and their products have been chemical free since before it was “the thing” to be chemical free. It might not be perfect… but it’s a step!
hey lauryn!! i remember seeing this post on fashionlush last year: http://www.fashionlush.com/natural-deodorant/
i ended up trying it out + it worked really well for me. :)) i’m an athlete and it withstood hours of training.
check it out!!
Ahhh! She’s my girlfriend, I missed this post & I’ll check it out!
Piperwai I hear is great. I have it on order but have not received it yet. They use active Charcole in it. I can’t wait to try it! You have to check it out.
I have the same problem i finally found two locally made hawaii brand that i like i posted one on instagram and tagged you. Its small enough u can carry around in your bag
I’ve tried everything under the sun. I think the best is Agent Nateur – completely blocks odor, but not sweat. Great, chic packaging, but I think the essential oils irritate my underarms. I put up with it because it works so well. Piper Wei from Shark Tank has been BS for me and did not work at all. Meow Meow Tweet is pretty good. I’m not crazy about the pot container and application though.
Most deodorant isn’t safe, and I have tried many of the “natural” products as well with little to no success. However, this one works really well. I have moderate deodorant needs and for the most part it keeps me smelling good. Only time I feel like it doesn’t work as well is when I wear wool sweaters but even then its not bad. May just need to reapply twice during the day 🙂 but I highly recommend this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01111IPQC?dpID=41-NE95i3sL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_SL500_SR160%2C160_&refRID=AXYP2PF6DRFBSE5Z585N&ref_=pd_lutyp_cxhsh_1_1
So glad you posted about this because I have been searching high and low for a good organic deodorant! I can’t wait to read everyones recommendations! Totally agree with this post by the way. If organic is an option I will totally go for that over others with some exceptions *cough* Cinnamon rolls *cough*. I definitely want to enjoy my life and make sure that I am living healthy, but man, a girls got to indulge every once in a while!
Well why not add in my 2 cents as long as I’m here! My brands are all Canadian (as am I) but I’ve tried them all with luck. The prices are great, plus the exchange rate is in your favor 😉
http://shopjoyous.joyoushealth.com/product/natural-deodorant-stick/
http://www.crawfordskincare.com/collections/product-list/products/lemon-deodorant-cream (love all her products)
http://www.solaskincare.com/collections/body/products/coconut-deodorant
I’m excited to look into all these other recommendations!
I prefer to use men’s deodorant, smells fresher and works well. I love Every Man Jack in Sandalwood its natural and works well. It has even won awards from Esquire multiple years in a row. Link below:
http://everymanjack.com/body/deodorant/deodorant-sandalwood.html
Good luck!
Make your own!! Omg I am stinky mama without deodorant, working out or not. My dear friend tried some recipes in her kitchen and this is what she came up with and I swear it works! It’s so good that I convinced my boo to try and he has ditched regular deodorant for good, and he smells like a freaking lavendar field.
3 TBS coconut oil
1.5 TBS baking soda
1.5 TBS arrowroot powder
A couple essential oil drops of your preference! I love lavendar and cedarwood.
Mix in a jar and you’re good! This has been a game changer! And it lasts seriously all day, and it survives long hikes in the heat of SoCal summer. Let me know how you like it! Get well soon!
I see a few others have mentioned Primal Pit Paste in Lavendar, but I also love it. Another good option that I used for a while is Stank Stop by Fat Face Skincare.
I cannot wait to go through all these comments bc I want to start making my own! But this brand, Meow Meow Tweet, is incredible and right up your alley – I loved the Lavender one but you might like the baking soda free grapefruit one – Vegan and small batch (I have zero affiliation with the company, just love them and have the same qualms with deodorant as you – in fact, my boyfriend gives me so much hell for it but he can deal! Don’t even get him started on me not washing my hair ever) : http://meowmeowtweet.com/search?q=deodorant
Excited to hear what you find! I hope you feel better – I saw you are using Silver so you might enjoy this too – this stuff is INCREDIBLE! http://www.amazon.com/Oxy-Life-Stabilized-Oxygen-Colloidal/dp/B000F7P69S
xx Shannon
Primally Pure!!!!!!! It’s made by some great folks, all natural, local (SoCal)… and here are the ingredients:
INGREDIENTS (unscented): Organic Arrowroot Powder, *Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Tallow from Grass-Fed Cows, Organic Beeswax, Baking Soda, Non-nano Zinc Oxide, White Kaolin Clay
I like the sensitive one since it has less baking soda, and no scent so it doesn’t compete with my perfume.
http://primallypure.com/products/deodorant-sensitive
OMG!! Lauryn, you haveee to try PiperWai. I’ve been using them since last year and I’m so obsessed. It’s a charcoal creme deo. I recommended it to my best friend and she lovessss it. They also were featured on Shark Tank & made a deal. It smells really good, totally reminds me of a spa.
I have literally been on a quest for a good natural deodorant for over a year! I have really sensitive skin and couldn’t find anything that actually lasted all day, through a workout, and left my skin looking nice. I FINALLY found a fabulous one. It’s made with silver, called Silver Shield Deodorant Sensitive Skin formula the spray on version. I buy it online and it comes in a nice spray bottle. You can buy the refill bottles and just refill your spray bottle. It is so long lasting, the scent is strong when you first spray it but settles to a very nice scent, and it’s all natural!
Ambre essential oil deodorant is heaven sent!!! I’m a marathon runner and it smells good all day. It’s made with olive oil, Shea butter, essential oils–it is made by a chemist who wanted all natural products and loves using scents to attract male to female:) Indianapolis based company from where I’m from!!
Lots of breast cancer survivors swear by it!!
You can’t get it on Amazon, and it’s impossible to find retail unless you’re in Indy, but you can order online. It’s the one company I will buy from forever
I have been looking for a natural deodorant that works too! It’s hard to find one. The truth is, nothing is going to keep you from sweating. They say aluminum is used as an “antiperspirant” but the truth is, it’s a toxin and can actually cause you to sweat more because your body is trying to get rid of it. The body is just made to sweat, as uncomfortable as it is.
I have been hearing good things about a lot of these cream or paste-like deodorants in jars.
I have been having the same issues as you with deodorant. Trying to find something without aluminum and chemicals that doesn’t end up with me smelling by the end of the day or sweating all day.
My mother who is also trying to find the perfect deodorant found this: http://www.piperwai.com/
I have been using it for a week now and it. is. amazing. Created by two girls who had the same issue, couldn’t find a clean, organic product that actually WORKS after working out/having a stressful day.
Only con I have with it is that it is not a roll-on. You have to rub a teeny bit on with your hand or a cosmetic wand. Which is weird at first.. but it seriously takes five seconds and I am obsessed so far.
I hope this helps! No one wants to hear about my aluminum phobia and deodorant hunt so I’m so happy to share this!!
I know this struggle all too well, I’ve tried everything! I finally found one at Whole Foods that works (at least for me) PLUS it’s scented with essential oils which makes it even better! It seriously smells SO so good. The brand is Nubian Heritage and I got the Indian Hemp and Haitian Vetiver. Seriously try it! You won’t be disappointed!
https://www.nubianheritage.com/product-types/deodorants
I had this same issue, and I tried every organic deodorant on the market until my fiancé bought me Arm & Hammer Esstentials Deoderant in Fresh (Orange cap, green lettering). It doesn’t contain Aluminum and swear to God works just as well as one that does. It’s amazing.
I totally feel you on this because I was just thinking the same thing.. literally a week ago. I just order Piperwei because I saw it on sharktank and since it was charcoal based I thought why not. It makes me a little excited to see that a few followers have suggested the same. Here is to trying new holistic approach to stinky arm pits… <3
You could also start trinking sage tea, if you dont want to use a deodorant. It reduces sweating 🙂
Please give Nature Love a try!! I’ve also tried ALL of the other natural/organic deodorants, and Nature Love is the ONLY one that works. It’s honestly my fav natural beauty product. I’m a long distance runner, so obvi I get sweaty A LOT (I also do your BBG, which also makes me break a sweat!). Nature Love is my savior. Lavender and Lemongrass are the best. I don’t like the cucumber, not as effective IMO.
Hey so what has been working for me is exfoliating really well always and then I wet the crystal with a spray of magnesium oil!
not like you don’t have a million awesome recommendations to research but I have 1 more to add. I haven’t tried it yet but plan to and my cousin swears by it. The only downside is the price, but for organic, wildcrafted, undiluted essential oils, you can’t expect them to be cheap. They apparently last a few months so I would see it as an investment considering how amazing essential oils are for the skin!
http://store.livingearthbeauty.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=poetic+pits
Try Primal Pit Paste is really good stuff, I’ve seen it at Whole Foods but only bought it online. For an extra long day I use Crystal first then after it dries I put on this stuff.
http://primalpitpaste.com/primal-pit-paste-jar-strong-lavender/
NOTHING organic or “natural” has worked for me either! The salt stick works for about 5 minutes…maybe. I did just order some Piper Wai (piperwai.com) and it’s an activated charcoal cream deodorant with not much else in it. The only downside is that you have to use your finger to grab some out of the container and rub it into your armpit. But it works!! It’s work a shot!
This stuff is good and it smells amaze:
http://soapwallakitchen.com/collections/body//products/deodorant-cream?variant=288256202
It’s organic and vegan too!
I swear by Naturally Fresh in tropical breeze. The roll on kind. Not the spray, not the crystal. Liquid on a ball. I get it at Whole Foods and it seems to do the trick for me. I also like Primal Pit Paste. It really works for me with the sweating thing, but the (non-aluminum) baking soda irritates my skin… so I save it for the gym since I’m showering right after anyway. Oh, and I saw someone else recommend sage tea. I’m gonna second that. Sage tea totally makes a difference if you commit to it. Make it with the leaves and mix in some pineapple juice. Delish.
Haha I think your my spirit sister or something because this post (and blog in general though!) Is me 1238640%. I hate chemicals, aluminum, and gross nasties in my deodarant. My family all think I’m crazy but … idk. I can’t.
Unfortunately, I haven’t found a holy grail perfection but I heared about neals remedy rose deodarant works and coconut oil with a bit of arrowroot works!
Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!
Much love,
Esmé
Have you tried Kai Fragrance deodorant? It’s aluminum, paraben, sulfate, phthalate, phosphate & gluten free. cruelty free. vegan. In recyclable packaging and made here in the u.s.a. And it smells AMAZING. I’ve switched and it’s working miracles. A MUST TRY 🙂 http://www.kaifragrance.com/shop/deodorant-p-63.html
Unrelated to deodorant or the pits: you and Michael are seriously my favorites. I just asked Michael for advice on an upcoming interview I’m freaking about because I don’t know anyone in the industry, and the fact that he responded, let alone with thoughtful advice, to some total rando is amazing to me. And you’ve answered my personal emails several times. A lot of bloggers try to maintain an air of “celebrity” and holier-than-thou, never connecting with their followers (not to mention answering them) and clearly are in it just for the profitable gain. Needless to say I don’t follow them, and I appreciate your guys’ transparency and realness times a billion.
xx
Now related to deodorant issues, I have tried every single one of the one’s you mentioned and while they might work for people who have 3 months to be in smelly sweaty “transition mode”, that ain’t me. The only ones that have worked for me are Schmidt’s (only thing is that the application is annoying) and Lemongrass Spa (except for the lavender version). Looks you’ve got an overload of options! Here’s hoping..
yes! have been waiting on a post on natural deodorant! I’ve tried Eau de Minimes and while I love the packaging and it smells good it definitely does not last throughout the day!

arm & hammer essentials works amazing and does not contain aluminum!
Hi!
I have the same concerns as you and tried everything from making my own, to trying every kind at whole foods, and nothing would work. I was in TJ Max one day and found a natural brand called Nature’s Gate. The deodorant I used is the scent Spring Fresh. It has no aluminum, parabens, or chemicals, and best of all, it was $3.99!
Hope this helps!
I’ve been using Hlavin deodorants for years (ever since I heard about the dangers of Aluminum) – it works great. I’ve never had trouble with it not lasting (yet I did with other deodorants). They have a ton of different ones. This one they say lasts 72 hours – not sure about that, but definitely 24hrs.

Piper Wai is where it’s at! That sh!t is amazing. It’s made with essential oils and charcoal. It smells amazing and really really keeps the stink away. Also, my mom is a holistic doctor and tells her patients: “zinc cures stink”. She says most stench is from a zinc deficiency.
seriously obsessed with this. your search is over.

Lavalin is THE BEST natural deodorant and you don’t need to apply it every day. Sounds too good to be true but it really is amazing. You have to make sure you don’t use other deodorants for a few days before you start. Gradually your body chemistry could even go 7 days without needing to reapply it. I’m not even kidding you that a guy could go camping for days and not shower and his pits will still not smell. I was able to go 3 days at first without reapplying and eventually it was a solid 6 days before I felt I needed to reapply. You can shower as much as you want and you don’t need to reapply after a shower. It’s a thick creamy texture when you first put it on but it disappears later. When it’s time to apply it’s best to do it at night before going to bed. This probably helps the deodorant to start working its magic before any bacteria have a chance to start creating their nastiness. My naturopath is super picky and recommended it years ago. I think I remember him saying that it won’t work on approx 5% of his clients because of something to do with their body chemistry. I think it’s made in Germany? Seriously try it! (I just read my post and it may come off like I work for the company lol…I don’t)
From WF – I like both Death by Lavender and JK Naturals Teen Formula. I still sweat – obvs – it’s CA and I exercise. But I don’t stink 🙂
I have just started using magnesium oil, and some people say that (among other benefits) they don’t need deodorant anymore when using it. http://www.foodrenegade.com/how-make-magnesium-oil/
I also like the DIY coconut oil/baking soda/essential oil deodorants some other comments have suggested. The tip I have for those is to pour them into an old deodorant container while melted for easier application.
I don’t even wear deodorant at all. So yea, I sweat, but it doesn’t smell. And I constantly ask my husband to make sure of that!! But for those who DO smell, I saw a very interesting post on Wellness Mama about detoxing your armpits with activated charcoal. The activated charcoal pulls out all the toxins and bacteria, and the bacteria are what make you smelly. You could try that for us and report back!
Anyone from the Uk wearing one? I ove Lauryns blog its become a daily bible for me as I love the quirky way of writing? But we dont get 90% of the products in the UK or if we do its always very expensive? Any tips to not spend a fortune in Holland and Barret or Wholefoods?xx
So I totally agree with you. I started to get weirded about about deodorant (and tampons) 6 months ago. I cut out as many chemicals as I can and then realized I’m applying them directly to my skin everyday. I found an amazing deodorant at the farmers market in Arizona: Simply by Nature. It’s smells great, it’s all natural and I promise it works. You can also buy it online. The one thing I recommend though is to stick with any you try for a about a month. At first your armpits have to adjust. I’m not going to lie it’s rough in the beginning. I’ve been using it for months now and it’s good now though! They an “arm pit” detox to remove the heavy metals from any previous deodorants. Just keep trying your body will adapt! It takes time trust me haha! At least that was my experience. Good luck!
Totally feel this dilemma. I recently had a baby and with breastfeeding I don’t feel right putting harsh chemicals so close to his face, I also so want it to stink there for the little guy haha. I found a water based deo, it’s pretty much water with a light scent to it. It doesn’t hold back a mean sweat but it smells fresh for most of the day without chemicals. 🙂
OK I totally know what you mean about deodorant and chemicals however I have tried the TOMS one and several other natural ones and they seriously don’t work. You may as well not wear anything rather than those because it really doesn’t warrant any results. I am still looking as well but have been using one from arm and hammer that seems to work pretty well. xx
http://modernensemble.com
I used to wear Toms and it worked fine for a couple months, then, it just was no longer effective. I think your body just gets used to it. I’ve been using the regular ones for a while now, but I’ve read online about a deodorant recipe involving baking soda, coconut oil and lavender… There are a bunch of recipes online for homemade natural deodorant, and I’ve heard that they really “do the trick”. I’m looking forward to try it myself.
In the meantime, while you are looking for the best recipe, baby powder can help. Have you tried that?
Lauryn,
Can you update us on what natural deodorant ends up being the best? I refuse to use the toxic kinds but the natural ones suck!
Comment
I haven’t worn deodorant in years because of the same reasons! My boyfriend inspired me because he has never worn deodorant because it creeps him out.. Lucky for him he always smells great. Me not so much haha but since I love making my own products I did some experimentation and found that a mix of baking soda (for odor eliminationl), arrowroot powder, coconut oil, Shea butter, and some essential oils of your choice make a great deodorant paste which keeps me smelling great all day. Keep in an adorable little jar and your all set! I like lavender or calendula + yang ylang ?
Shot me an email if you’re interested and I’ll give you all the proportions I used.
? Carolyn
Love this post-I have the same deod dilemma! The organic ones have left me that little sweaty feeling you mentioned so they’re just not worth it to me-I’d rather use dove (I use the blue cap!) or use none. Curious to check all these recommendations out!

MILK OF MAGNESIA!
My mom who knows all these weird old school remedies told me about this and it works! I use a cotton ball to apply and I wait a little for it to dry. I swear it keeps me from sweating and because I’m not sweating there is no odor.
I’m still researching about it so I only use it when I’m out and about and need it. Magnesium is technically a metal like aluminum but aluminum seems to be the main ingredient people want to avoid. People take magnesium supplements and actually ingest milk of magnesia so I doubt it can ever be as bad for us as aluminum.
I have been waiting for you to do a post on this! OK so every deodorant I have tried no matter how natural/green/organic etc. has given me painful bumps under my arms. I workout 5-6 days a week and also move around the office a lot all day so I need protection! I have found that Jason works pretty well- but I have to apply it more than once a day. I use unscented because I am petrified that scented lotions/soaps/etc will make me break out! http://www.jason-personalcare.com/product/unscented-deodorant
I have never tried it myself, but a lot of people I know have had great results using young living’s thieves toothpaste as deodorant.
This is a highly rated one and I love it! http://www.drugstore.com/soapme-with-nature-dont-sweat-it-all-natural-deodorant-citrus-fresh/qxp504002?catid=183880
Hi Lauryn,
I have heard Soapwalla beauty cream is amazing- I have yet to try it but it’s on my list.
The website I linked below has some great options as far as eco friendly/chemical free make up
(without being uber hippy and still remaining totally trendy). My cousins friend and her mom started Eco Diva Beauty. Check out some of the Ilia lipsticks and Kjaer Weis blushes! I think you would like them.

Love reading your blog! You and Michael crack me up. Keep doing what you do!
Shelby
I detoxed my armpits. I know it sounds crazy but it totally works. It reduced my sweating and then I just use some essential oils. Here’s the link to find out more about detoxing your armpits.
http://wellnessmama.com/25432/detox-your-armpits/
Hi Lauryn! So I am in a similar situation and have a couple of suggestions. As a precursor, I am not a huge sweater, but I get awful BO. Like, AWFUL. And it will fill up a room…so I can’t afford to have deo that doesn’t work (and I echo that Lavanila and Crystal didn’t do it for me). So far I have found a few options that work well!
1. Arm and Hammer ‘Essentials’ Deodorant: This would be my top choice. It is aluminum free, keeps my BO at bay even on active days (which says A LOT) and is cheap. Like, real cheap. I think I paid like three bucks for it at the grocery store. I bet Walgreens/CVS has it too. Also, Arm and Hammer was involved in a class action settlement because they labeled the deodorant as “natural” even though it had an ingredient called Triclosan in it which can potentially be harmful. However, since then they have removed Triclosan.
2. Weleda Wild Rose Deodorant Spray: This spray is surprisingly effective at keeping my BO in check. I have been wearing it all week to work, but haven’t tested how it holds up during my workouts (I use Arm & Hammer before working out, the Weleda after I shower). I also really like the rosy smell.
I’m sorry for what was the most long-winded comment ever. Hopefully it is helpful!
I have never found an organic deodorant I have liked BUT if you are looking into alternatives botox for your armpits may be worth looking into.
I’m trying to make the switch myself! I just purchased Schmidt’s Bergamot and Lime (find it on amazon) and so far I’m in love. I can do my workouts without smelling terrible. I had to detox my pits for a few weeks before trying it but it sounds like you do that anyway so you should be good. Some of the reviews said the baking powder can give you a rash but I haven’t experienced it and I’m pretty sensitive. I also have some PiperWai on order, from Shark Tank. Check it out! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
http://schmidtsdeodorant.com/phone/lavender-sage-stick.html
This stuff is incredible. I’ve tried tons of dumb natural deodorants and I swear they made me smell worse. This stuff seriously works! The only thing… Do not wear it for intense workouts.. For some reason it burns like a mofo.. but for everyday use its awesome. The Lavender and Sage is my favorite scent! Here are the ingredients:
• Ingredients: Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Lavandula (lavender) essential oil, Salvia sclarea (clary sage) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E)
I personally use the Déodorant Longue Durée NUXE Body. It’s a great deodorant and doesn’t contain alcohol or parabens! xx
First I’m sure you know (or if someone else already said it sorry, there are lots of comments!) but a deodorant doesn’t stop you sweating, it just stops you smelling. Anti-perspirants are what will stop you sweating (not that I’ve found any of these that work either).
If you want something natural that will stop you smelling though try this recipe: http://wellnessmama.com/1523/natural-deodorant/ I have used it for a few months now and love it. I still sweat (though it does seem I sweat a little less) but I never smell from it. I use the second recipe and have done it both with and without essential oils. So easy to make and it lasts ages. Definitely worth giving it a go (some have stated the baking soda makes them come out in a rash though so maybe test just a little bit first).
I use “ohmygaia” for deodorant and it’s amazing! only ingredients are arrowroot, coconut oil, shea butter, and essential oils.
Primal pit paste – the jacked up jasmine scent. You can buy it on Amazon, you don’t have to put it on with your fingers because it comes in a stick, and my husband approves it. Also, it’s ok to sweat, you gotta detox somehow, but you don’t need to smell. Also the crystals stuff is useless.
All the women in my family use this roll on http://www.amazon.com/Alvera-Natural-Roll-On-Deodorant-Herbal/dp/B0014ARGVG
It it LEGIT. Not an anti-perspirant but it seriously kills any smell. It works for a while and I can even re-apply it if I notice any stink and it goes away! Love this stuff.
Ok so NOTHING natural was working for me, I tried everything at Whole Foods and then did online research. I heard about Schmidt’s and long story short, I now have every one of their scents. I have the jar (paste) and the sticks. I am literally bone dry all day long, it’s amazing. Here are the ingredients:
– arrow root powder
– coconut oil
– baking soda
– jojoba
– essential oils for scent
– vitamin E
And that’s it! Good luck!
Hi! I snapped you what I am currently using: ZAK DETOX DEODORANT. They were kind enough to reach out to me via my blog and send me a sample to try and review. They are a local company for me, being in Colorado, and I love any opportunity to support my local area. I have been in an deodorant emergency recently too. All the crap in it grosses me out, BUT the only kind that has worked for me is SECRET CLINICAL STRENGTH SPORT (*do NOT read the ingredients… you just might die… that’s why I am on the hunt for natural). I tried JÄSON for a while, but get this, it gave me a HORRID rash. Like beyond nasty red, itchy bumps. So I ditched that and went back to my chemically filled deo. Then, ZAK reached out to me. I have been using it for a week now, no sweat, no stink! And FYI, I am an INSANE crossfitter (AKA lots of sweat). The only thing though, and if someone could please help ME too, the rash is starting to come back!!! To your readers: is this normal? Part of the “detox”? Or am I just allergic to some common natural ingredient? Thanks guys! xoxo Emily
You need to try Soapwalla – Organic / Vegan Deodorant Cream – It’s the only one that works for me.
I switched to Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant when I realized that the aluminum in my Secret “prescription strength” was turning all my shirts yellow. Eww. It’s a great deodorizer but not the best antiperspirant. I’ve also heard good things about Schmidt’s Scent Free.
I recommend Agent Nateur. It’s natural but still chic and smells great, which is so hard to find. http://www.agentnateur.com
Try Tom’s deodorant, but the men’s one! I feel like it’s a lot stronger since it’s meant for men ;). Also, I know how obsessed you are with lemons! I hear that rubbing lemon on your underarms is a good natural deodorant, too!
LAURYN-
You have probably received a zillion replies & recommendations already…but if you still haven’t found the perfect deodorant- try Truly’s!!!
It’s ingredients:
organic coconut oil
organic powdered sugar
baking soda
beeswax
that’s it!
You could obviously try making this on your own i’m sure…it’s on my to-do list…
it comes in a little pot and you have to apply it with your fingers which is a little awkward, but literally a little bit lasts STRAIGHT UP 24 hours–
I’ve tried every deodorant out there, even ones with gross aluminum- and nothing has ever worked that great for me until i found this miracle genius insane amaze product
I cannot speak highly enough of this stuff!!
Good luck if you try it out mama xx
http://www.trulysnaturaldeodorant.com/
I use one from Dr. Mercola! It’s been a gamechanger for me. It even works through hot yoga, I never smell. Good luck!
Hi! I was one (of many) who snapped you a suggestion, and I stand by it! Check out Primally Pure: http://primallypure.com/products/deodorant. I’ve been using their deodorant for 4 months and I just love it. I’ve found that the sensitive formula works best for me. And I work it hard! Spin class, 8+ hr work days, nervous speeches, etc. It took a week or so for my body to adjust to it (idk if your pH levels need to balance out or what) but I swear I sweat less now than I used to.
It’s great because you don’t put it on with your hands or a wipe. Feels like a traditional deodorant, only good for you 🙂

Hi Lauryn! I feel the same and use this one I found at Mother’s Market! It’s super light and the citrus blossom scent is my favorite!
http://www.amazon.com/Zion-Health-Minerals-Deodorant-Blossom/dp/B0044EYB5I
I also picked up this recently from Mother’s too and like it so far!

Girl, make your own! There are a ton of recipes for DIY all natural deodorant out there. My mom made me a jar of some and it works great.
I use Toms in a pinch but it needs to be reapplied midday to keep me from smelling weird and it is definitely NOT an antiperspirant.
Lauren,
I stopped using conventional deodorant two years ago, it was an interesting transition as I’m sure you are aware of. After many trial and errors I found rubbing a lemon on my underarms keeps the smell away and applying talc-free baby powder after keeps me dry (as I’m writing this i am wondering if rubbing raw fresh ginger would work also?hmm…idea!). Sometimes I switch it up and use the natural deodorant brand -Meow Meow Tweet. I use their tea tree oil (as I’m sure you know tea tree is antibacterial) scented deodorant and always apply the talc-free baby powder on top. I wrote a blog post about the lemon and baby powder and linked below. hope this helps!
http://thealexrose.com/how-i-use-lemon-in-my-natural-beauty-routine/
Hello,
BE CAREFUL with the organic brands that claim to be organic! Ie. Tom’s deodorant still has aluminum!
Aluminum does not cause breast cancer, but honestly doesn’t do anything good for you, please see the below quote from cancer.gov
“luminum-based compounds are used as the active ingredient in antiperspirants. These compounds form a temporary plug within the sweat duct that stops the flow of sweat to the skin’s surface. Some research suggests that aluminum-based compounds, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin and cause estrogen-like (hormonal) effects (3). Because estrogen has the ability to promote the growth of breast cancer cells, some scientists have suggested that the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants may contribute to the development of breast cancer (3).”
Anyway, deodorants forever and check ingredients!
I’ve just started using Sage Lime Organic Deodorant by Vermont Soap Works and I LOVE it!! it really does stop the smell a bit. http://shop.vermontsoap.com/Sage-Lime-Organic-Deodorant_p_118.html
The ingredients are: 100% organic coconut oil, cornstarch, essential oils and beeswax.
That’s it!! Hopefully you try it!!
So glad you posted this Lauryn. I’ve been avoiding chemical deodorants for a while but have yet to find a natural one that is as powerful which is normal… So if I am going to workout in a class with a bunch of other people I`ll wear regular deodorant but the rest of the time, natural is enough. I really like Toms and Crawford Street skincare has a great cream deodorant (lemon scented) too.
Sorry! Forgot to share the link to the blog post I wrote about Crawford Street skincare and their amazing natural beauty products.
http://redfairyproject.com/2014/12/crawford-street-skin-care-natural-beauty-with-amazing-results/
Ok, this sounds crazy but after trying natural deodorants a homemade recipe worked best BY FAR. Zero stink – 1/4 cup arrow root, 1/4 cup baking soda, 6 tbsp coconut oil and 20 drops lemon essential oil. Seriously, I was shocked. Works SO WELL!
Girl, don’t worry about it! I don’t wear deodorant either! People always tell me I’m gross, but why would I put something on my pits if I don’t need it??
My dad doesn’t wear it either! And he’s 60! Never has! So don’t feel like you need to just because people tell you to! OR because you think.
The Holistic Science Company’s Odor D-Fense. Love it!
This stuff from Lush is a game-changer!
First time ever testing it out was in Mexico heat/humidity and it is amazing.
http://www.lush.ca/The-Greeench/03632,en_CA,pd.html
I don’t use deodorant on most days either, but for Summer I can’t get away without using one. The one that I really like is Whole Clarity, you will love it too!
Something that works amazingly well is rubbing your armpits with apple cider vinegar before a shower – then washing like normal and brushing on some baking soda with an old makeup brush afterwards. Doesn’t stop sweating (no antiperspirant…) but at the end of the day your armpits smell like NOTHING. I sweat a lot but hate smelling like deodorant (they all smell weird at the end of the day, don’t they, or is it just me?), and when a super healthy friend of mine told me about this I had to try. Better, cheaper and healthier. Not going back 🙂
I have tried every deodorant out there also. I recently found Schmidts https://schmidtsdeodorant.com/?gclid=CIi-vpWU58sCFQktaQodzN8HAQ and it really works!
I struggled for years to find something that I liked. So now I either go without or use http://fatfaceskincare.com/stank-stop-deodorant/

A friend of mine has created a Deodarant line that is completely organic and IT WORKS. She’s been featured in tons and tons of magazines: Vogue, Art of Organics, The Coveteur, The Hive, and many many more! I really freaked out when I learned what was in my deodorant and being in a family where breast cancer is common I jumped ship immediately! Hope you enjoy 🙂

I have tried them ALL as well, and have found a few that actually do work! I did a post on it that you can find at http://plumjoyful.com/natural-deodorants-that-actually-work/ it took me years to find completely natural ones that work as well as the ones filled with chemicals, and these are the best of the best.
http://www.plumjoyful.com
Hey girl! So I’ve been searching for a natural deodorant as well and I’ve tried a bunch of them. I’m absolutely obsessed with Benjamin Soap Co.’s “Woodberry” scented deodorant. It smells like a freaking bath and body works candle!! And the ingredients are super simple and clean. And the best part, I’ve never had to reapply in a day! I mean yeah a sweat a little but nothing compared to other natural ones, but I don’t smell when I sweat when I wear this one! Also if you check out the ingredients, it sounds like it’d be easy to DiY with coconut oil, baking soda and essential oils. Over all, If you’re looking for something to dry up the sweat that’s not aluminum, I think you’re gonna have to use some sort of powder, maybe cornstarch? Good luck, babe!
Try the crystal* but instead of water to soften it, I use bergamot or lavender for extra strength. I.e. Workouts or outings. Bergamot burns a little if you have shaved, but the coconut barrier could help!
I don’t know if anyone posted about Ursa Major deodorant yet, but a friend recommended it to me. It’s from Burlington, Vermont. You have wait a couple of days to allow it to work and detox any other products that you may have been using. It’s advertised as a men’s product, but it seriously works and is 100% aluminum and toxin free.

THIS one has been my life saver – I threw out all of my ‘usual suspect’ brands about a year ago and wearily tried this one, after having a couple fails with co-op and Whole Foods brands. This one, seriously, is amazing. Smells like lavender, goes on easy, and WORKS. Just bought a new one yesterday!

The gals at GP’ GOOP site just posted an article on their recommendations for some deodorants!!!!!!

If you are still looking for a deodorant, I recommend this one! It’s natural, effective, and I think you would totally vibe with the aesthetic.

I have finally found what works perfect for me. It’s a little extra work because I use two types in combination. First I apply a good amount of the “Crystal” salt. I let that dry while I get ready for the day. Once that is dry I use “Clean” deodorant. The pink scent…it has cotton in it to help with moisture, but without the salt I notice odor later in the day. The two together have been working great for me. Thanks for this post and spreading good info about aluminum.
Hello there,
My husband and I formulated an Holistic Armpit Detox Deodorant call BEDO.
We’ve had great response. It is specially formulated to benefit breast cancer survivors and kidney dialysis patients. In addition, we seek to meets the needs of the intrinsically health conscious as well as individuals who have been advised by their medical doctor, to avoid use of conventional deodorant/antiperspirant.
-would love for you to try and get your feedback.

Have you tried @LemongrassSpa.com? We have 3 types of deoderant that does not have aluminum. One is a stick. Another is a paste and the last is a spray. Apparently, the spray doesn’t work well by itself. You need the paste and then the spray if you choose to use the spray. However the paste can be used alone and the stick can be used alone. Unfortunately, some people have a reaction to the baking soda in the paste. Makes their pits sore. But we have something called “healing balm” (AMAZING STUFF that I am obsessed with). You should remove the paste every night and then put the Healing Elements balm on. It helps. There are several “flavors” as I call them. One is even for “Sporty” people. Let us know if you purchase it how you like it. You have up to 60 days to return it if you don’t like it, so it’s a no-lose situation.
I had a hard time finding a natural deodorant that worked but so glad I found Korina natural deodorant. It comes in several scent and is made with organic coconut oil and best of all … no more stink! i recommended to friends and family and they love it too.i like cedar and tea tree, really fresh. i think the website is KorinaNaturals.com or you can google korina natural deodorant.
Native deodorant. Made in USA (San Francisco). It is the best!
I’ve searched high and low for a natural/organic deodorant the past couple of years. I’ve tried many that were available to me in my grocery store or health food market, such as Tom’s, Primal Pit Paste, Jason, Piper Wai, etc. However, none of them held up to the promise of working effectively. I was okay with using an all-natural deodorant, but then read some interesting points on a blog about synthetic processes and manipulations in labs even for all-natural ingredients. This made me want to find something completely organic, which I then came across and tried several brands. I’ll spare you the details, but I’ve had great luck with Lavender & Leaf, as they are a small business focused on providing the best ingredients possible at an affordable price. Natural and organic deodorants are not cheap! My only complaint would be that I wish they had a scent for my husband! Their website is http://www.lavenderleaf.com. Hope this helps someone!
Schmidts is good for me but I can’t get my husband to use it because it smells “to girly”. We just found him a brand called Uncle Jack’s Deodorant and he loves it. They sell it on amazon or http://www.allnaturalmensdeodorant.com
I wear the Grannys Natural Organic deodorant from http://www.grannysnaturaldeodorant.com. It is gentle on my armpits. I can go 2 days without using it again. It doesn’t leave me stinky. I found out about it from the highschool football coach. His team buys it. I love the lavender, however, it comes in all scents and even unscented.
Was a Piper Wai user but switched to Schmidt Natural Deodorant. It keeps me dry which Piper wai didn’t and odor free. The scents they have are amazing
I love Schmidts Ylang Ylang and Calendula deodorant –

Although I will say, when I cut out garlic and onions for a few weeks, I really didn’t need deodorant. But I know you’re a garlic freak ?
Oh and if you’re willing to rub it in your armpits yourself, I personally like the deodorant jar over the stick.
That’s right! Aluminum is the ingredient that prevents sweating so without it being an active ingredient in your deodorant you will sweat away, how sad huh?!
As much as I love the idea of natural deodorant, none of them actually make a difference for me. Especially during the summer months, my sweat is out of control. I’ve always had issues with over-sweating my entire life. A few months ago I read an article about different deodorants and Certain-Dri was listed on there. I was hesitant to stray away from the all-natural but I knew I needed a deodorant with an extra kick to it. I’ll tell you this stuff is amazing. It stays on even after my outdoor workouts in the summer heat! Now I can work all day and then run to happy hour with the girls without feeling self-conscious the entire time. It’s worth a look into for sure: https://www.certaindri.com/content/25-what-do-i-need-to-know-about-antiperspirants
Thanks for sharing Shay! I have a weird thing about armpits and chemicals but I’ll definitely do some research on this brand. xx
Try using jungleman all natural deodorant, buy it from junglemannaturals.com it is organic and aluminum free
Thanks for the suggestion Morgan! Will check them out. xx
Pit Paste. 100% will work and is totally natural. Anti perspirant and deodorant.
Wow deodorant usually causes dark skin after. But i think a dermatologist can do a better job in helping you to assess that problem.
hello!! Natural deodorants make me sweat like crazy too, it also gives me a rash that also comes with itchiness , and I’m using a deodorant with powder as its first ingredient. What I do is buy regular deodorant antiperspirant and put very little under my arms. Because if I don’t use deodorant I start smelling like an onion which is not pretty , let me tell you. Right now I’m using schimdt lavender and sage deodorant stick and Jason calming lavender stick .
Juvena 24h deodorant. Sans alcohol nor aluminium. No smell and keeps me dry all day long. I really recommend It

Editor from More magazine Jonny Lichtenstein recently got involved in dangerous coraption business with crazy CBS anchor Otis Livingston to steal money from InStyle magazine employees bank accounts. Never trust Jonny Lichtenstein and Otis Livingston they belong in prison!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Hey, you should try The Takesumi Charcoal detox deodorant.
I have not tried it yet but Kopari has a deodorant without aluminum. I am going to check it out and see if it works.
Let me know if it does, always looking for a new one. x
Although the natural charcoal deodorant works just like regular deodorants, it does even more to the skin and is an excellent antiperspirant. Also, due to its natural ingredients, you can be certain of little or no adverse effects, except for allergies.
HI! You need to try Bare Pits organic pit care & natural deodorant products, extra strength and magnesium enriched. All aluminum and baking soda free that work so naturally with your body. Customers die for our love rose and lavender vanilla. The vegan magnesium deodorant spray is definitely a favorite especially to travel and after work outs.
I have hyperhidrosis, which means I’m always excessively sweating all the time when regular people are just barely sweating. The only thing that works for me is this extra strength deodorant called Certain Dri. Because of my condition, i can’t really choose an organic deodorant so Certain Dri really does the job!
Spray bottle
1/4 c everclear or vodka
2 tsp white vinegar
Essential oil if your choice
Just spray it on, works like a charm, refresh as needed.
Splash white vinegar or apple cider vin on pits after soaking up in shower
interesting will check it out! thank you for the suggestion 🙂
I just wrote a blog with my tried & tested best natural deodorants for 2020! Check it out 🙂
