Weirdly enough, I’ve gotten a lot of Snap messages asking about my lifetime deodorant search.

Perhaps it’s because Michael loves to make fun of me on Snapchat about how I hate wearing deodorant. I tell him “I forgot it.” But really, I didn’t forget anything, I just don’t like it.

Sorry but it’s just not my thing.

You guys know this ( remember this post? ).

However, I’ve decided that I’m making it my mission to find the PERFECT, ORGANIC, ALL-NATURAL deodorant based on recommendations and trial & error.

To be very honest, I am still in process with my search. It’s not easy finding the perfect deodorant. In the meantime, I figured I’d share deodorants that YOU GUYS recommended to me.

Yes that’s right, basically you guys are in charge of this post.

Expect a third post too because I’ll do a final post to round this out on my personal deodorant search. I’ve been testing for months so stay tuned.

So naturally, I had to put together ALL your recommendations in an organized fashion. Basically I tallied up all your Snap messages, e-mails, Instagram recommendations, comments, etc. into a chart breakdown.

Here were the final stats, DRUMROLL PLZ:

As you can see, we literally created an excel sheet & slowly put this together…with your guys’ opinions! So thank you, as always, for sharing your experience. That’s what The Skinny Confidential is all about: a community of women ( or men? ) coming together to share tips & tricks. None of that “I don’t remember where I got this shirt” thing. LOL. We all know that one person who doesn’t want to share the love!

Ok, so let’s get specific. Some deodorant reader favorites were: Piper WaiPrimal PitSchmidt’s, Meow Meow Tweet ( UM I need to try the grapefruit immediately ), & LAVANILA.

Pretty sure all of these are all-natural which is exactly what we’re all looking for, right? Remember I have some weird complex with putting deodorant by my boobs, LOL.

deodorant-poll-3-by-the-skinny-confidential

The thing is, I am still trying all of these deodorants. I can’t give my opinion yet because I’m still in the process. So many of you have asked about my deo journey that I figured I’d give you an update AND share reader recommendations.

Right now, I’m using Primal Pit & actually really like it. Let’s just say I don’t smell like shit? The lavender one specifically. I DO look forward to trying grapefruit Meow Meow Tweet too. Will keep you updated, give me a few more months of testing.

For the record, Tom’s deodorant doesn’t do it for me. At all. I sweat too much with it.

So that’s where I’m at.

Another specific breakdown for you, if you’re not a pie chart person…

MEANWHILE, I’ll be testing all of these to figure out which one is best. If you have insider deodorant info, please share it below. I will say one thing: I’m convinced aluminum-filled deodorant is NOT the way to go.

Here’s why…according to this source: “Aluminum compounds within deodorants act as a plug within the sweat ducts and temporarily stop the flow of sweat. However, these compounds can be absorbed by your skin. Just as the parabens, these compounds can mimic estrogen, which promote growth of breast cancer cells.

deodorant-poll-5-by-the-skinny-confidential

MANY, many sources say to avoid these, “most common deodorants on the shelves like Axe, Secret, Old Spice, Dove, Right Guard typically contain aluminium.” There’s 6 more harmful ingredients besides aluminium too, more on those nasty 6 here.

I feel so silly for being so ignorant about what I put under my armpits every single day, several times a day. Can’t wait to see which is working best for you Lauryn, thanks for making us think about these things 🙂 x

It’s so important to pay attention to the things you reach for everyday. Those will have the most impact on your health. Thank you so much for the support Yara! <3 xx

PSA.. the “long lasting” Toms deodorant made my armpits have a small rash and itch a lot.. after googling it sounds like that is super common.. so I switched to the normal Toms and it’s been fine, no skin reaction. Just an FYI for people who use Toms!

Hey lauryn, thank you so much for doing a follow up on this topic! I have spent the last few months trying to find a better deodorant without all the nasty crap in it. It’s rough! A lot of the products out there dont seem to work well (hello gross stinky pits post workout!). I finally stumbled across this deodorant https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NQIKQVG/ref=pd_aw_vtph_0_lp_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GFS5BMWN9ZZBQZ0XME2H and I LOVE it! It’s smells amazing (peachy coconut) and it actually works! It also seems to be one of the cheapest deodorants out of the contestants.

I highly recommend you give it a try!

It’s SO hard to find a quality deodorant. I will definitely check this one out. So excited! Thank you so much Avi! xx

I’ve been hating deodorant lately, it’s not working and it gets all over clothes, just annoying. I recently came across a beauty instagrammer (farahdhukai) and she says to use fresh lime juice! I haven’t tried it yet, but that may be an all natural…very simple/cheap solution for deodorant?! Not sure if you’ve heard of her, but she uses a lot of natural remedies for beauty products.

lemon works as well! but the only thing to keep in mind is that these citrus fruits make skin more sensitive to sun so be careful if you’re exposing your skin to the sun!

I’ve used some of those and I just got a new one yesterday I am trying, Agent Nateur holi(stick), that I’ve heard good things about. Other then that I continue to go back to Crystal, the original one you have to run under water before use. It does not stop me from sweating but it does kill bad odor and I like that it has no fragrance. Another thing I use on occasion is Pacifica Underarm Deodorant wipes. I use these on days I don’t shower when I want to really feel clean and not just cover up.

Not to give too much information…
But I am a runner (aka sweaty, always) from Laguna Beach but currently live in the heat trap that I call New York City. My bf’s sister and mom were trying natural deodorants (I got a homemade batch that didn’t leave me smelling pretty) and so I finally went to my W Village pharmacy and tried the Weleda Rose deodorant. It works SO well, better than any other natural one and honestly better than Degree or Dove. I highly recommend – the vanilla didn’t work well for me, but this one is incredible and I’m amazed that after running in the heat and humidity, plus going into the pits of subway hell, by how well this spray works.

I havent tried it yet, but supposedly coconut oil + baking soda works, and you can scent it how you please. And also, this I have tried, but just milk of magnesia! I forget most days and also secretly love my ripe scent, if I haven’t been eating meat its grapefruity, odd I know but hey…

Hi Lauryn! Normally I use Schmidt’s but I ran out and forgot to order more (oops!), while I was waiting I found a Tom’s that I gave up a while back, but since it was my only option I went with it. It gave me the worst reaction. SO, I entirely stopped using deodorant until the rash subsided. However, when I did want to go out and I knew I was going to sweat, I literally just mixed a half teaspoon of baking soda and water together and just patted some on my armpit. Sorry if it’s TMI, but it actually worked better than ANY deodorant I’ve ever used!

    P.S. Love all your posts!

i’ve also struggled with finding a natural deodorant because i did not want anything potentially toxic so close to my boobs and lymph nodes and i’ve tried soooo many options but none of them quite worked so i understand your struggle! none of the available options quite worked because my skin was not a fan of the baking soda (even the tiniest bit caused irritation and pigmentation – ugh!!) and the wax / oils (left stains on clothing). i started making (and now selling) my own with magnesium since it is so good for skin and overall health and it works! if you’re sensitive to baking soda or prone to skin pigmentation, i suggest looking into clean magnesium deodorants without any added preservatives or chemicals! i actually feel good using it since i know anything i absorb into my body is good for me.

I’m always in such of a good all-natural deodorant. I started with Toms and hated it. Toms worked as well as not using any deodorant at all. But, I recently was told about Bare Bones Body Care and I am now obsessed. It’s non-toxic, cruelty-free and organic.

Seriously, thank you so much for this!! I’ve literally been struggling to find an effective natural deodorant for over a year now! I tried Toms as well and it didn’t do it for me either (seriously jealous of people who aren’t super sweaty and can use 5 dollar deodorant!) I also tried Primal Pit Paste but my skin is way to sensitive for it and it burned my underarm. Anyways, I’m going to try PiperWai & Meow Meow too; can’t wait for your final review!

I can’t wait to see what you end up choosing & not gonna lie LOVE the charts – such a fun touch! Seriously, this is probs one of my favourite posts LOL I was one of the ones who suggested Meow Meow Tweet (I mean, that name tho!), and still stand by it – tried Schmidt’s to spice up the variety, but I preferred MMT. I used the lavender one but would LOVE to hear what you say about the grapefruit one! I also love that you are talking about this and wish that my boyfriend would join ship! xx Shannon

I’m currently testing out Kaia’s new Sumi Detox Charcoal Deo and loving it. It takes three weeks to take full effect and detox your pits but its much easier to apply than cream versions and it smells like roses~

You realize that deodorant isn’t supposed to keep you from sweating, right? And straight deodorant – like ALL those you liked to – make no claims about keeping you from sweating.

ANTI-PERSPIRANT is what keeps you from sweating and what usually contains aluminum.

For the record, LaVanilla is my jam.

I have been using Nubian Heritage Coconut & Papaya 24 hour All natural deodorant – smells amazing, more like vanilla!! I found it for less than $6 at Walmart, but I just googled it and you can find it on amazon, ulta, etc!

So right now I’m using Ban which is definitely not natural (although I haven’t looked at the ingredients so I assume Aluminum is in there). I haven’t found a natural deo that I like but I have to use something because I work a corporate job and I can’t risk being smelly. I used coconut oil in college and it was great! I still sweat but I didn’t have BO which is really what’s necessary. My only thing was I had to be careful to put it on early enough before I got dressed that it didn’t get on my clothes. I can’t wait to hear what you end up liking!

thanks for this follow up post! i had recommended one of the la vanilla deodorants but after a few weeks of using it i begun having an allergic reaction to it and experienced irritation. since then i’ve tried the crystal essence white tea & lavender one (saw on @fashionlush snap) which i liked for a while but eventually had the same problem. i have really sensitive skin so its been hard finding one my skin/body agrees with! just recently the two i’ve been trying are the unscented arm & hammer one, and one recommended by a co-worker called herban cowboy in blossom (kinda lame name but it does smell pretty good!)

think the next one on my list to try is the schimdt’s rose + vanilla one mentioned in this post (:
thanks for sharing all these recommendations!

I have two brands I just came across and didn’t see them on your list so I wanted to put them on your radar as well 👯
They are called Kaia Naturals & Hippy Pits. I’m waiting to try them 🙂

Also, since I’m helping you out, maybe send that giveaway my way… Just sayin’ 😉

Hi there!! My mama and I have been on this same quest – our favorites are a brand called “nature love” (my mom loves the lavender, but I prefer the lemongrass) and “Jason” brand, the lavender scent (we’re lavender gals) I prefer Nature Love because it goes on clear, dries immediately, and doesn’t leave you feeling like you have the same coat on for 7 days and 7 showers. Worth a try!

I recently learned at Sprouts in the wellness section that there is a correlation between those that have used aluminum-based deodorants throughout their lives and Alzheimers! Those with Alzheimers showed to have a build up of aluminum in their brains actually. Pretty scary.
