How To Create A Pretty, Modern Birth Announcement Just The Way You Want It

It should come as no surprise that I wanted Zaza’s birth announcements to look a very particular way. As always, there was an idea floating around in my head & I needed to find someone who could bring it to life.

Hello Bliss & Bone.

You may remember me talking about them ( like a lot though ) because they did our wedding invitations AND our baby shower invites & menus. And again, everything was perfect, obviously.

Just for a little refresh, our wedding invites were really moody – think black calla lilies, goth, dark – I was obsessed.

For Zaza’s shower it was a crocodile theme, inspired by Patricia Altschul from Southern Charm, & we threw in girly & masculine touches because we were doing the gender reveal at the shower. For more on Zaza’s shower invitations, scope this post & for everything else baby shower stalk these posts: one, two, three.

Birth Announcement Card Tips

Choosing the theme

Creating a personalized birth announcements may not be so difficult as you thought.  Choose a theme that suits your child’s tone and vibe and go from there.   If you are having difficulty finding a theme, you can get inspirations from Pinterest or you can Google them up and make some tweaks.

The vibe

Of course we wanted to send good vibes to our family and friends.  Create beautiful photos of your bundle of joy and add them in our design like photo cards.

Color palette

Choose the right tone and color of your choice.  If you are having difficulty selecting your color palette, there are lots of available color guide online.

Other specific details for the card

Aside from layout and design of your birth announcement card, do not forget some of the important details like baby announcements and save the dates.  Also pick the material of your choice.  Will it be glossy or matte, paper thickness, texture, etc.  You can visit your local printer and they can assist you with the details you need.

Have fun!

Bliss & Bone JUST GET IT. They know how to set the scene, tone & vibe. The announcements had to be unique to Zaza & I wasn’t into something super pink.

Cindy, the founder, paid attention to every single detail, like she always does. From the wax seal, to the postage stamp, to the envelope, to the announcement card inside, she worked with me every step of the way. I always have these ‘visions’ of what I want, but a hard time getting my point across, but Cindy always comes through.

The announcements were nude & white with pops of black, neither masculine or feminine, but a medley of both. It was also fun to incorporate the alligator from the baby shower but make it more Zaza.

The envelope was thick & black with a vintage alligator stamp that we took from an old cocktail ad from the 1950s. Then we did a wax seal which I wanted to look ‘antique-ish’ with a Z on it.

Inside the envelope was a thick card that had a photo of Zaza, shot by the amazing newborn photographer Patty Othon ). She’s so incredibly talented, I couldn’t be happier with all the photos she took.

On the back of the card are more pictures shot by my friend & main photographer Arielle Levy. She came to the hospital & took pics of Zaza when she was first born. We peppered in those photos along with my & Michael’s personality into the copy.

As you can see it says:

Zaza Princeton Bosstick

A little late on this announcement, but if that doesn’t perfectly explain mommyhood, I don’t know what does.

Needless to say, we are absolutely obsessed with her. She’s already manipulating Michael with her big blue eyes.

( Then on the back we put her stats, like time & place of birth, weight etc. )

Bliss & Bone are kind of amazing because not only do they do cards, they also curate your website. So they did our wedding website, which was so perfect & helpful, & I love how they do a whole 360 approach.

Anyway, again I just can’t say enough about Cindy and Bliss & Bone. They literally make your vision come to life, they have great options for print & digital invites & I’m always blown away & SO HAPPY with the invites & announcements they do.
