CHILL OUT: A Refreshing Night In

a sassy night in the skinny confidential the perfect night in with audible | by the skinny confidential

There is NOTHING, & really I mean nothing better than a planned night IN. I’m talking a do nothing, no e-mails, no work, just relaxing night in. Spending time alone with my dogs & chilling on my own terms.

As you know, I’m very specific about this. The vibe has to be on point, you know? I’m sure a lot of you are the same way.

When I have a night to myself it’s not just the typical bath, candles, read a magazine deal. I make the whole night an experience because it happens so rarely ( BOO ).

A few Fridays ago I had the house completely to myself & for once, my work to-do list was not too bad. Obviously immediately I thought: OMG I NEED TO DO A POST ON THIS. If you’re running around like a chicken with your head cut off, step back, relax for a night & take a refresher. Your work will actually end up being stronger the next day if you refuel.

It’s such a cop out to claim we have no time, but OH we all do it.

So take a night in for yourself & refer to this post for a couple of easy ways to set the vibe.

Firstly, a mask is always involved. This should come as no surprise because for the last year I’ve become just so committed to the whole mask & eye mask sheets. Every morning the same eye sheets go under my eyes. It’s like an energy mask for your under eyes. With a night in, you can throw on a real deal mask. My favorite mask of life is this one. It just gets the job done. Plus it smells lovely & the color ( pale mint ) is oddly tranquil. The whole mask thing is just an overall refresher. So ya, first things first: throw a mask on. To be real, it says to leave it on for 20 minutes… I’m intense so I keep it on usually for 2 hours. HA!

Once my collagen mask is on I switch gears to my obsession of life right now: AUDIBLE.

Michael & I are so hooked it’s kind of embarrassing. We’re that couple at the airport with headphones on listening to audiobooks ( or podcasts ). Basically you listen to a book on your phone with or without ear phones. On this particular night in I listened to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland ( read by hottie Scarlett Johansson ) because the movie just came out & I wanted to ‘read’ it before watching it. I’m one of those.

Since Audible rocks, they’re offering all TSC readers a 1-month free trial. You will not be sorry. I couldn’t be more serious. Listening to audiobooks is damn efficient really.

Some books I have on my wish-list on Audible: Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, Invisible Influence by Johan Berger, & Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Any other Audible books you guys recommend? Please share.

So yah, listening to an audiobook is totally part of the experience.

I forgot to mention that, as all of this is going on, I’m for sure ( for SURE ) burning valor in an oil diffuser. Valor is this amazing oil that is just so relaxing. There’s something about the smell that signals my brain to CHILL OUT. The oil is also commonly referred to as a ‘chiropractor in a bottle.’ It’s also known to be balancing & empowering… I’ll take it?

An ice roller is nearby after a mask, just roll it on your face downward for 5 minutes straight & let the lymphatic drainage BEGIN. You will pee a lot more but any puffiness will literally disappear, especially after a nourishing, delicious mask.

Some other things going on while I’m listening to a book with a mint green mask on?

Cards ( Solitaire, so mindless/therapeutic… my grandpa taught me how to play ), a coloring book ( my cousin’s GF, Sarah got this for me to relieve stress! ) & some Beauty Water ( thanks to the Sakura Life babes! ).

Lastly BUBBLY… because a night in wouldn’t be a night in without a little champagne. Preferably in a chilled glass with a couple of raspberries. Treat yourself! Make yourself feel special. You deserve at least one night a month like this.

If you can’t remember a chill night in like this? DO IT. That’s right just do it. Take a load off. You will be a happier person if you take time for yourself. Honestly, I had to learn this the hard way. A chill night like this is good for the soul.

Ok, off to finish up Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & throw on an eye mask.

Talk soon, lauryn x

The Perfect Night In Includes:

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Audible. The opinions and text are all mine.

  1. Agreed! I choose to stay in 98% of the time. I love being comfortable and being able to take off my makeup just to lounge around 🙂

  2. I used to be such a preacher of “You can make time for things that are important” and yet I find myself making excuses these days! You’re so right, I need to put aside the time and have a chill out night!

  3. Sounds like a perfect night! I bought the jade roller after hearing about it from you, I’d love a blog post just on the jade roller!

  4. I am allll about team stay IN. A good mask, detox bath, and some bubbly is THE recipe for a perfect night in. Love some Alice in Wonderland – will def check out Audible… but I gotta admit, I am most intrigued by the colouring book! Thanks for sharing! x Shannon

    1. Coloring books are great for unwinding! What are some of your favorite products for your night in Shannon?

  5. I am also obsessed with Audible and just finished listening to The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer. This is a book my friend recommended, after telling me that it helped change her perspective on how she lives her life. After reading it, I would have to agree. It’s all about learning how to be present and find happiness. Very interesting, and a pretty quick read too. I feel like you and Michael would be into it!

    1. AWESOME! Thank you for the recommendation Caroline I will definitely add that to our list! Sounds like a great read! xx

  6. This is such a great reminder to really PLAN a night in and treat myself. Generally my night in will result from utter exhaustion and consist of binge watching Bravo in bed with some takeout. I love the idea of really pampering myself and making the night special! Thank you for linking to all of the items – definitely need the eye masks!

    1. Schedule it into your calendar if you have to! It’s SO important Jillian. Ah what Bravo show is your go to? xx

    1. The difference is that the jade roller is for lymph drainage!! The ice roller is for mornings, hangovers and inflammation. If I had to choose one I would go with the ice roller! xx

  7. Love this! Staying in – especially by yourself is EVERYTHING. I love living with Justin but it’s really nice to take a little time alone.

Love the jade roller – trying it now! Anything crystal – I’m in!

Also thank YOU for the audible month – I can’t wait to check it out 🙂

  8. Found your blog through Arielle’s instagram page. I feel like I discovered a treasure trove! Such, such, such an awesome collection of useful information and pretty images.

I have a book rec for you… I just finished it on Audible, too. It’s called “When Breath Becomes Air”. Your life won’t be the same after reading it.. it’s a very deeply touching and profound book written by a dying neurosurgeon who has a masters in English. Beautifully written and a story that will inspire and change you!

    1. Welcome to TSC Jessica!!! SO excited you found it : )
AH thank you for the recommendation can’t wait to check it out. xx

  9. Im in love with eye mask pads. Do you have any other brands you suggest ? These seem to be sold out.

  10. It is so sad these eye masks don’t ship to Canada. Do you have any other suggestions? The ones I find are full of toxins and I really need some help with my up-all-night-with-my-baby dark circles

  11. Hi Lauryn <3 for the Jade roller I have read that you are supposed to go against gravity and role from chin to forehead. What technique works best for you? Thanks so much xx
