Bye Bye Bad Breath: Why Everyone Should Have a Tongue Scraper


OMG. I’ve decided it’s my calling to be the person to let the world know that everyone needs a tongue scraper.

The other day I was at a big party & half the guys’ breath smelled like ass. The funny thing is, I’m sure they had all brushed their teeth. Here’s the thing: most of what’s causing  bad breath comes from the tongue. GROSS.

Tongue scraping is just something that needs to happen. Everyone should do it. It’s just as important as brushing your teeth. Simple as that. Think of all the food you eat & all that bacteria just sitting there at the back of your tongue. The tongue is an easy place for all this bacteria to attach & GROW.

So when you’re talking to someone or French kissing, all that bacteria is just sitting there like a nasty rat.

I like to use my tongue scraper in the morning & at night. Very first thing in the morning is ideal because I want to scrape all the bacteria off before I have anything to drink ( like my morning spa water or fiber-filled coffee ). Like, I’m not trying to swallow tongue bacteria over here. I do it again at night for good measure.

This is totally an Ayurveda thing- in fact, we had expert Sahara Rose on the podcast & she breaks down why you NEED TO BE CLEANING YOUR TONGUE the second you wake up. A toothbrush isn’t cutting it – sorry guys.

Stainless steel is the way to go AND your breath will smell 234023984 times better when you clean your tongue. I like this one because it’s adjustable, made of surgical grade stainless steel, & it just works. It takes 5 seconds & you won’t believe what comes off. You’ll be floored.

It’s great to travel with & even Michael has been hanging around the bathroom doing it too. Once you start, you won’t stop.

From an Ayurveda standpoint, the benefits of tongue scraping are:

♡ your food tastes better which results in being satisfied & eating less.

♡ by removing the coating & stimulating the tongue you help to balance the heavy & dulling qualities of Kapha dosha in your physiology.

♡ this simple practice is a direct way of removing Ama from your physiology. In Ayurveda, Ama refers to any accumulation of toxic residue in the mind-body. This can result from improper eating, poor digestion, or a reflection of an imbalance somewhere in the gastrointestinal system.

♡ the oral cavity is one of the main gateways between your mind/body and the environment, maintaining the health of this connection is critical to general well-being.


Your dad needs one, your boyfriend needs one, your friend needs one- shit, everyone needs two.

Anyway, if you’re into hygiene, this is the tool for you. Stuff them in your family’s Christmas stockings & hand them out at parties. It’s cheap, efficient & will make your breath smell minty fresh. It’s kinda weird we’ve lived so long without making sure everyone on the planet has one.
