The talk of the town is turmeric. And we’re here for it.
Turmeric is a super common spice, mainly known for its color & heady taste. This bright yellow-orange spice has long been used in the Eastern world for culinary and medicinal purposes.
Over the years, Western culture has finally realized the many benefits of turmeric. You probably know it best as one of the main ingredients in curry seasoning. But, it’s super delicious on vegetables, beans, lentils, and certain types of meat as well.
And guess what? It’s not just for spicing up your food. It’s also great for your skin – and yes, even your facial skin.
Turmeric has antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties (which are responsible for most of the amazing and magical benefits this spice is capable of). So, you’ll be seeing those words a lot throughout this post.
We’re going to break down how these properties can benefit your facial skin & give you all the best tips on how to effectively use turmeric on your face. Buckle up.
12 Benefits Of Using Turmeric On Your Face
♡ Promotes glowy and vibrant skin.
Because turmeric has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, it works wonders to restore your skin’s natural glow. No more dull and lack-luster skin, we’re going for glowy & radiant.
♡ Reduces signs of aging.
Turmeric contains an active ingredient called curcumin, which is known for its strong antioxidant properties. With this extra little antioxidant boost, you can say bye to wrinkles & fine lines.
♡ Prevents free-radical damage.
Curcumin also helps to prevent cellular damage. This means less dark spots & a more even facial tone.
♡ Regulates skin pH.
Regulating your skin’s pH is an important part of maintaining clear & healthy looking skin. Literally anything can throw it off – dirt, chemicals, old make-up products, and so on. Turmeric’s antimicrobial properties cleanse the skin and help prevent pH imbalances.
♡ Cleanses the skin.
Turmeric has antimicrobial properties that make it a great cleanser – even for your face. What’s really nice about turmeric powder is that it’s literally a powder. So it can really get into those crevices & pores and eliminate all those hard to reach impurities.
♡ Treats acne.
The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric can help you reduce the look of redness, bumps, & acne spots or scars that you have right now. Then, the antimicrobial properties will cleanse your pores and help prevent acne in the future. This goes for eating turmeric and applying it topically.
♡ Treats skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea.
Turmeric is well-known as a home remedy for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. It not only soothes inflamed skin, but promotes faster healing & regeneration of the affected areas.
♡ Heals dry & sensitive skin.
This spice is full of healing properties that not only restore and brighten skin, but also heal the skin and protect it from future damage. Using turmeric on your face can also improve your skin’s hydration by helping to restore your skin’s natural barrier.
If you suffer from intense dry & sensitive skin, we recommend using this product sparingly. While it does have so many benefits, it could irritate very sensitive skin and cause negative side-effects.
♡ Cleans and promotes healing of wounds.
Turmeric’s antiseptic properties make it a safe treatment for small wounds. Like when you get your eyebrows waxed, when you pop a pimple, when you knick your legs shaving, etc. It will both cleanse the wound and help the wound heal.
♡ Clears boils, bruises, and blisters.
Boils, bruises, and blisters – oh my. We hope none of you are dealing with ANY of these on your face. But, if you are, or if you do one day in the future, turmeric can help. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties promote faster healing & quicker regeneration of healthy skin cells.
♡ Reduces the look of scars & dark spots.
The antioxidants in turmeric can reduce hyperpigmentation and promote healthy cell regeneration. Plus, they protect the skin from further damage. As new and healthy cells replace your scar tissues & dead skin, your skin will be noticeably be more even.
♡ Improves your skin’s natural defense system.
We know you hear this all the time, but your skin is your immune system’s first line of defense. And that’s why having a good everyday skincare routine is a must. The point is, the healthier your skin, the better you can fight off gross germs, bacteria, and viruses.
Plus, turmeric is literally loaded with tons of properties (all the ones we mentioned above) that are fantastic for your immune system when eaten as a spice.
Turmeric can improve your immune system both on the inside and outside.
How To Use Turmeric On Your Face
+ Make a turmeric face mask (based on your needs).
The best way to use turmeric on your face is via a face mask. There are lots of DIY turmeric face masks out there that can help you with a variety of skin concerns. So, first, you’ll need to choose what type of turmeric mask you want to make. See some options below.
+ Do a patch test.
Before using any new product, you’ll want to do a patch test. Good places to test facial products are the inside of the arm or the crease of the elbow.
+ Prep your face for your mask.
You want your turmeric face mask to be able to really soak in. So, to prep your face for the mask, start with a gentle cleanse & exfoliate with a baby washcloth (or something similar). This will remove all the dead skin & dirt and prepare your face for pampering.
+ Follow with an Ice Roller or face pack.
Nothing feels better than a nice, cool facial massage after a revitalizing face mask. Once you’ve rinsed off your face mask & applied your facial oil, grab an ice roller like a HOT MESS ICE ROLLER, & relax. Tips on how to use an ice roller can be found here.

Now, on to the different types of masks.
♡ To moisturize & hydrate/treat dry skin conditions:
Grab ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder + ¼ cup of plain yogurt + 1 slice of avocado, and mix. Apply to the face for 15 minutes. Rinse and repeat 1-2 times/week.
The healing properties of turmeric combined with the proteins and omega-3’s found in yogurt and avocados will leave you feeling SO moisturized & glowy.
♡ To cleanse/treat small wounds:
Make a paste using clean water and turmeric powder. Apply to the affected area and let it sit for 3-5 minutes, depending on your wound. If you want, you can cover it with a bandage during this time, but it’s not necessary. If you’re bleeding a little (like a razor cut or pimple), it should stop immediately. FYI, if you’re getting cuts from shaving, be sure to use the HOT SHAVE CREAM to really help your razor glide over the skin.
♡ To treat acne:
Grab ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder + 3-4 drops of your facial oil + 3-4 drops of an acne healing oil. Mix, and apply to the face. It should be a thick paste & will act as a facial scrub during rinsing. Wait 15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water, using the paste to exfoliate.
Acne healing oils include lavender, rosehip, etc. Not only will the paste heal acne, but it will also get rid of all that dead skin. Not to mention, eating turmeric can help prevent acne from the inside out.
♡ To protect & preserve the skin:
Grab 1 ½ teaspoons of turmeric powder + 1 teaspoon of raw honey + 1 tablespoon of coconut milk. Mix, and apply to the face. Leave on for 20 minutes. Then, rinse and apply facial oils and moisturizers.
Protecting and preserving the skin starts with tightening and smoothing. The organic ingredients combine to make the perfect anti-aging mask. When using this mask, remember to focus on facial areas with the most inflammation.
Add turmeric powder to your shopping list ASAP.
Honestly, add this spice to your diet AND to your skincare routine right away. The medicinal properties are just too good. This spice will literally heal your skin from the inside out.
