Guess what?!
I, Lauryn Evarts, am really actually, seriously/seriously trying to go to bed earlier.
STRIDESSSSSSssss.
If I’m being honest I’m a creative kinda night owl.
The kind that stays up super late & works into the night.
As you guys know Michael’s not a fan of late nights on the comp.
SO.
I’m trying to get better about it.
{ gypsy turban vibes }
Really I am.
Last night I went to bed at midnight which is LIKE A BIG-ASS DEAL.
The night before I went to bed at 12:30 AM.
This is much better than my previous 2 AM bedtime, guys.
Much, much better.
And I know optimal sleep hours are around 10 PM so I’m a horrible example for everyone.

Anyway, this weekend we’re going to LA to move more stuff into our home…oh & MOVING FOR THE PAST FOUR MONTHS HAS BEEN SOOO FUN.
::sarcasm::
To say I’m happy the whole moving in together thing is almost over, is an understatement of the year/my life.
Some of you have asked me about my living situation: we’re living half time in Los Angeles & half time in San Diego, which will be crazy but hopefully fun? I’m excited because during the whole process I’ve been filming a bunch of videos on “how to move in with a man ( but really, I’ve learned it’s an art )” AKA mix masculine with feminine.
Let’s hope I can move this weekend’s bedtime to 11:30 am? Doable? I think so!
What’s your bedtime AND WHY? WHY/WHY/WHY? I know that sounds weird but why is that particular time your bedtime? I know, I’m nosey.
Happy Monday! – Lauryn, xx

I am the WORST sleeper. For years I have had trouble falling asleep, but in the past few months I’ve made a real effort to go to bed around the same time (between 9:30-10pm) and after doing that night after night for a while my body got use to it and I would literally just fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I’m a bit of a night owl myself but going to bed the same time every night and getting my 8 hours a night puts me and my mind in a better mood making more productive during the day!
My bedtime always varies to be honest, but I do try and be an early bird. If I’ve got yoga early the next day, I’ll go to bed around 9.30-10 as I need to be up at 6 and I need me my 8 hours beauty sleep. If not then I’ll aim to wake up around 7.30-8 am and go to be around 10.30-11.
I used to be the complete opposite though! I use to always go to bed super late and wake up at lunch time! I’ve since found that waking up early does wonders for my day, and I just love the extra hours of sunlight that I get! It’s beautiful!

I am a night owl too! It is rough for me to go to bed. Some nights I am more tired than others. Excited to see those moving in with a man videos =)

Hi Lauryn! My schedule is probably the exact opposite of yours right now! I go to bed around 9pm and watch a show and read blogs with a mug of tea until about 10, then it’s lights out because I get up at 5 am everyday. Every. Day. Well not Saturday and Sunday, but still. 5 am 5 days a week. I am taking my cpa exams and I get my best studying done at the office in the morning before anyone arrives and bothers me. My schedule is very study/work/study/workout/dinner/bed repeat. But I’m hoping to done by Memorial Day so I can be a real human again (and sleeping till 7 everyday). Always love your posts. Xoxo
I wish I could go back to going to bed at 2 am, it’s hard because I get this sort of second wind around 10 pm and feel inspired or creative or just wide awake, but my fiancé goes to work at 5:30 and I can’t go back to sleep after he leaves because my college classes start at 7:45 and I don’t have time to snooze again. I average about five hours or less every night. Not fun
I go to bed at 10pm and am up around 6:15ish each morning. I NEED my sleep and feel so much better when I’m this rested. I try to listen to my body as best I can and sleep when I need to. On the weekends I sleep in until 7:30 or 8ish but that’s about it. Consistency is key when changing your sleep patterns. I’ve never been a night owl and am always the girl who literally falls asleep on the couch at the party…. but that’s my lifestyle! I want to be up early to hit the gym before work so in order to do that I have no choice but to get my booty to bed!
that centerpiece is gorgeous! i saw those mugs at a shop over the holidays and was soo tempted.
I’m totally the creative type so I get the whole staying up late. When I met my husband he was in bed by no later than 9 and asleep by 9:30. I’ve adapted that schedule (5 yrs) & love it. I’m up in the morning no later than 6am. I am a freak about staying organized so getting up this early allows me to make a super healthy breakfast (poached egg, spinach, heirloom tomato – topped with fresh mozzarella & balsamic glaze). Even when I travel I try my best to go to bed early as it gives me more te to explore plus I feel so energized. Good luck & before you know it you’ll be sleeping before 12 midnight.
SAME. Lucky if I’m in bed by 12:00! Seems like the same reasons as you, it’s hard to mentally shut down and allow yourself to relax and get your mind off work! Even though I started blogging 2 short months ago, I’m started to see that your mind doesn’t really shut off!
The struggle… 🙂

such beautiful images
I can’t wait to watch your videos on how to move in with a man! I’ve been living with my fiance for a while now, and I don’t know how married people move in right after they get married. There was so much head butting when you move in with someone you really care about.. it’s not like a roomate you cant leave a passive aggressive note to hope the dishes get done!
I’m the worst about having a strict bedtime. Normally try to go to bed around 10, but most of the time 10 turns into 12am..
Cynthia
I’m totally the same way – I get most done at night (and when under pressure.. great!) BUT! I have to go to sleep around 10 PM cause my alarm goes off at 6.30 AM and I really try to aim for those precious 8 hours of sleep (and loads more on the weekends!)
Love your blog btw! Have been reading it for the past two years 🙂
xx
i go to bed around 9pm every night because 3 days every week I work as a dialysis nurse and have to be at work at 5am! Yikes!! But it has made me an early bird and I totally love it!
Kind of obsessed with that succulent centerpiece!!! Looking forward to your piece on moving in with a guy. My honey and I moved in together last year but we haven’t really decorated because we’ve been needing to spend that money on other things. While I think we have great overlap with our taste (we both like clean, organic/rustic, minimal rooms for example), I’m really interested to see what your take is. 🙂
I’m a total wreck if I don’t get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. And for some reason I always always always wake up early- like 6am. Therefore I must make sure I get to bed by 10 or 11 at the very latest. There are so many days I wish I was the person that could go to bed at 2 and pop up at 6 or 7 ready for a nice workout!
I normally get up around 7-7:15 for work and I LOVE my sleep (who doesn’t)! I used to love staying up late and doing my own thing back before I got this “big girl” job. I used to work second shift whenever I was scheduled at my old job and my bedtime was whenever I wanted! But now it’s around 11 and 12 at the latest! Sometimes I even fall asleep much earlier.
I like to be in bed by 11 PM so I can either get up around 6 to make it to the gym before work or “sleep in” until 7:15 to be at work by 8:30/8:45.

I used to be the same way. Up till 3 every night, my brain going a mile a minute. I am a lawyer and its hard to get work done during the day because the phone is always ringing. So I had this habit of doing a lot of my work at night/all hours of the early morning. I have made a real effort for the last year or so to get in bed by 10 and read/write/do anything but look at my phone or a computer for 30 or 45 minutes (see this:http://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/blue-light-has-a-dark-side). This change has been life changing. Maybe I get a little less done during the day because I am not putting in a bunch of extra hours, but I feel better throughout that same day. Totally, 100% worth the tradeoff.
Since I gave up drinking for Lent my body has been on a seriously awesome sleep schedule and I’ve been hitting the hay no later than 9:30 which has enabled me to actually get up for my gym sessions before work! Win/Win.
7 hours is ideal for me. I have lately moved from 11.30 and getting up at 6.45 to 10.30 (plus some reading in bed) and getting up at 6, so I can get my breathing exercises and meditation in without stressing about before breakfast. I usually leave the house at 7.30.
My fiancée goes to sleep early for work-around 10, and gets up at 6, so he’s a good influence. I’m trying to go to bed with him and get up with him, which I have to do yet. My plan is to drink my morning tea with him, and then work out starting around 7 🙂
Moving is a lot of work-glad you are almost there! 🙂
During the week I am in bed sleeping by 11pm and get around 8 hours… if I go to sleep anywhere past midnight I will be a ZOMBIE the next day… weekends are a totally different story – later to bed and later to rise! 🙂
My husband has to get up at 5 am everyday for work. When I’m allowed my druthers and a dark room, I’ll stay up to one or two and sleep until 9 am or so. The biggest thing for me is to start getting ready about 30 to 60 minutes before my intended bedtime. No screen time. Just my nightly routine and some reading. Once you get used to it, it helps put you in the sleep zone.
I hear ya girlfriend – over the past few years I’ve been working on scaling back my bedtime. I used to go to bed at 1am always- I’m definitely more of a night owl but I’ve slowly been scaling it back and I’m now in bed usually between 10-10:30 which I think is a big success! It was a major adjustment but I tell ya, I feel waaaay better for it! XO,D

Hi Lauren,
Great post! I hate the process of moving. I’ve literally moved so many times half my stuff is still in boxes.
I started out in college being a night owl, but since I turned around 24, I have become an early sleeper and it seriously changed my life. I’m no longer groggy or tired or cranky during the day. Getting in the routine of going to bed early takes time (I get in bed around 10:30) but it feels sooooo good. And now I’m an early bird. Waking up at 7 am on the weekends is wonderful – I love the peaceful morning time!
Love that cocktail ring! My bedtime is at 10…I’m not much fun!
I get in bed no later than 9:30! Which is CRAZY for some people but it works for me! Then I usually fall asleep by 10 ish. My boyfriend thinks I’m nuts but I need a lot of sleep to function. I’ve always been a good sleeper but now that my boyfriend and I live together I’ve realized getting to bed early helps even more because I can fall asleep better before he goes to sleep.
I feel like this is totally a grass is always greener kinda thing–I go to bed really early because I can NOT function with less than 7 hours of sleep. My boyfriend hatesss how much sleep I need, as he is more of a night owl like you!

Such a beautiful ring!!
I used to be a night owl too. Now I try to go to bed by 10pm because my 2 little kids get up at 6:30am every day >>and that SEVEN DAYS A WEEK because the little cherubs don’t understand weekends 😉
Once and a while, I go to bed later, say 11 or 12, and I pay for it the next day in exhaustion. If you had a beverage or two the night before its even worse! Not enough coffee in the world to get through a tired AND hungover day with toddlers :p
Ultimate dream sleep schedule is 9:30-10:00pm. I call my husband a “grandpa” because if it were up to him we would be in bed by 8:30pm every night! Which I just can’t do, but 10:00pm is great.
I’m so excited to hear ALL about your LA home, I always swoon at your interior designing skills 🙂

I usually aim to go to bed at 2 am, but that often turns into 5am. My job has me working until midnight most nights, and my classes begin at 4pm. I live a very nocturnal lifestyle, complete with my savored midnight runs when the world is mine and I can sing and dance-run : )
LOVE this post. That ring is so cute.

I am a hardcore nightowl. I used to cook professionally so going to bed around 4 am and waking up around noon or 1pm wasn’t
a big deal. Now I’m at work around 10am so going to bed aroun 1 or 2 is my norm.
Lauryn, if you are serious about trying to cure this “disease” of going to sleep late(<LOL), I suggest the concept of savoring mornings. To elaborate- I myself used to cram studying during college until the wee hours of the morning, but then I decided that why would I study with the darkness when I could go to sleep at a normal hour and then wake up earlier and more refreshed? So I started going to bed at around 11 and waking up at 6:00 (rather than 2 am and waking up at 9 barely making it to class). I would wake up 3 hours before class and go to the coffee shop at the edge of campus and watch the sunrise over the ocean while I finished studying– and I felt more refreshed and ready to start the day than ever!! Honestly just try waking up a little earlier and going to a cute little coffee shop in the AM and watch the hustle and bustle of morning-goers get their coffee! Hope this helps(:
I am doing the exact same thing with my bed time! I am nothing short of a night owl but my husband’s surgery schedule (med student) is completely opposite of mine! I posted on ideas for becoming a morning person, check it out! Ohh and good luck!
Cheers!
I go to sleep at 9pm every night some nights earlier. I love quiet, early mornings. I not oy work quite early, but my workout is before work. If I went to bed any later my mornings would be rough. I get A LOT done by 10am everyday
OMG I am the worst too!! Good for you trying to go to bed earlier. I feel ya on the 2am bedtime- I get the most stuff done when my husband is sleeping. I always say that my body is on another timezone!
absolutely obsessed with that mug!! & sleep has definitely become a priority in my life; i’m so sick of waking up w/ a puffy face + just feelin’ like crap.

I am usually the same way – a night owl but, recently I have been trying this new thing where I will stop using any sort of electronic device like an iPad or iPhone a half hour before I go to bed. I will even shut off my tv well before I go to sleep, open up a book and slowly but surely will fall asleep. I try really hard to fall asleep before 12:00 but it doesn’t usually happen.
Also – what’s your opinion on taking Melatonin before bed?
I’m like you I get the most work done past midnight haha not good I know. Lately I’ve been aiming for 11:00 cus I know more sleep = better skin & more energy through out the day (even though a good 30 min power nap does the trick too) Good luck with the move and I’m looking forward to the videos 🙂
I am in the same boat as you. I am always up late with my laptop in bed online shopping and reading your blog. My boyfriend hates it. I am trying to start getting my body trained to wake up earlier, so I guess I need to start going to bed earlier. I love my night time routine so IDK how this is going to happen 🙂 What time do you usually wake up?
I used to be in bed late late but since my son Reece (3) is up early enough I tend to try and go in around 11 or 12:) plus at the moment here in Ireland I am freezing my ass off so the best place to be is under the duvet:) xx
This won’t be easy for you because with your profession you must be on your computer and phone, but I turn off all screens by 830 (TV, phone, and computer). I read for about 30 mins with my “bedtime” cocktail. A mix of Yogi’s bedtime tea, calming tea, and magnesium powder. That usually helps me fall asleep. Go to bed around the same time every night. I MUST get a full night’s sleep or I am a WRECK the next day. I am a teacher, so sleep in important. I have to have energy for those kiddos!
My alarm goes off at 7:30am everyday (even on the weekends). That way even if I don’t get out of bed, I’m at least working on getting up and keeping myself on a regular rythmn. I back my bedtime up to 11:30pm so that even if I don’t fall asleep right away, I’m resting for a full 8 hours. That being said, as long as I start getting ready before midnight, then I feel like I’m “on schedule”!
I usually go to sleep at 11 pm. I would go to sleep later, but my husband makes me go to sleep when he does! lol.
I’m also definitely the night owl type. I’d love to be able to go to sleep early , or even fall asleep quickly. No such luck, not a good sleeper!
Let us know how it goes and any tips you have while trying to become an early sleeper and early riser!
I’m going to be in the minority, but 6:00 or 7:00 PM. I’m a teacher and I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I am naturally someone who can stay up late. It’s a tough mix sometimes, needing rest and wanting to stay up and be normal. I just have to put my health first.
Ugh story of my life…. I can’t manage to go to sleep before 2am and it sucks mostly because the next day i always have to wake up early and it never goes as its suppost too… So yeah. Right now it is 2am and i’m still up. I am going to shoot for waking up early tomorrow and go for a nice run in the a.m and hopefully tomorrow night i will go to bed earlier. Fingers crossed. Try out my method Laur:)
this is amazing. kee going…
