My #1 beauty tip: use a straw when you’re guzzling coffee.

Ya.

Seriously, serious.

Drinking coffee out of a straw is worth preserving the whiteness of your teeth.

Oh? I know what you’re thinking: I’m so stupid to pay attention to such little detail? Trust me; you’ll thank me later.

There’s nothing, & I mean nothing, worse than coffee stained teeth ( ESP w/ coffee breath ). Personally? I’ll pass on straw-less coffee. Like, thanks but no thanks.

Use this tip every.single.day. I like to compare this one to SPF. Just do it & prepare to reap the benefits later in life ( SPF= no wrinkles, no skin cancer & coffee w/ a straw= white teeth ).

Make sure your coffee is iced though, because no one likes chemical-ie plastic bits floating in scolding hot java. Also, while we’re on the topic: if you’re a coffee drinker, ditch the bloating Splenda. Use cinnamon & nutmeg to sweeten it up. I like to add a splash of soy milk too.

Don’t forget to use this little tip in iced tea & fruit juices too.

I meannnnnn, you may or may not see me drinking Pinot Noir through a straw.

xx.

  1. Hi! I have this argument with people all the time. I say drink coffee & tea (and any other dark/stain-potential) beverages through a straw. I have friends who say the straws give you wrinkles around the mouth. I win 🙂

    1. We’ve solved the problem for any HOT *or* ACIDIC drink that will stain your teeth (cold and hot, acidic affects enamel). Try out Koffie Straws! They’re 100% silicone dishwasher & heat & acidic safe. AND they’re made for to-go-cups (fit in the lids). Angled and soft design too

  2. I prefer to drink my coffee out of a straw too. @Erica – I have friends/coworkers who are on the “but, straws give you wrinkles” team too – I guess either way we’re doomed. 😉 @Liz – I actually drink my hot beverages using a straw (from Starbucks, Coffee Bean, etc.) and it’s never been a problem – maybe I’ve just been lucky! 🙂

    1. You will love our Koffie Straw product. It’s 100% silicone (so it’s great for hot and cold drinks, —cold coffee is still acidic so either way a straw is really your best enamel protection). It’s dishwasher safe and comes with a cleaning brush. It fits in To-Go-Cups and is stylish too!

  3. You guys!
    Listen to this lady!
I drink huge amounts of tea, coffee and red wine and even used to smoke. I cannot tell you how awful my teethe are as a result (not awful, awful – but stained.)

Save yourself the cost of cosmetic teeth whitening and switch!

  4. Well, I say do what you want! I like hot coffee since I live in the artic (“spring” is currently 19 degrees)

so drink it without the straw and make sure to whiten your teeth! and you won’t get lip wrinkles from daily straw drinking

if its warm then drink it with a straw and apply some wrinkle cream

    🙂 🙂 have a great day!

  5. I have reusable plastic straws that I reserve for smoothies and iced beverages, but for hot coffee I use glass straws! I can’t give up my hot coffee or tea in the morning, so the glass straws are a lifesaver! No stains + no chemicals leeching into your coffee goodness. I ordered mine off of Amazon, I think, but make sure to get order a product that comes with a straw cleaner!

    1. Where is the world would I buy glass straws?? I drink two cups of coffee every day, one at 5am before I work out and another around 8:30-9am. I would LOVE to start using straws but I love a warm mug in my hands in the morning- I can’t do iced coffee every often 🙂

  6. Does splenda really bloat? Cuz i have been adding a tiny bit into my coffee each morning and i swear i am more bloated than ever….and i dont know what else would be causing this so i am curious!

    1. Put the straw near the back of your throat then the sucking motion of the straw is gone for the most part so no worries about looking weird years later..and less chance of coffee (or other drinks) swirling through your teeth. My coffee is not scorching hot so the warm coffee going through the plastic straw doesn’t concern me.

  7. I have drank coffee and everything else through a straw, since I was younger and I modeled! And I am here to tell you, that I have no wrinkles around my mouth, my teeth are white, & I am 55 years old! I swear by straws, & I always will! 🙂

  8. I drink a cup of coffee the normal way, sipping from a cup. And I look amazing for 60! It’s all in the genes my dears! Plus if you don’t want to burn and fast all day and night….drink from the cup!!

  9. I’m sure you are all very beautiful, but to drink hot coffee through a plastic straw is literally poisoning yourself. I mean how do not see that plastic melts. Melting plastic releases chemicals into your beverage. I have worked at Starbucks for 9 years and it still amazes me when people are that daft. Just brush when you finish a coffee. Lazy!!

  10. I plan to make this change. Also there is a straw called “hot straw” made for hot drinks, so you can have it both ways! I’m an avid coffee drinker, and don’t want the neg effects associated with it.

  11. From the first time I saw the title, I was like What? Does drinking coffee using a straw really change anything. But after you have explained the whole thing, I feel that it makes a lot of sense and I think it is something that I will have to adopt. But what about the hot one? Thanks a lot for sharing.

  12. So glad I came across this post! I’m in the process of whitening my teeth and was told I couldn’t drink coffee/wine, etc. So your post confirmed this to be my little cheat sheet!!

  13. Love the post! I could not agree more! Straws play a huge role in keeping your teeth clean and white! Unfortunately single-use plastic is horrible for the environment, which is why you should invest in a reusable straw. If you get a chance check out CurrenStraw. The straws are stainless steel with a silicone tip giving you comfort and durability! You will love them and your white teeth! Oh and did I mention they come in the cutest bamboo case?

  14. My mother has been talking about whitening her teeth for a while and I am considering giving a professional treatment to her as a Christmas gift. I really appreciate your advice on how to prevent stains like drinking through a straw. I will tell her to use a straw after the professional whitening to keep those teeth nice and white! I think I will have to look for a trustworthy office for her!
