TSC Book Club: My 5 Favorite Books for Business

by
LAURYN

brand gap girl code overnight success work party steven pressfield by tscIt’s TSC book club time. You know I love a book club. I’m a huge bookworm and I know a lot of you guys are too. I try to read for 30 minutes a day at least.

Reading is something that really got me through my mom’s death. It’s something I could focus on that was outside of myself. The Nanz gave me this tip. When you’re upset or not in a good place, focus on something outside of yourself. It really helps. That’s reading for me.

Reading keeps you interested and interesting.

I’ve done some posts on books before so if you haven’t checked them out stalk them here: 1, 2, 3, 4.

But today we’re going to talk specifically about business books. I know a lot of you own your own business or are in a 9-5 hustle, so here are 5 books that have really helped me when it comes to running a business.

Let’s dive right in:

WorkParty: How to Create & Cultivate the Career of Your Dreams by Jaclyn Johnson

This book is really great for millennials. Jaclyn is a total badass who we’ve had on the podcast, and …

STOP WAITING IN LINE AT THE BOOKSTORE TO GO POO! TRUST ME, I HAVE A HACK

I was going through old posts today & I totally found a bunch of TSC vintage-ish posts where we WENT THERE— you know posts where we discussed camel toes, UTI’s, coconut oil lube, & boob jobs. And then I realized we have never talked about what to do when you gotta go.

No, not like G2G but gotta go…to the bathroom.

But first, let me give you a little story!

OK. SO WE NEED TO SET THE SCENE. It was, I think (???), 2005? I don’t know but some time in high school. And during lunch, always lunch, all the girls would go to this place called Jimbo’s. Jimbo’s is this healthy food market but within the store they have like a deli with turmeric egg salad & ginger cucumber wrapped sandwiches & sh*t. They also happen to have this smoothie that all the girls loved called ‘The Fat Burner.’ It was this smoothie with protein powder & mango & weird other mixtures that supposedly makes you burn fat- at least that’s what we thought at the time you know? I feel like they still have this smoothie if you want one? Maybe for old-time’s …

TSC BOOK CLUB: BOOKS YOU NEED TO BE READING

books you should read now | by the skinny confidential

Michael & I are in  Greece! Which means LOTS of books. There’s nothing better than kicking back with a book. You know I LOVE long flights because it’s a time to disconnect, sip some champagne, & read a book without any distractions. Not going to lie, I kind of like when the wifi is spotty- gives me an excuse to read.

Whether you’re going somewhere exotic or simply reading while you walk on the treadmill these are the books you need to be reading now:

Everything About Me is Fake and I’m Perfect

Janice Dickinson is something else. After listening to her on a podcast recently I immediately had to know more. She is raw and unapologetically herself. I mean just look at her book title, Everything About Me is Fake & I’m Perfect. Get ready for a juicy read about modern culture from the woman who claims to have coined the term ‘super model.’ I loved her other 2 books too. Funny enough, I read them while recovering from a boob job years ago ( LOL ). Anyway she’s funny as hell.

Since I’ve had some major downtime this month, I’ve been able to sort of kick back and do one of my favorite things ever: READ.

Every time I’ve had anything bad happen in my life I turn to books.

I find that they suck me into a different world where I can turn my brain off. Take a moment. And reflect subconsciously.

I guess reading has always been extremely therapeutic for me.

( I always joke with Michael that I knew I wanted to marry him when I found out he was a big reader. No matter how busy he is with work/life, he ALWAYS makes time to read everyday. To me, thats a very attractive trait in a man or woman ).

As my business has grown, I noticed I wasn’t making time to read…SCREW THAT.

& what a BULL SHIT EXCUSE, there’s always time if you make time, right?

SO I’ve changed my thought process. I’ve made time to kick back & just read. It doesn’t have to be some gnarly, intense book, it could be something light & girly, but I …

3 REASONS YOU NEED A SOCIAL MEDIA BLACKOUT

social media blackout

Earlier this year I realized that I was experiencing kind of a burnout. & this isn’t a complaining blog post- I’m just acknowledging that I felt burnt out. It’s ok. It’s part of the job. It’s part of life. In all areas of life whether it be your job, relationship, being a mother, WHATEVER, it’s normal to experience burnout.

Creating content 7 days a week for 9.5 years gave me burnout.

I’ll never forget when I was a bartender, there was always this guy who used to sit at the bar. He was a really major, successful real estate agent, & he would always tell me that I was crazy for working 7 days a week. He would always say how you need at least 1 day off to recharge & rejuvenate. Here I was, in my early 20s, laughing at him in my head- thinking that I was this badass who could take …
