BREAKING IT DOWN: GIRL’S NIGHT OUT PREP

DSW X THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL 3DSW X THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL 5

Two weeks ago I went out with my girlfriends to celebrate one of their birthdays.

Naturally, we did what we always do: OYSTERS & CHAMPAGNE.

We have this real strong obsession with oysters but that’s a different story for a different day.

Anyway, as I was getting ready I had a blog post idea ( they come to me randomly: in the shower, middle of the night, & always in Pilates ). Post idea being: girl’s night out prep.

We’ve talked about date night out prep, but never really prep for a girl’s night.

Is it just me or does it feel different getting ready to go out with GF’s than with a date?

Regardless, my prep is different.

Whenever I go out with my friends I care more about what I wear ( sorry babe ). All my friends are stylish so I don’t want to just throw on a leather jacket. Something more spicy always fits better for a night out with the girls.

The fact is: girls pay attention to jewelry, nail polish, & SHOES.

So these are the things I focus on for a night out on the town with my friends.

I always have a fresh manicure. It sounds simple but there’s nothing worse than having chipped nails. FOR ME. Some girls look cute ( seriously ) with chipped nails. Unfortunately I’m not one of them.

Typically for a night out with friends, I’ll go get a paint job ( this is my anti-manicure because it’s inexpensive & QUICK ).

Then if I’m wearing open-toed shoes ( which I was ), I’ll get a paint job on my toes too.

The shoes I picked were different than my pointy pump.

These black DSW pair from their Mix No. 6 Collection remind of the red dress dancing girl Emoji. They’re spicy, hot, & look real great with a tight skinny jean.

I paired these tie-up shoes with black fitted pants & a vintage band tee shirt. Simple, effortless with an emphasis on the shoes. BECAUSE girls LOVE shoes.

( This weekend we’re going to a charity event & I’m going to wear these tie-up babies with a long red dress, should be cute! ).

Anyway, I always love a pop of color on my lips too when I go out with my friends. Going out on a Friday night feels sassy & a bright lipstick fits the theme, you know?

Since the birthday girl is a jewelry designer, I paid close attention to my jewels! I found some pearl earrings on Etsy & I just can’t get enough of them. They were also $12 dollars which is a real win in my book.

Then I added a dainty, feminine hand piece & a thin, long, barely-there necklace.

Each detail seems small but when you’re going out with girls it’s fun to pay attention to the little things.

I mean when I go out with Michael I literally could wear a black wig & a wet suit & he would be like “you look cute babe.” Men don’t notice detail, & if your’s does?

Lucky you.

We ended up getting our oysters at Brooklyn Girl in San Diego & then headed to Lion’s Share for a nightcap ( a Tito’s martini with lemon & lime for me! ). Fun right!

Here are a couple fun looks to wear out with your friends ( add oysters separately ):

bandana | tie-up shoe ( full collection ) | cross body bag | red bootie | aztec hat | pink pump

The night was amazing & of course, my friends all noticed the details.

Because that’s what girlfriends are for right?…Oyster, details…& champagne?

What’s your ideal girl’s night?

  1. Cute post! Can you share the Etsy shop where you got the pearls? I’m looking for some for my wedding and those look perfect!

  2. My man definitely notices details and I love it! But you are right, girls night out prep is different! Also, I’m in LOVE with your hanger oh my goodness thats just beautiful detail right there!

    Thanks for sharing
    <3

  3. Ok I’m so glad I’m not the only one who puts WAY more effort into girls nights than date nights! I LOVE those lace up shoes..so cute <3

  4. Cracked up at you saying Michael would say you look cute if you showed up in a black wig and wetsuit! I always get so frustrated at my boyfriend for never actually noticing the work that I put into my style. Glad to know I’m not alone in this! lol

  5. Ha – too real! I’ll admit, sometimes I LOVE the effortless nights with my guy but there is something so fun and girly about getting ready for a ladies night! I have been loving the bandana neck ties lately – love wearing them with bolos! I love the sexy lace up show witha casual vintage T – such a cute outfit idea! x Shannon

  6. So funny! I always try a little harder with my girlfriends for the same reasons. Plus, since you (probably) won’t be kissing any of them, it’s the perfect time to rock a red lip. Thanks for the tips!

  7. I TOTALLY pay more attention when I go out for girls night. It’s an opportunity to wear more fun stuff (like outrageous shoes that my husband would not appreciate!).

  8. Seriously such a fun post and totally agree that dressing up for the ladies is much different than the men. Manicure is always a must, and bright lips to seal the deal! BTW, a lot of my ideas come to me during Pilates too-ha!
