So this weekend I totally realized I’m that person.

You know that person AKA that annoying food snob.

The kinda snob that dies a little inside when around nasty-ass, chemical food/drinks/products.

Like, I’m a pain the ass.

The other day I went to see a friend’s new home & this spilled outta my big-ass mouth as I was leaving:

“Such a cute place! So happy for you! Die over that couch! By the way, those water bottles, ya those ones over there, have BPA in them. Buy new ones. K, love you, ciao!”

This is real life.

That happened.

I’m turning into the person that stands over my friends when they’re cooking…

The one who yells at friend’s for not plugging their nose when they’re pumping gas…

The person that nonchalantly ( but sneakily ) throws away anything her boyfriend’s fridge that’s nasty ( AKA Taco Bell!!! ).

I know. It’s bad. I’m really to be better.

Here’s the deal: the more educated on food I become, the crazier I get.

I can’t help.

To all you healthy love bugs out there: how the heck do you control that healthy, little devil inside who can’t shut the F up? ESP around people you care about?

Help please!! SMS!

Get to Know the Superfood, Kimchi— Trusttttt Me.

Lauryn Evarts, fitness blogger, health blogger, and diet blogger talks skinny tips and tricks for weight loss.

Kimchi is a weird-ass food with a weird-ass name.

But I’m totes in love.

Like, obsessed.

Superfood alert!!!

Did you know kimchi is known as the world’s healthiest foods?

NBD, right?

If asked for a taste description of kim-chi, I’d say it’s similar to spicy sauerkraut.

& I F-ing LOVE sauerkraut. I’m a real, true blue sauerkraut fan.

If you don’t like kimchi, disguise it in other foods like soups or salads.

According to this article, “Koreans eat so much of this super-spicy condiment (forty pounds of it per person each year) that natives say “kimchi” instead of “cheese” when getting their pictures taken. The reddish fermented cabbage (and sometimes radish) dish—made with a mix of garlic, salt, vinegar, chile peppers, and other spices—is served at every meal, either alone or mixed with rice or noodles. And its part of a high-fiber, low-fat diet that has kept obesity at bay in Korea. Kimchi also is used in everything from soups to pancakes, and as a topping on pizza and burgers.”

I’m a fan in my daily salad, on top of a sweet potato, &/or in my scrambled eggs.

But lately I’ve been it eating it plain jane.

Yup. Just by itself. I’m that addicted.

Lauryn Evarts, fitness blogger, health blogger, and diet blogger talks skinny tips and tricks for weight loss.

Kimchi is also packed with vits. Think Vitamin A/B/C. BUT the real benefit: it’s loaded with ‘healthy bacteria’ ( also called lactobacilli ). This bacteria is typically found in fermented food ( like Greek yogurt & fermented cabbage ). This online source states that “due to the fermentation process kimchi is an excellent source of probiotics, these are the good bacteria that help your body fight off various infections. Kimchi is also packed with vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, some B vitamins, iron, calcium, & selenium ( << remember this TSC post on the importance of selenium? ).  These all contribute to supporting muscle growth, improve your immune system, and improve blood flow.”

Healthy bacteria ( a total oxymoron! ) helps with digestion & literally stops yeast infections in their tracks. Forget Monistat egg-shapped grossness. Kimchi kills yeast naturally.

Like, buh-bye yeast infections- love always, lactobacilli.

If you can’t get kimchi where you live, make sure you take a daily probiotic ( << I’ll post more on this later ) or simply DIY.

Sup Antioxidants

Breaking news: antioxidants are everything. Like really, everything.

FYI: if you haven’t done your antioxidant research then pull your head of your ass & get with it!

I definitely was shocked when I researched these babies.

It all started when I ran into a lady who had absolutely amazing skin. Like you know that glowing, dewey insane skin? Ya. On her face, neck, arms, etc.

I asked her how the F her skin was so amaze.

She said two things: SPF ( duh! Wear it every second of every day ) & antioxidants.

When I went to the health store to grab my A.O.’s, the women commented on how smart ( blush ) I was to being taking antioxidants that were anti-aging. This further clarified why incredible skin lady looked so young.

Preventative measures, peeps!

Because duh, who doesn’t want to preserve their youth?!

I’m not too big on taking a bunch of vitamins ( << more here ). I really try to eat them.

And I also try to eat loads of antioxidants ( blueberries, dark chocolate, red wine ; ] ). But after talking to this lady for thirty minutes, I found that while they’re several antioxidant enzymes that the human bod produces naturally, there’s many antioxidants that your body misses out on ( sometimes the food isn’t enough either ).

Oh, and as far as WTH antioxidants do: “the main function of antioxidants is to remove the free oxygen radicals that form as byproducts of the biochemical reactions occurring in the body. If not removed, these free oxygen radicals can cause cancerous growths in the body. If left alone, the free radicals can cause severe damage to cell walls, causing irreparable damage to the organs. They also have the capability of altering the genetic material within the cells and other cell structures. Such sustained damage can lead to serious diseases. The antioxidants can destroy free radicals before they have a chance of causing harm to the body and are useful in the prevention of cancers, strokes, and heart diseases. It has been found that natural antioxidants work to do the job of neutralizing free radicals quite effectively. All in all, most experts agree that the best way to give the body protection from free radicals is to consume a variety of antioxidants.”

Free radicals are the devil. And antioxidants are their arch enemy. Read this for more info.

Anyway so here’s my list of what I’ve been taking daily:

<< Alpha-Lipoic Acid: alpha-lipoic acid is in spinach, broccoli, & potatoes. This also helps with memory loss big time…and well, I do lose my keys, phone, mind every second.

<< N-Acetylcysteine:this helps body to defend off sickness. It’s also “derived from the simple amino acid cysteine, provides significant protection against a broad array of modern toxins. These include acrolein (found in cigarette smoke and auto exhaust), paraquat (a toxic herbicide), and the side effects of cyclophosphamide, adriamycin (both anticancer drugs) and halothane (an anesthetic).” So forget the flu shot, I’m just taking this! Click here to read more.

<< Resveratrol: oh hey, red wine. This antioxidant is in peanuts, berries, & wine. That sounds like a delicious combo to me ; ). Anyway I take this because “resveratrol affects the activity of enzymes called sirtuins. Sirtuins control several biological pathways & are known to be involved in the aging process.” Find out more here.

<< Selenium: this little sex kitten antioxidant is found in meats and seafood. “Major benefits of selenium have been found to improve the immune system against bacterial and viral infections, against cancer cells & shingles. One of the major nutritional benefits of selenium is increasing the HDL cholesterol to LDL cholesterol for a healthy heart. For skin care, selenium’s antioxidant properties regenerate vitamins E and C, thereby decreasing the aging of skin.” For more info, click here.

<< Turmeric: since my neck’s been so inflamed, this has become my new bestie. Research shows that turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and antioxidant properties. I also add turmeric in my homemade juices but typically it’s not enough. I also love cooking with turmeric. I take two of these a day because they’re just so bad ass.

Note: choose antioxidants that are right for you. Talk to a herb doctor or go to local health food store. Do your research. These are my picks because they work for me.

So in the sexy spirit of V-Day, I’m discussing all the deets on dark chocolate. Check it:

Why you should keep a lil dark chocolate in your bedside drawer:

+ It’s a potent antioxidant ( << these protect from cancer & they’re anti-aging— hey, hey ).

+ DC is good for your heart. Studies have shown that it can lower blood pressure & improve blood flow.

+ Love me some of endorphins! Dark chocolate releases tons of these babies making you feel happier & more positive.

+ It freaking LOWERS your risk of cavities. Candy that lowers my risk of sick-o cavities? Count me in.

+ Vitamins! Think Potassium, Copper, Magnesium, & Iron.

+ It cures a broken heart. Really, it does. Eat some dark chocolate & drink some champagne- trust me, you’ll feel much better. On to the next! LOL.

Oh, & fun fact: when choosing dark chocolate make sure it contains at least 70 percent cacao!! Buy some with nuts & you’re good to go.

Oh, So You Stuffed Your Face on Thanksgiving? No Probs…Here’s Some Recovery Tips!

Lauryn Evarts is a fitness blogger, health blogger, fashion blogger, and diet blogger from Southern California.

Instead of feeling bad/guilty/pissed/annoyed in regards to the oh-so-f’ning-annoying holiday bloat, try nipping that shit in the bud. What’s done is done. A lot of you have e-mailed me concerned about the holidays. Look, it’s normal to overeat on Thanksgiving. Now it’s time to leave the pity party & take action. Leave the past in the past.

Ya get me ; )?

Here’s some tips/tricks to avoid those holiday LB’s:

1.} Water. Ya, ya, ya. You hear this all the time. There’s a reason it’s number one on the list. Drink it until you feel like you’re about to give birth.

2.} Light alcohol. Since you’ll most likely be drinking more than usu around the holidays, try to avoid it if there’s no celebrations going on. When you do end up drinking, stick to vodka/water, champs, & Pinot grigio [ duhhhh ].

3.} Motivate yourself. If you’re laying around like a slob & complaining, peel yourself from the coach & squeeze in an hour workout. Be productive/disciplined.

4.} Eat clean. Examples? Organic cold cuts, cottage cheese, low-carb bread, berries, any type of vegetable, hummus, black beans, quinoa, fresh soups, arugula salads, kale juice, sexy wheatgrass shots, chickpeas, avocado-anything, turkey roll-ups, sliced cucumber with light cheese, scrambled eggs, tuna fish, blah, blah. Pretty simple, since there’s tons of options!

5.} Green tea. People do not understand how freaking beneficial green tea is. I shoot for two cups a day. It speeds the metabolism, cleanses the system, & contains tons of lovely antioxidants. Bottoms up, sex kittens.

6.} Vitamins. Ok. So lately I have been trying to get my vitamins from food. Calcium, D3, B12, etc. can all be found in the food you’re eating. Why take a pill when you eat something delicious? Speaking of vitamins… try a B12 shot. I love these; find out why here. I recommend one a month.

7.} Tan. Because it just makes everything look better. Some people look best with light skin, if you’re one of those peeps- lucky you. Most people look better with a lil’ bit of spray. You can find tanning tips here.

8.} Kick up your workouts. Whatever you’re used to doing throughout the year, kick it up a notch. You’ll feel better & you’ll look better. No excuses!

9.} Stop projecting negativity. To look fab, you have to feel fab. Beating yourself up isn’t the answer. Changing the solution to your problem is.

10.} MyFitnessPal app. Now for the best tip evs…Get the app called MyFitnessPal; if you’re freaking about not going cray, cray this holiday season this is a real problem solver. It seriously, really, without a doubt keeps yo ass in check.

So. Stop feeling bad for yourself & change your tune.
