My New Year’s resolution?

I meannnnn, instead of dreaming up a bunch of shit I hope for, I’d rather just be productive.

So I guess my resolution is to flourish.

Flourish in love, business, fitness, family, friends, health, Pixy, & life in general.

I was not feelin’ so hot yesterday so I skipped yesterday’s post & gave myself some TLC : / !

Anyway since I can only respond to so many e-mails [ before I go nutso ] I figured I would answer some frequently asked quesies.

+ What’s your health & fitness background?

Here’s my story. Ta da.

+ Tell me about a day of eating.

It changes on the reg. I love shocking my system- ya know, changing it up. Breakfast is usually a piece of sprouted raisin toast with berries [ I put the berries on the bread + a bit of butter ] & some tea. Snack is a banana. Then I have a cup of coffee with a splash of soy milk, cinnamon, & nutmeg. “Lunch” [ I say "lunch" because I don't really eat three actual meals, I snack ] is cottage cheese with more berries & a salad or scrambled eggs with avocado, onions, & tomato slices. I usually have another snack like a protein shake or a fresh squeezed vegetable juice. I nibble on nuts, pineapple, a hard boiled egg, some light cheese, ’0 calorie’ pasta + Rao’s sauce, &/or hummus w/ baby carrots. Dinner is a protein patty or Boca burger sans bun, maybe some wine, & a salad with protein. I usually stay away from meat though. Lots of water, water, & more water. But I also pick throughout the day. I’m a real picker ; ). Sometimes I pick at a some french fries/pasta/pizza, steal a few bites of dessert, or even eat a cranberry oatmeal cookie…GASP! Teeny, tiny portions work well for me throughout the day. I also modify everything.

+ What can I reach for when I’m having a sweet craving?

I’m obsessed with stuffing organic raspberries with dark chocolate chips ; ).

+ What makeup do you use?

I promise {!!!} a post on this is comin’ soonnnnnn.

+ How do I get rid of belly fat?

PILATES! It’s changed my life. Also fuel your bod with the healthiest foods possible & drink TONS of water [ I swear it works! ].

+ Do you count calories?

If I’ve had a particularly bad week, I use MyFitnessPal. But usually, no. For more info, click here.

+ Do you have extensions?

No. I don’t know where they would go- my hair is normally one big dreadlock!! LMAO.

+ Where do you shop?

Nasty Gal, Brandy Melville, the flea market, Forever 21, LF, vintage stores, eBay, Singer22, Revolve Clothing, & my boyfriend’s closet [ ha! ].

No one wants to read a blog by someone who’s not being authentic. Blog about what you’re passionate about too! I mean, I could talk about health & fitness for days; find what you love. Blogging is A LOT of work, but it’s well worth it. I’ve met amaze people through TSC.

No-Bloat, Fresh DIY Cocktails

In celebration of Michael’s birthday, I’m going to talk cocktails. Recently, he has taken up a fun, new hobby: bartending. We’ve been experimenting with the freshest ingredients & all different kinds of spirits. I thought I despised gin. Turns out, I don’t hate the juniper tasting liquor at all when it’s used properly. Below are the recipes for four DIY cocktails with fresh, skinny ingredients. Happy birthday, hunny!

Skinny Cocktail List:

+ French 75: 

1.5 ounce gin [ my preference Hendrick's gin ]
1/2 ounce of simple syrup [ we make our own- see below for recipe ]
1/2 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
3 splashes of French champagne 

+ Instructions: over ice, in a tall glass, add simple syrup, gin, & lemon juice. Stir gently together. Top with champagne. Garnish with lemon peel.

+ Gin-Gin Mule:

2 ounces gin
3/4 ounces fresh squeezed lime juice
1/2 ounce ginger syrup [ DIY recipe below ]
Ginger beer [ to taste ]
8 fresh mint leaves

+ Instructions: add mint leaves, ginger syrup, & lime juice to a mixing glass. Muddle until mint aroma is released. Add gin & ice. Shake until cold. Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Add ginger beer & garnish with fresh mint.

+ Clover Club:

1.5 ounce gin
1 ounce simple syrup
3/4 fresh squeezed lemon juice
6 raspberries
1 egg white [ yes, an egg white ]

+ Instructions: add simple syrup & raspberries to a shaker & muddle gently. Add lemon juice, gin, and egg white to a shaker. Dry shake with no ice to mix egg in. Add ice, shake until cold, double strain into cocktail glass with ice. Garnish with lemon peel.

+ Grapefruit Tom Collins:

2 ounces gin
1/2 ounce of fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 ounce fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
1 ounce simple syrup
3 ounces of Perrier sparkling water

+ Instructions: add gin, lemon juice, grapefruit juice, & simple syrup to mixing glass. Add ice, shake, and strain over ice-filled Collins glass. Add Perrier sparkling water and stir gently. Garish with a grapefruit wheel, halved.

P.S. Use real fruit to make your fresh juices! And here are the fresh syrup recipes:

++ Simple Syrup:

1 cup organic sugar
1 cup of water

+ Instructions: add water & sugar to a saucepan and boil over low heat. Stir until all the sugar dissolves & it’s clear. Bottle the syrup [ a funnel does wonders here ] & put it in the refrigerator.

++ Ginger Syrup:

2 ounces fresh ginger, thinly sliced
1 cup organic sugar
1 1/2 cup water

+ Instructions: combine ginger, sugar, & water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved. Continue simmering for thirty to forty minutes or until syrup smells gingery. Remove from heat and cool completely. Strain the syrup through a fine sieve, transfer to a bottle, & refrigerate. [ Recipe adapted from Cocktailia ].

Egg White French Toast

Some friends have asked me if I ever run out of blog post topics…the answer is a solid no. There’s always constant inspiration, a boatload of new recipes, & countless easy, new diet modifications available. If you’re bored because you’re consuming the same healthy foods day after day, mix it up. This Rice Milk & egg white French toast recipe took a full fifteen minutes to whip up last Saturday AM. It’s possible to make every meal delicious, pretty, and healthy. Also I know I advocate lemon on everything, but trust me, lemon on French toast is heavenly.
