Skinny Chai Latte…The Best #TB Ever Right

MMMMMmmmm who doesn’t love chia tea?

I was obsessed circa 2001— you could always find me with my Starbucks hot chai tea rocking a white Abercrombie peasant skirt, Roxy sunglasses, & French manicure gels. For some reason there was something so cool about showing up to high school with this entire get-up…chai tea latte included.

And then I found out the Starbucks version had like six million grams of sugar ( according to my friend “more than like, 20 mini Snicker’s bars, Lauryn. EW!” ). So I banned chai tea & stuck to boring, plain coffee.

Because I found a way, guys, to whip up an easy, low sugar, skinny chai tea using a new favorite from Celestial Seasonings.

This recipe will take you like one second to make, you’ll get an awesome coffee buzz, & it’s full of super foods! YES.

Basically all you do is this, mix:

1 cup of ‘The Godfather’ Celestial Seasonings Chai Tea concentrate
1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut milk
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3 sprinkles of cinnamon
2 sprinkles of cardamom
2 dashes of turmeric
Garnish with: a few sprinkles of raw cacao nibs

Directions: I like to shake the above in a martini shaker, pour over ice, & garnish with extra cinnamon and raw cacao.

Cheers to a damn good buzz!

The breakdown goes a little something like this:

I used the Celestial latte concentrate ‘The Godfather’ flavor ( which allows you to add the milk or non-dairy alternative of your choice ). It’s an authentic masala chai with a bold espresso & rich cocoa flavor. It gives the mixture a coffee, chai tea, espresso taste. AND provides the buzz. You can find this at Target ( favorite store ever ). I’m obsessed— [perfect for someone who’s constantly on the go. Also, Celestial Seasonings ( #TB, THEY CREATED SLEEPYTIME TEA!! ) just launched a new line of ready-to-drink chai tea lattes. So not only do they have this “Godfather” version, they also have a Mountain Chai, Dirty Chai, & Matcha Green. Oh &, if you’re into bagged teas instead of pre-made, they also have a dirty, coconut Thai, & mountain chai. MMMmmm. I’ll do a post on my favorite bedtime chai tea later this month ( I love to drink it in bed with 3 ingredient almond milk cookies…YUM ).

Can you tell I’m having a chai tea moment? LOL.

On to the next ingredient: the unsweetened coconut milk gives the skinny chai tea some healthy fat. Plus it thickens the mixture making it taste AMAZING.

Vanilla extract enhances the taste. Don’t over-do it. A little goes a long way. Plus it’s full of benefits: “natural vanilla extract contains numerous antioxidants, including vanillic acid and vanillin. Antioxidants protect your body from damage from harmful components, such as free radicals and toxins.” ( source )

Cinnamon is the perfect compliment to coffee ( especially since coffee can screw with blood sugar levels ). I know I talk about this every second but for those of you who haven’t heard me say this: cinnamon can slow the speed at which the stomach empties following a meal, which can help control sharp rises and falls in blood sugar levels. Softening these sugar spikes can theoretically reduce cravings.

Cardamom…this is a WHOLE, gnarly blog post but basically this spice kicks ASS. Some benefits: it detoxifies, contains antioxidants, & lowers blood pressure. LOVE it.

Turmeric should be a mandatory spice. Lately (especially since I had surgery & I’m so damn swollen) I’ve been using in it in my fresh juices, smoothies, soups, & in my coffee. It’s a total anti-inflammatory.

Lastly, cacao nibs…these add a kick to the chai tea & cacao is a total super food ( << it’s delicious on steel cut oatmeal too! ). The chocolatey flavored nibs help to destroy free radicals in your cells & tissue.

SO BASICALLY YOU’RE DRINKING A CHAI TEA WITH a million benefits. Forget those high school Starbucks runs, try this baby & enjoy every sip, guilt-free!

Also, if you want to get crazy, add some coconut or almond milk ice cubes.

Cheers! X

How to Be a Sexy Sickie

Lauryn Evarts, fitness blogger, health blogger, and diet blogger talks skinny tips and tricks for weight loss.

Annnnndddddd Pilates didn’t end up happening today.

Way, way too sick.

I’ve been a real nightime sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy-headed, fevered bitch.

But thanks to my babe + some TLC I’m feeling like I’m headed ( slowly ) towards recovery.

So. Since everyone & their dog, dad, sister, cousin, mom, friend, neighbor is currently sick, here’s some tips on how to get well ASAP…

How to Be a Sexy Sickie

1.} Tea (duh): chug it like it’s diamond water. I like Throat Coat, green tea, & Sleepytime Extra tea.

2.} Wash your freaking hands: isn’t it swell when someone comes to the gym/work/your house, sick? Oh & then they sneeze on their hand & extend it for a shake. Like, no thanks, I’d prefer not to grasp your sick-o, germ-infused, wet hand. Wash your hands peeps! Kill those germy little bitches ( love this all natural soap! ).

3.} Use a Neti Pot: haven’t heard of it? It’s absolutely, positively amazing. This little pot provides relief for any cold or allergy symptoms.

4.} Pillows: plump those babies up so the head is elevated. This alleviates pressure from the sinuses.

5.} Shower. Please. Just shower: don’t be lazy. Force your sick-ass out of bed. I swear, you will feel soooo much better. The hot water helps soothe any cold &/or sore throat. And the heat drains any gross mucus.

6.} Don’t reach for chemicals: I’m not a big pill popper. You know the type: “oh I have a headache so I’m going to take three Advil.” I like to try natural approaches before I shove pills down my throat. If you need some meds, try Cold-EEZE.

8.} Water: hydration is key. Water allows your bod to rid sickie toxins.

9.} Make your man do everything: being sick is a great time to make your significant other do everything. Kidding! Kind of.

10.} Relax: this is so F’ing hard for me. I’m always on the go, so laying in bed is as about as interesting as watching a fly on the wall. I’ve been reading a bunch of sexy autobiographies so the time’s flying by. US Weekly is a real lifesaver too. Sleep as much as you can. Getting some shut eye heals the body better than anything. ZZZzzz.

If you’re not sick, I’m jealous.

On that note, I’m off to bed.

I’m big on sleep. This doesn’t mean I’ll sleep-in till noon & waste the day away, but it’s definitely a priority to get those eight hours [ at least ] in. Sleep allows sore muscle to recover, heals the body, & provides energy. When you’re walking around like a dead zombie, you’re bound to reach for sugar-filled crap, sodas, and/or greasy foods to sustain the day. Also, lack of sleep slows the metabolism down [ eww!!- click here for more info ]. Studies show that if you snooze for five hours a night & decide to change it up to eight, you’ll drop some major lb’s. So go grab some Sleepytime Tea & hit the sack. ZZZZzzzzzzz.
