Last night we went out to a small, charming Italian restaurant. After looking over the entire menu I realized there was absolutely.positively.nothing.healthy. Like, mussels covered in butter & cream sauce just don’t do it for me.

Here’s where modification comes in handy.

Modification is my bestie. It changes the way I eat, the way I feel, & the way I look.

Instead of a Caesar, I ordered a mixed green salad with extra beets & greens. Then for an entrée a friend & I split a margherita flatbread. We modified it by adding arugula/avocado/black olives/lemon/jalapeños & asking for light cheese.

Hey, I’m aware. These six hundred requests are annoying to any waitress ( cue: heavy sighs & evil eyes ).

But you wanna know what’s more annoying? Having love handles hang over your J Brand skinnies.

So next time you’re on a dinner date, at a cocktail party, &/or dining a restaurant, don’t be afraid to make healthier requests. Substitute creamy dressing for red wine vinegar & lemon. Request a half an order of pasta instead of a whole. Or even order sushi wrapped in cucumber instead of brown rice.

Don’t Bother Making Any Healthy Resolutions You Can’t Keep!

Here’s a thought:

So. Just because it’s a new year doesn’t mean your dreams/wishes/wants are going to come out of thin air. ESP if you’re sitting on your ass.

Instead of making tons of resolutions & promises to yourself regarding fitness/health/diet goals, actually follow through with them.  Create a habit out of working out daily. Create a habit to fuel your bod with healthy, clean foods. Create a habit to drink water all day. Create a habit to be the healthiest, happiest version of yourself.

And soon those habits will be like brushing your teeth. Easy, peasy.

Don’t be that person next year that is blabbing about the same old, repetitive resolution. I beg, I beg.

I mean, honestly…don’t even make resolutions at all if you know you can’t keep it.

No one likes a flake. Cheers to following through!

This morning Nasoya’s Pasta Zero is hosting a Pinterest ‘pinning’ contest! They invited TSC to participate, sooooo if any of you babes are into the whole Pinterest thing, check it out & re-pin this all natural pasta recipe.

Pasta Zero’s pasta has twenty cals a serving [ forty a package {!!!} ], 4 carbs, & it’s fat free! Ummm…AND it tastes amaze.

I literally could eat it everyday.

Other low-cal additions: fresh pesto, lemon, chicken, resh grated Parmesan, veggies, pine nuts, ground turkey, mushrooms, &/or fresh bruschutta sauce [ here I used Rao's Arrabbiata Sauce ].

Pasta Zero + Spicy Tomato Goodness:

{ Serve 2 }

1 packet of Pasta Zero

1/2 cup of all natural Pomi tomato sauce

Finely chopped basil, to taste

Fresh grated Parmesan cheese

2 pinches of sea salt

Chili flake [ I add TONS; <3 super spicy! ]

A few shakes of pepper

1/2 lemon, juiced

Directions: Add tomato sauce to a pan on low-medium heat. Drain the noodles. The noodles are already cooked, so simply add the pasta & warm it up. Add to a bowl. Add basil, sea salt, & pepper. Squeeze the lemon on top. I also add some grated Parmesan cheese!

Hey Babes!

Hope you’re all finding some way to move your bod today {!!!}. If you’re not, at least walk the dog. Or drink a gallon of water. Try & do something healthy!

I woke up this AM, had an egg, cottage cheese, & some peach slices, went to Pilates, & drank tooooooonnnnns of water. How did you start your weekend? Hopefully not with a crappy food &/or a hangover ; )…

Sweat is fat crying. So let it cry, & cry, & cry some more.

Ignorance is Not Bliss: Get Real & Practice Portion Control

Oh, portion control…you’re such a little bitch! No one really wants to actually deal with you…

Unfortunately & fortunately, these charts tell it like it is. Because frankly, it’s not rocket science…

If you exhibit portion control at least 80% of the time, you’re in the clear. Here are some portion control tips I practice…

+ Use miso soup-sized bowls [ I live & die by these Antropologie cuties- they're seriously the perfect size for everything ]

+ Cake obsessed? I’m in la, la, love with this pre-portioned cake pan.

+ These little dimes are colorful, mini Tupperware containers to keep you from overeating…no brainer.

+ The Measure Up Bowl Set from Target provides exact measurements in an easy, chic way.

+ Sweet tooth tip: to size your frozen yogurt, ice cream, whatever, fill one cupcake liner with a kitchen scooper. Yeeeup. That’s a serving.

+ Because who doesn’t love pasta? This portion control pasta basket is genius.

Start with baby steps: instead of licking the plate clean tonight, practice portion control & moderation. Leaving some morsels of food on the plate is not going to kill you. In the long run, it will help you ; ).
