Pre-Cleanse Tips. Yes. You Actually Have to Prep for a Cleanse.

[ Just received my cleanse packet in the mail...getting excited : )! ]

Since we’re all ( right? ; ) ) completing the ‘New Year, New You Cleanse Challenge‘ next Tuesday, here are some preparation tips:

+ Coffee: I’m not going to be that bitch that tells you to go cold turkey on coffee five days pre-cleanse. But…would it kill you to cut back a bit? Three days before, slowly try to ween off coffee. A cup a day is fine. Ten cups, not so much.

+ Alcohol: I have a friend who drank a bottle of wine the day before she started cleansing ( LMFAO ). Needless to say, her detox didn’t exactly start off well. Chill out on the wine/liquor/beer three days prior to detoxing.

+ Sweat: start working out every day for a least a week before the cleanse. Why? Because why not?

+ Relax: don’t start the cleanse all frazzled & stressed out. Try to relax ( maybe take a sauna, do some yoga, or meditate ) a few days before.

+ Eat clean: this is so important. Let’s say that you’re dreading the fact that can’t eat any sugary, crappy foods during your juice cleanse, so you decide to stuff your face full of shit the day the day before. This is about as helpful as an asshole on your elbow. Instead eat fresh organic veggies, tofu, fruits, & proteins.

+ Cigs: buh-bye. They’re gross + they’ll do absolutely nothing if your ultimate goal is to rid toxins from your bod. Cut them out three days before the detox starts.

+ Buy herbal tea: have it on hand. I’m obsessed with Starbucks’ Trenta iced green tea ( w/ no sweetener ) + two splashes of passion. I drink this alllll day long while cleansing. Have some hot tea on hand too. A cup a day, five days before the you begin cleansing is helpful too.

+ Do your research: if you’re sick, pregnant, breast feeding, etc. check with a doctor before you begin.

The detox challenge begins in five days.

Examples of Protein Meals While Cleansing

After doing some research, I discovered that it is not necessary to eat all your protein at once. Let me explain: you juice every hour, for eight hours with lots of water & tea. Then at night you eat six ounces of protein with tons of veggies. My discovery: you can eat your six ounces whenever- so two ounces in the morning [ think a poached egg ] & then four ounces at night or three ounces in the AM & three ounces in the PM. Whatever works best for you ; ). This makes the entire cleanse easier!

These are some examples of proteins meals my friends & I have eaten during the cleanse: salad with lemon & olive oil + tuna fish, an egg quiche with large tomato slices + veggies, spaghetti squash w/ veg + a turkey burger [ no pictured ], and/or a poached egg on arugula.

Day 1 of the 3-Day Juice Cleanse Challenge

After return countless e-mails yesterday/last night/this morning/in the car/while working out/in bed, I have come to three conclusions:

1.) I am developing blisters from typing too much; I may need an e-mail hiatus.

2.) A lot of my readers are named Ashley or Stefanie.

3.) Through this juice cleanse challenge I am thrilled to discover how many of you are motivated towards living a healthy, happy life!

On a different note, so far today has been pretty easy. I have chugged water, drank tons of tea, & sipped my juice [ which I think tastes delicious...weird? ]. How are you guys feeling? I encourage you to comment below & share your Day 1 experience! As for my workout, I did an hour of Pilates.

Tonight I am having this:

Mike’s Super Low-Sodium Soup:

+ Serves four people

- Manishevitz Veggie mix
- 1 sautéed onions
- 1 1/2 cup of celery
- 1 1/2 cup of chopped carrots
- 1 chopped zucchini 
- 7 cups of organic, low-sodium chicken stock
- 1/3 chopped, fine
- 1/2 lemon

Use a large pot. Bring the broth & sautéed veg to a boil. Add dry Manishevitz  veggie mix. Simmer for one hour. Add the zucchini and the cabbage. Cook for an additional 30 minutes. Add seasoning mix that comes in the Manishevitz. Let sit until cool enough to eat. Add a squeeze of lemon. Total prep time: 2 hours.

For the protein part I am having a low-sodium, extra lean, plain turkey burger [ sans bun ]. What’s on your Day 1 menu tonight?

This morning I woke up with a skip in my step. You know one of those days when everything goes smoothly? I allowed myself to sleep-in [ sort-of ], was on time for once to Pilates, & the weather could not have been prettier. And now this delicious juice is fully energizing me. Surprising, the puckering sweet & sour flavor tastes exactly like fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Saint Patrick’s Day is around the corner, so I figured this green drink is entirely holiday-appropriate. It’s four simple ingredients- & when it’s juiced together, you’re guaranteed to fall in love. This Saturday you may or may not find me pouring vodka into this.
