Short Workouts With A Real Big Payoff

The busier I get, the less time I have to sweat.

I know, I know this sounds depressing but actually it’s been a blessing in disguise.

Why?

Because I’ve learned how to workout smart, in a shorter time frame ( think 25 to 30 minutes ) and I burn double the calories.

Say what?!

Basically I’m doing interval workouts all the time now.

Intervals get heart rate super high & then bring it back down throughout a workout. Remember when I did this post on running? Ok so, I’m doing that but on an Elliptical for thirty minutes three days a week. I wear a sexy, lil heart rate monitor & bring my heart rate up & down throughout the workout. BTW: 30 minute intervals is way more effective than steadily going on the Elliptical for an hour straight.

Also, with 30 minute intervals I’m burning calories hours after the workout.

The metabolism functions much better with intervals because it logs serious overtime after completing the workout.

Love!! I mean, right?!

The other three days a week I’m doing TSC workout plan ( which I’ll share in the next couple months ). These are 27-30 minute workouts that will kick your ass. Again, perfect for busy girls on the go. The workouts are good old fashioned squats, lunges, tricep dips with a Skinny Conf flare. Each day was put together in a meticulous way to help people ( & myself ) attain tone & lose fat as quick as possible.

This source states: “less time in the gym doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice fitness if you know this secret: Interval training. Research shows that interval training—workouts in which you alternate periods of high-intensity exercise with low-intensity recovery periods—increases fitness and burns more calories over a short period of time than steady-state cardio ( you know: just doing the same thing for your whole workout time ).”

Another source goes on to say “your body likes to be on cruise control, because that’s where it’s most gas efficient. But when you push on the gas pedal, as you do in intervals, your body becomes less efficient and has to burn more calories to do the activity. And these quick-but-killer efforts may be the closest thing you’ll find to a magic calorie-burning bullet. You not only log less sweat time ( which is kinder to your body ) but also continue to incinerate calories at an increased rate even during the walking or jogging recovery periods.”

An hour workout is awesome every once in a while…

BUT honestly? An hour in the gym five days a week just isn’t realistic ( for me, at least ).

Side: there’s a lot of fitness bloggers out there that are balls-to-the-walls freaking gnarls, man.

They eat, live, and breathe fitness.

That’s just not my style. To each its own though— if you’re in to that, cool, but you probably won’t like this blog!

My mentality is keep the workouts quick, effective, & accessible.

Anyway, I’m super excited to share TSC fitness program with you guys! I can’t wait!

In the meantime, cut the hour shit out. Go to the gym— push yourself to the limit in those 30 minutes. Get your heart rate up. Sweat. And then? GTF outta there!! You got a life to live!

If you’re spending more time at the gym than you do at home, stop! If you’re working out for hours a day, stop! If you think more is more, it’s not!

Keep it simple, stupid.

Welp, I’m pretty excited. I recently interviewed Cassey from Blogilates {!!!}. She’s created her thriving brand through her YouTube ( freeeeee!!! ) workouts, a sexy gym bag line, an award-winning blog, & her TV channel. Cassey is one productive/fit/motivated lady- I don’t know how she finds the time. Inspiration, much?

Anyway, even though her schedule is crazy she manages to make time to eat healthy & bust ass in the gym.

+ Hi Cassey! So excited to have you. Ok, so introduce yourself:

Cassey Ho: Hi my name is Cassey Ho & I am a fitness/Pilates instructor from San Francisco, California. I’m a YouTuber, creator of the format “POP Pilates,” & also a fitness blogger. Just recently my blog was named “Best Healthy Living Blog” by FITNESS Magazine! That was pretty cool. Oh! & I also design gym bags and yoga bags over for my own line of gear over at oGorgeous. Umm, ok, phew! I think this is why I don’t sleep.

+ Why Pilates?

CH: I was training for a pageant back when I was sixteen & wanted to tone up quickly. My goal was a nice, long, lean dancer-like look. So I tried Pilates & I’ve been hooked ever since!!!

CH: Basically I upload new workout videos a couple times a week on my Blogilates YouTube channel along with any fitness/health Q & A’s on Blogilates TV.

CH: Eat loads of vegetables & drink tons of water!

+ Weekly workout schedule?

CH: I workout five to six times a week for about an hour to an hour & a half, plus I do a mix of weight lifting, Pilates, & cardio! I am all into StairMaster right now because it builds my butt!

+ Favorite go-to healthy food?

CH: Mini grap tomatoes dipped in Trader Joe’s ‘Fat-Free Spicy Bean Dip.’ MMMM!

+ Motivation to stay in shape?

CH: Feeling strong & having tons of energy! I like powering through new projects like The Energizer Bunny so I need to workout & eat right to do that.

+ Best beauty product?

CH: Good sleep ( << I totally agree with Cassey on this one! ).

+ Natural beauty remedy?

CH: Skin glows from the inside, so I would say nourishing your body with lots of veggies & water helps you sparkle with confidence & really helps you to look your best.

+ A secret model tip for diet and health?

CH: Reduce your sodium intake if your prepping for a shoot or an event! It bloats you.

+ Example of a day’s worth of eating?

CH: Breakfast: oatmeal, egg whites, & a banana.

Snack: almonds & some fruit.

Lunch: spinach salad with salmon, cranberries, grape tomatoes, avocado, & balsamic vinegar.

Snack: plain nonfat greek yogurt with raw sunflower seeds & raspberries.

Dinner: steamed brussel sprouts with chicken breast smothered in ‘Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce‘ & some soy sauce, side of tomato or black bean soup.

+ Quick, super easy recipe:

CHBanana pancakes! 1 banana + 2 eggs. Mash it up and place the batter on a skillet. Bam. You have pancakes!

Ummmm….hello three ingredient cookie!

Just because it’s Thanksgiving doesn’t mean you have to shove your face full of shit.

Be smart.

Instead of feeling like beached whale after your linner [ lunch + dinner ],  try these cookies. They’re seriously the easiest little dimes on the planet + they’re delicious/healthy.

Need I say more?

Didn’t think so.

Grab some berries, oats, & two bananas and get your bake on.

Three Ingredient Cookies

[ Recipe adapted from Blogilates ]

2 cups quick oats

2 bananas

1 handful of berries [ My pref: cranberries to keep it festive ]

+ Directions: pre-heat over to 350 F. mash together all of the ingredient in a bowl [ I used my hands; I know, ghetto, but it got the job done ]. Use a non-stick cookie sheet, roll your cookie dough into balls, & add to sheet. Throw these babies in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Voilà!

Workout for Free: Now You Really Don’t Have an Excuse {!!!}

An excuse I hear wayyyyyyy too often: “I can’t afford a gym membership, so it’s difficult to motivate myself.”

Welp, welp, welp, no problemo. Here’s a super easy fix:

Utilize YouTube. Oh? You think it’s embarrassing/stupid/weird to jump around you room, sweating everywhere, while you workout in front of a computer screen?

Think of it like this: at least you’re not sitting around complaining about a problem. You’re creating a situation.

+ Blogilates: love Casey Ho. She’s relatable, cute, & makes working out fun. Also, I’m absolutely obsessed with Pilates!

+ Jenny Ford Fitness: this girl’s channel has everything from Zumba to step aerobics. Fun stuff.

+ Tone it UpKarena & Katrina are two gorg girls who make working out fun. They workout all my favorite area to tone: the butt, abs, & thighs. LOVE.LOVE.LOVE!

Ok. So quick ques: I’ve been thinking about creating a Skinny Confidential YouTube channel. Hmmm…not gonna lie, I’m kind of nervous -_- !!

Ummm…Seriously Dying!! Two Ingredient Pancakes…Gluten Free, Flourless, & Full of Protein

Are you kidding me?! This recipe is ridiculous. A real LOL-er, right? Like, I’m never.ever.ever. making real pancakes again.

Lately this mashed banana + egg recipe has been blowing up the fitness/health blogs [ one lovely reader also recommended this to me + Blogilates + The Fitness Dish ]. For shits & giggles, I added my own touches: a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice, some ground flaxseed, a bit of vanilla, & a dash of cinnamon. But honestly, just the two measly ingredients of bananas & egg are perfection.

Ok. Let’s talk syrup. Buying low-sugar syrup does not equal healthy. In fact, filling your bod with fake sugars is bloating, makes you crave/eat more, & is full of disgusting, sick-o chemicals. If you love syrup on silver dollllllas, choose all-natural maple syrup & use it sparingly. Drenching them until they’re wilted is gross. I mean, is it necessary to have a side of pancakes with your syrup? Nope! Use a little & move on.

  The Skinny, Skinny Pancake

 { Serves 2-3 }

 1 mashed, super ripe banana

2 eggs

Coconut oil for the pan

My additions: a bit of pumpkin pie spice, 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed [ this really, really holds the mixture together ], a bit of vanilla, & a dash of cinnamon.

Optional: all-natural maple syrup + berries

+ Directions: mash your banana with a fork. In another bowl whisk eggs. Mix eggs & banana together. Add my additions. Put the coconut oil in the pan [ on low-medium heat ]. Add a silver dollar-sized amount to the pan. Let the cake set for thirty seconds [ or when the center bubbles ] & flip it! Enjoy with berries & a bit of syrup. Option: if you’re pressed for time use a blender to mix your ingredients.
