‘Tis the season of weddings.

But really though.

I feel like these last couple months have had a total wedding theme!!

This weekend I went to a wedding with my other boyfriend ( kidding! ) AKA my bestie, Steve— see:

The Skinny Confidential talks diet and fitness.
And it got me thinking: is it weird I haven’t planned one.damn.thing for my own wedding?

Yikes.

I mean, let’s face it: if I was a Barbie, I’d be Procrastinator Barbie. ESP when it has to do with wedding planning.

Honestly, I just want to enjoy “being.”

Being happy.

Being in love.

Being engaged.

But actually ENJOY our engagement. Really savor it. Ya know?

Who says you have to rush right into wedding planning anyway?!

Anyone with me? If you’re married or engaged, what’s your take? Tell, tell.

Being engaged indeed is a very special time. I love being married too (if anyone had let me know how good it feels would have done it sooner!!) but being engaged is the best!

Being engaged is an amazing time in someone’s life. I have been with my fiance for 4 and 1/2 years and we got engaged in February of this year. We both mutually decided we wanted to wait and enjoy this time in our life. We have planned our wedding for next July. This gives us time to enjoy a huge chapter in our lives, but also look forward to our future wedding. + you only get this time in your life once, once your married you don’t go back to being engaged so savor it girl!

a long engagement is totally the way to go! my fiance and I were engaged for almost a year and a half (engaged april ’11 and married in october ’12) and it couldn’t have been better. it really gives you time to settle in and enjoy EACH OTHER and not feel rushed planning the wedding! take your time, have a binder to organize your wedding planning life (i did, and it’s probably now one of my most treasured possessions because of the memories it holds), and most of all, just soak it up! you only do this once! xoxo

we enjoyed being engaged for quite a while about 4 months of just chillin and soaking it in! then suddenly we looked at each other after being asked questions a million times by a million people and said, okay I think we’re supposed to do something now haha!

get a planner. it will pay you back X a billion. worth every single penny because she got us huge discounts on all our amazing vendors who she works with regularly! I am one of those stresser outer worriers and I needed some hand-holding and guidance. because of our planner, we actually loved our whole planning experience!

I have lots of wedding wednesday posts on my blog if you wanna check em out!

It really depends on when you do start planning how long you are willing to wait from there.

Some wedding venues, photographers, and videographers will get booked up a year or two in advance (I know, crazy!). I’m from New York, I started planning my wedding almost 20 months in advance and I was ALREADY shut out from certain higher demand dates that I wanted with some venues and photographers.

I would start doing fun research for venues and if you fall in love with one, book it for say, 12 to 24 months from now (if you want a long engagement) and then let the other pieces of the puzzle fit in slowly.

Wedding planning is stressful if you don’t have a lot of help so I totally am with you on the “just enjoy being engaged” for a little bit.

    Good luck!!

I’m not engaged but I’ve been in a relationship for a few years and I’m pretty confident I’d want a looooong engagement otherwise I’d get too much anxiety over planning.

We’ve been engaged since January, and although we have the venue and photographer, that’s about it!!! We’ve been loving just “being”, and whenever I do feel like I’m not doing enough, he reminds me it’ll all come together, that this shouldn’t be a stressful time, but a blissful one. So very true.

ENJOY being engaged! Zac and I got in engaged and planned our wedding in 7 months. Our wedding was amazing but I wish I would have enjoyed the “being” (as you put it) Instead I felt like everything was rushed and we didn’t do certain things because we were running out of time. Enjoy every second of it, you only get to do it once.

The “engagement period” is a special time that does not last, so why rush it? Savor it. Then savor the planning of the wedding!

Congrats on your bloglovin award nomination- so excited! I’ll be sure to head over and vote! I don’t think there’s any need to rush into wedding planning. So many people spend so much time rushing into wedding plans they don’t enjoy their engagement :) Xo, D

I recently got engaged as well and I have done NOTHING in the planning department. I too am just enjoying being engaged. The only issue I am having problems with is everyone’s questions!!! What is the date? What colors are you going with? Where is it? Have you found a dress??????????
But weddings are exciting and inquiring minds want the deets… so I get it.

Enjoy the engagement Lauryn! My husband and I were engaged for 2yrs before getting married, which allowed us time to save money (for the wedding and honeymoon), and plan things slowly and have everything exactly as we wanted, and not be rushed. It was the best way of doing it! You’ll also likely find that nothing will change in your relationship once you go from being engaged to husband and wife… everything is still awesome, you just have an official piece of paper! Ha!

    Congratulations again!

I got engaged on Easter, and the only question we get is “When’s the wedding?” It’s like I have no idea! I am busy with my clients and my business and being engaged just feels so lovely, what’s the rush? I am all for anti tradition when it comes to the subject of “weddings” do what you want and on your time. Who the hell cares ‘when’s the date’ :) Engaged life is sweet enough for now!

I’m not engaged, but I have visions of when my boyfriend of 6 years and I would get married. Personally, I would love to go on a beach vacation just the two of us and get married without telling anyone, come back home, and surprise our families. While I absolutely adore weddings, I’d rather it be super low key for myself. <3

I’m not engaged (yet!) but I do always feel kinda bad for girls that announce they’re engaged and then are immediately asked “when’s the wedding?” like, c’mon! I’m all for just savouring that time first before getting into all the crazy wedding planning.

I’m getting married in less than 2 months with a wedding guest list of 18. Literally. Yet, even as small as it is, it’s still kind of a pain. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy finding inspiration for my wedding, but it’s SUCH a long process. Especially communicating via email!! You ask a question, they never answer, or answer 5 days later, or forward their response to your wedding planner instead. Grrrr. It’s fun too though! But I know I don’t have it as hard as other ladies who have LARGE families…plus I’ve been engaged for 2.5 years so we had plenty of time to relax and just enjoy it. So take the time you need! Don’t feel pressured, and just take it all in stride. Oh! And breathe!! xo

I just got married on 5.31.14 and we had been engaged for over 2 years (he proposed 3.26.2012). Not only did we have the most perfect wedding (all of our family and friends keep telling us it was the BEST WEDDING EVER!) but we enjoyed every second of the process. I say do what I did….and totally soak up every minute being the bride-to-be, enjoy the planning, the PARTIES, because it goes by so fast. The longer engagement you have the more time you have to make it the most wonderful wedding ever. Don’t let it turn into a job, plan like it’s the BIGGEST BADDEST PARTY of your life!
