[ Mummy hot dogs: 5 grams of fat...as opposed to a beef hot dog with 16 grams of fat ]
Today will be my last Halloween post; it’s time to hone in on Thanksgiving [ so excited ]! I made these turkey weenies on a sunny day while everyone was relaxing & craving Sunday comfort food. Typically, beef hot dogs are filled with awful ingredients that do not digest well [ they're filled with nitrates and nitrites- yuck ]. These Trader Joe’s all natural uncured turkey dogs wrapped in reduced fat Pillsbury dough are a healthier choice with a fun twist.

I wore my Halloween costume [ which was belly-bearing- I was an Indian chief ] out Friday night to attend a concert. I knew I would be drinking & wanted to reduce the chances of bloat. This smoothie was created primarily for that reason. Spinach aids in reducing puffiness, orange juice has potassium which flushes out the system & blueberries are full of antioxidants. The flat belly smoothie hardly took any time at all & luckily the blueberries & Greek 0% yogurt camouflage the spinach taste [ I promise! ].

Recently I read a magazine article that claimed to “reduce your chances of getting spooked by the scale.” I decided to recreate it but display my Halloween picks that are low sugar & under 150 calories. These treats still allow participation in the age-old tradition of consuming mass amounts of delicious candy. My favorite? The watermelon Dum Dum Pops [ I also love the dark chocolate peanut M&M's ].

I have happy childhood memories of going to the pumpkin patch in search of the plumpest pumpkin. This year was no different. I picked out a white pumpkin that was definitely not skinny! Michael chose a small multi-colored pumpkin & Pixy was gifted with the medium one [ which was later carved into her paw print with a giant dewclaw ]. My main motive for carving pumpkins this year was to collect the seeds.
After we extracted the the throw-up looking, orange crap inside, I separated the slippery seeds & baked them to perfection with pumpkin pie spice [ allspice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, & ground cloves ] + a sprinkle of sea salt. And hey! This is a smart snack: they’re filled with fiber, zinc, & contain FIVE grams of protein! Happy Halloween babes!
The smell, taste and look of pumpkins represent autumn. I love adhering to seasonal recipes, so these particular low calorie pumpkin muffins [ about 90 calories a muffin ] were a delicious portrayal of fall. I made these over the weekend for my neighbors and friends with many requests for ‘seconds’. These spider muffins came out warm, tender not too sweet. They also were the perfect complement to my cup of nightly green tea.
